Oblivion

Growing up in a home with no internet access, I only got to know music through local radio and TV stations and for a time I thought the songs those channels featured were the only music genres that existed. I got stuck with ‘mainstream’ music until college, and would easily get bored with it. I remember complaining that ‘popular’ songs always have the same themesβ€”love, money, sex, and drugs.

I was in desperate need of a new sound that has more depth, but I unfortunately didn’t have the means. A few years after college, however, I was introduced to other genres of music through Chad. He’s an audiophile and has been listening to different kinds of music since he was young. I got to know trip-hop, ska, electronic, indie, trance, etc. My current favorite is dream pop, a sub-genre of pop rock and alternative rock, which originated in the United Kingdom.

Dream pop tends to focus on textures and moods rather than propulsive rock riffs. Vocals are generally breathy or sung in a near-whisper, and lyrics are often introspective or existential in nature. (source) You see, music is not just limited to the proverbial LMSD.

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia!

LOL I look preggers in this pic, but I’m not. Haha. Must be because of the movement. So, I’m leaving you with my favorite dream pop artist Grimes. She’s a bit weird but amusing at the same time. Hope you like it!
