Overcast

I’ve been thinking a lot lately, about the things I wanted to happen in my life, my future. I used to think I had everything figured out; I even have a 10-year plan that I made when I was 21. I was on track for the first 3 years, but I kinda lost my way when I was nearing my 24th birthday. You know what they always say about people in their twenties—they are meant to be lost. And that holds true for me.

lookbook

I guess that’s what happens when you experience, when you go out there. The future seems bright as day, but you’re thrown out in the jungle and suddenly you realize…you don’t know a thing. Scary, yes, but there lies the adventure. If this happened to me when I was fresh out of college, I would have freaked out. Now, I may be confused but I’m not afraid. I’ve learned to accept spontaneity in life—we can only control things so much, we must also learn how to go with the flow. I know these challenges I’m experiencing right now will only show me a clearer picture of myself.

And speaking of pictures, this entry is titled Overcast because the pictures are taken on an overcast day (duh). I’ve been utterly frustrated with Manila’s recent weather—everytime I wanted to shoot, the rain decides to come pouring down.

I’m practically a novice when it comes to shooting with film cameras, but since I’ve used Chad’s Canon AE-1 a number of times on timer mode in the same location (my terrace, lol), I thought the pictures will turn out okay. But I was wrong, so I had to think of ways to “repair” them. These are the only ones I managed to save from the set. Oh well, charge it to experience.

Project: Headshot

Months ago, Chad taught me how to use his film camera. I thought of putting my recent ‘learning’ to good use, so I decided to make this project. I used our Canon AE-1 camera and Solid Gold ISO 200 film in natural light. I don’t have much equipment with me except the camera and tripod. Someday, I’ll have lights and what not, you can bet on that.

Tiana

Tiana, as you all know, modeled my first ever collection. I really love the contours of her face so I decided to photograph her again. Unfortunately, by the time I finished fixing Tiana up (I did her make-up as well), it began to rain. I got really scared we won’t be able to take single shot, but thank heavens our location had a roof. I’m really happy with how the photos came out.

Zel and I knew each other from Meg Magazine Face Search. She’s done a lot of commercials so you’ve probably seen her on TV. It was really hot when we shot these and we were in quite a hurry so I wasn’t able to fix my camera settings (let’s just pretend I know how to set my camera :P). I need to learn how to do that.

So that’s my first legit photography project. More photos to come, I hope. I’m constantly looking for fresh faces for this project, message me if you want to work together!

Metamorphosis’ First Summer Collection Is Out!

Do you like 50s inspired clothes? prints? quirky outfits? I do!

I mentioned weeks ago that I began working on creating my own line of clothes and it’s here! Actually, it’s been live for more than a month now, I only found the time to share it here today. I have to improve my marketing skills, I know. HA! In the meantime, here is my first 8-piece collection, which I shot and styled myself using Chad’s Canon AE-1 film camera with my lovely model Tiana Cruz:

Audrey skirt 500

Hailey skirt 450

Raina skirt 500

Twiggy skirt 500

When I designed these clothes, I thought of Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy in the 60s. That’s why I named some of the pieces in the collection after them. The 50s and 60s are the two decades that broke fashion traditions, especially the latter. New and unconventional styles also emerged. Color was everywhere!

Metamorphosis is a very meaningful word to me. When I was a kid I relied on second-hand clothes from my cousins. My clothes were often old, ill-fitting and out-phased so I grew up with low self-esteem. But I used that as motivation to strive harder and to dream. My personal style changed. I now know what looks good on me (and on others too). I metamorphosed from a scrawny baduy girl to a lady who is now aware of fashion.

I like wearing clothes that exude happiness and love, which is why I chose wonderful prints and lively colors for my first collection. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do! You can view more photos on Facebook here, and I would really appreciate it if you’d like the page too. 🙂

Travel Post: Vigan

Two months ago, Chad and I traveled to north of the Philippines to check out Vigan. Chad had been to the place but I haven’t before. I only knew about Vigan in textbooks in school and as my family could not afford to travel anywhere, except my parents’ hometowns which are just an hour away from Naga, I promised myself that I will visit Vigan when I’m capable of traveling.

I have a certain fascination for ancient things, and Vigan suits that interest of mine. Although I was a bit disappointed that only one street, Calle Crisologo, preserved the Spanish colonial houses and architecture, the whole experience was still amazing. I am after all with the love of my life, everywhere with him is paradise. CHOS! [On an unrelated note, I think I should shift to love + personal blogging because I keep talking about my boyfriend. I hope it doesn’t annoy you (heh). I can’t help it, so please bear with me. 😛 ]

After a 9-hour ride to Vigan via Viron Transit, we checked in RF Aniceto Mansion.

Aside from offering the best accommodation package (1500php per night = breakfast + airconditioned room + private hot/cold bath + cable tv + clean and comfortable room), the place has a gorgeous interior. And if you’re a vintage junkie like me, you’d absolutely love Aniceto.

Chad photobombing. He always does that when I take photos. 🙂

Our room. Nice right?

Aside from checking out Calle Crisologo and the restaurants along it (pictures of which can be found here), we also went to Baluarte, a large park owned by Ilocos Sur’s incumbent governor, Chavit Singson.

88920027

The place has a lot of animals–from donkeys, parrots, deers, to tigers. I don’t really know what to feel when we got there. I don’t like it when animals are used for humans’ amusement. I feel so sorry for the donkey that carried us quite honestly, I kept on talking to the poor thing after he gave us a tour of the field. 🙁

Had some photos taken with this gorgeous parrot, too. The owners won’t ask for payment but they will certainly ask for a small donation after they’ve let the bird rest on your shoulders.

88920022

Chad decided to climb this big rock while on our way to see the famous pets of the governor.

88920018

I saw about six of these cuties. I kept calling them kitty in this video because they look so cuddly and cute, like domestic cats. They must be extremely bored and sad; these animals should be in the wild with their own kind, not in cages.

We also went to see Playa de Oro beach, which is only 10 minutes away from the city. Our travels are incomplete without the beach, you see. The place is very underdeveloped, which is good in my opinion. I saw some trash lying around near the shore though. 🙁 And I think promoting it for tourism will only hurt it.

Chad left for the States a couple of days ago. I’m sad to be honest with you, which kind of explains why I’ve not been posting anything for the past weeks. I’ve been with him almost everyday during his 8-month stay in the country, but I guess every good thing has an end. It’s just temporary in our case, though. We’ll see each other in a year or two. We’ve done this long-distance relationship thing before. We survived it, and I see no reason for it not to work this time.

Junkie

Hello everyone! It’s February and I’m celebrating it with a blog post. I love this month because people seem happier and more in love during this time of the year. I was a little bit sad during last year’s February because my boyfriend was in another continent, but I’m feeling great this time around because he’s here in the country. I’m quite excited for our Valentine activities, although I know it won’t be much different from our daily activities since we always have fun every time we’re together.

10020012

That has always been our mindset since we started dating. We’re no ordinary couple—he lives in the States while I stay in the Philippines. When you’re not always together 365 days a year, you tend to make the most out of every second you have together. We never argue; we respect each other’s opinions. We do misunderstand each other sometimes, but we come to a resolution right away. We communicate and talk a lot and I think that what makes our relationship special, aside from our common interests.

10020019

And speaking of common interests, we tried a new roll of film today–Kodak Pro Image. As you know, we’ve been using film in my posts. We tried Solid Gold ISO 200 and recently Kodak Gold. I love both of films but without the right light, photos can look muddy and murky sometimes. Kodak Pro Image, however, is a stunner. Colors are more alive; the sun was setting when we took these photos using Chad’s Canon AE-1 film camera but photos looked like they were taken while the sun was high. You’ll definitely see a lot of Kodak Pro Image film in this blog. So if you’re an analog junkie like us, visit my blog and Chad‘s often. 😛
