Metamorphosis’ First Summer Collection Is Out!

Do you like 50s inspired clothes? prints? quirky outfits? I do!

I mentioned weeks ago that I began working on creating my own line of clothes and it’s here! Actually, it’s been live for more than a month now, I only found the time to share it here today. I have to improve my marketing skills, I know. HA! In the meantime, here is my first 8-piece collection, which I shot and styled myself using Chad’s Canon AE-1 film camera with my lovely model Tiana Cruz:

Audrey skirt 500

Hailey skirt 450

Raina skirt 500

Twiggy skirt 500

When I designed these clothes, I thought of Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy in the 60s. That’s why I named some of the pieces in the collection after them. The 50s and 60s are the two decades that broke fashion traditions, especially the latter. New and unconventional styles also emerged. Color was everywhere!

Metamorphosis is a very meaningful word to me. When I was a kid I relied on second-hand clothes from my cousins. My clothes were often old, ill-fitting and out-phased so I grew up with low self-esteem. But I used that as motivation to strive harder and to dream. My personal style changed. I now know what looks good on me (and on others too). I metamorphosed from a scrawny baduy girl to a lady who is now aware of fashion.

I like wearing clothes that exude happiness and love, which is why I chose wonderful prints and lively colors for my first collection. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do! You can view more photos on Facebook here, and I would really appreciate it if you’d like the page too. 🙂

Stepping Into the Light: May 2013 Work and Features

It’s been a while since I last blogged, if we exclude the giveaway posts. I don’t even consider them blog posts. I know you must be tired of me apologizing for the lack of posts, so I won’t (it doesn’t mean though that I’m unapologetic). I had lots of personal issues that needed immediate attention, and I’m not even done dealing with yet. I needed to get out of that situation, even for just a little while, that’s why I’ve come back. There’s nothing much happening in my life this month, but the previous one though was one heck of an emotional ride.

Chad went back to the USA, so we’re back to Skype dates. But before he left, the magazine jobs we did came out as well as some blogger features. I’m reserving the work we did for CLAVEL magazine for next week’s blog post though, as I still have to procure a copy.

Lydali Fashion+Travel Blogger Feature

feature1

In April, Lydali, a retail brand from San Francisco California, stumbled upon one of our travel videos and interviewed me for their blog. You can check out the full interview here. I talked about my country, the Philippines, and its wonderful places. I’m going to Corregidor Island this year and I’m looking for a travel buddy. If you wanna join me, email me and let’s talk. Hihi 🙂

MadhouseMNL May 2013 Film Issue

feature2

As you know, Chad and I were regular contributors for the online magazine, MadhouseMNL. MadhouseMNL is composed of (very) young individuals who share their passion for the arts through the online magazine. They released the film issue last month in which we shot our friend Marthe Olsen wearing Trunk Show Manila in legit film. Check out the full editorial here.

DDG Magazine Travel+Fashion Article

feature4

Here’s what I’m really proud of. This is a travel+fashion article that Chad and I produced for DDG Magazine‘s April-May issue. Chad wrote the travel part while I wrote the style tips. Chad is a really good writer, while I am not really confident about mine. I let Chad review what I wrote before we submitted it for publishing, and he liked it. I was so happy. 🙂 We shot 5 layouts in two hours for this issue, it was very exhausting but totally worth it. Grab a copy of DDG Magazine April-May issue guys! National Bookstore branches have it, I’m sure.

DDG Magazine Blogger Feature

feature3

And last but definitely not the least is our blogger feature for the same magazine. They know we’re bloggers as well so they featured us. Yay! Just seeing my photo placed side by side with the love of my life makes me happy. 🙂

So that’s what kept me busy the past months. ‘Will post more about our magazine work next week! 🙂

Profound Escape

Hello everyone! Below are some of the photos which made it to Madhouse Manila magazine’s vintage December issue. I styled 3 layouts, inspired by the medieval peasant life with hints of modern trends, of course. I teamed up with Chad (the photographer), Hennie Fortuin (the model), and Ms. Elle Lubigan (the hair and make-up artist). Chad used his Canon ae-1 film camera with a Kodak ColorPlus film.

Supposedly, the first layout is about a farmer’s daughter who is young, playful, and carefree—hence the flowers, braids, and lace—but we kind of forgot about that so we ended up with these shots. I like the first photo because it reminds me of a child who is hopeful of the future, plus the light on Hennie’s face is just gorgeous.

The second set represents the transition of the peasant’s child from innocence to maturity, that stage where children are introduced by their parents or by circumstance to the realities of life. So, I chose a a dark and checkered ensemble with a lace collar to add youth. Browns and maroons always remind me of farms.

The last, but certainly not the least, set is my absolute favorite—not just because the Anne Boleyn hairdo suited the model nicely, but also because all the elements meshed together. I only came up with this look during the last minute, as I wasn’t quite sure if the heavy skirt will complement the printed top. And it did! The Scandinavian cross matched the top too! It was actually Chad’s idea to buy and use the cross. I love the fact that he knows a lot about history and whatnot. 😛

This set represents a full-grown woman, who has been forced by unfortunate events to take care of her family. Innocence is now lost. However, I don’t really consider this as a sad ending to such a story. I’d like to call it ‘bravery’, instead. I deeply admire people who are driven, tough, and mature. A lot of us today do not like taking responsibilities, and people who do deserve so much respect.

So there you go. We really hope you liked the sets. Please check out Madhouse MNL, and you can find us on pages 137 to 149. Special thanks to ForMe clothing for providing the floral jacket and printed long-sleeves.

Also, I told you last week that Chad and I went to this Vinyl Dump store in Cubao Expo to interview Joel Devicais, the owner. Chad wrote an article about it and took photos too. Read about it on pages 108 to 111.

And apparently, Madhouse MNL decided to include the Feral Child pictures which I previously shared here. You can also see them in pages 128 to 135.

Thanks to everyone who supported us! Watch out for another Chad & Daphne collaboration! 😛

Be Confident by Anya Sarre

Shoes, apparel, and accessories should make us feel good about ourselves and should be an expression of our inner beauty. It can be very frustrating when we are looking for an outfit for a special event and end up getting that awkward feeling in the dressing room because of the way something fits or looks.  Fret no more—even celebrities need confidence boosters, which help their glow for all to see! There are many steps you can take to avoid this situation leading to a boost in self-confidence and more happy occasions!

Shop Your Favorite but Dare to Try New Things

Of course we all fall into our comfort zones, but don’t fall victim to the ease of your systematic routine. Try something new—new colors, new prints, new textures, new style. There is a way for everyone to pull off the hottest summer red carpet styles with their own sense of style and flair! Let your inner fashionista shine brighter than the sun and leave others admiring your style.

Try Out Body Conscious Trends

Fashion should make you exude your confidence. Body-conscious dresses and bandage skirts have been a big trend in the recent seasons because they seem to favor any body type, height, and size. Maxi dresses and pastel colored skinny jeans also seem to look good on everyone. Silk and chiffon blouses are a practical and versatile staple that will flatter any figure. Pair a striped maxi, with vintage accent jewelry and a pair of sunshades to look cool, calm, and glamorous this summer.

Wear the Right Shoes

Shoes make a huge difference on how the outfit looks on you. If you think that reflection in the mirror is unattractive, it might be because you are wearing a cocktail dress with shoes meant for the beach. Wear some trendy wedges or take your night out heels on shopping trips so you can get a glimpse of what your outfit will really look like. Let your inner fashionista shine and fall into your own chic style!
