Be Confident by Anya Sarre

Shoes, apparel, and accessories should make us feel good about ourselves and should be an expression of our inner beauty. It can be very frustrating when we are looking for an outfit for a special event and end up getting that awkward feeling in the dressing room because of the way something fits or looks.  Fret no more—even celebrities need confidence boosters, which help their glow for all to see! There are many steps you can take to avoid this situation leading to a boost in self-confidence and more happy occasions!

Shop Your Favorite but Dare to Try New Things

Of course we all fall into our comfort zones, but don’t fall victim to the ease of your systematic routine. Try something new—new colors, new prints, new textures, new style. There is a way for everyone to pull off the hottest summer red carpet styles with their own sense of style and flair! Let your inner fashionista shine brighter than the sun and leave others admiring your style.

Try Out Body Conscious Trends

Fashion should make you exude your confidence. Body-conscious dresses and bandage skirts have been a big trend in the recent seasons because they seem to favor any body type, height, and size. Maxi dresses and pastel colored skinny jeans also seem to look good on everyone. Silk and chiffon blouses are a practical and versatile staple that will flatter any figure. Pair a striped maxi, with vintage accent jewelry and a pair of sunshades to look cool, calm, and glamorous this summer.

Wear the Right Shoes

Shoes make a huge difference on how the outfit looks on you. If you think that reflection in the mirror is unattractive, it might be because you are wearing a cocktail dress with shoes meant for the beach. Wear some trendy wedges or take your night out heels on shopping trips so you can get a glimpse of what your outfit will really look like. Let your inner fashionista shine and fall into your own chic style!

Spice Up Your Life: Spice Girls Olympic Performance

6:00 AM Philippine time is officially the highlight of my month. Spice Girls, the 1990s girl group who made ‘Girl Power’ possible, performed during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic games in London. I seriously didn’t sleep just to see them again and it was all worth it. I loved them when I was a child (I wanted to be Baby Spice aka Emma Bunton) and you could imagine my excitement when I saw them again, all five of them, since they disbanded around a decade ago. Below are some highlights of the performance:

Posh, Ginger, Baby, Sporty, and Scary werrrking it! Yes, they absolutely still got it; they look better than ever!

Melanie Chisholm or Mel C, in all her sporty glory (pun definitely intended), wears JD Sports. Performance level pa rin! She has always been the best performer (and singer) in the group.

And Melanie Brown (Mel B/Scary Spice) looking feisty in a Zuhair Murad bodysuit. She was the queen of catsuits back in the day so this is just perfect!

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, wearing Giles Deacon. It’s nice to see her have fun again! I wish I’ll look as hot as that when I’m 38.

Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, wearing Suzanne Neville. Her Union Jack dress got an upgrade. Fabulous!

My favorite, Emma Bunton also Baby Spice, wearing Maggie Cooke. She still looks lovely and adorable. Talk about aging gracefully! She’s 36. 🙂

This was the Spice Girls during the 1997 BRIT Awards, where Ginger made headlines with her Union Jack dress, making it one of the most iconic moments in pop culture. Later on, the Union Jack was seen in every clothing piece.

Here’s a video of their whole performance during the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony:

And their  awesome Pepsi commercial in 1996. Remember when those shoes were the fad? I was heartbroken when my mom couldn’t buy a pair for me. Haha

NIVEA Face Affair (Words & Photos)

You must have read in my previous post that I won NIVEA Philippines’ Face Affair contest last year. Thousands of girls submitted their entries online to NIVEA, with the hopes of becoming the Nivea girl. Who would have known that a small town girl like me would be picked? Bicolanas represent! 😛

My housemate and I took this photo in our room using my GE digital camera. I didn’t go for the usual posy photo. I thought, since NIVEA carries skin care products, the photo should show the product. I’m a big fan of beauty shots, so I opted for a tube top and a barely-there make up. I’m only wearing baby powder in this photo, some lip gloss, and eyeliner. The important thing is I’m able to present the product well.

As part of becoming the Nivea girl, I won over 14k worth of NIVEA products. If I have kept these for myself, I would have had a year’s supply of skin care products. But I didn’t. As long as I have a facial wash, toner, moisturizer, and hydrating lotion, I’m good. So where did the rest go? To my loved ones, where they should rightfully be.

I also got 15k worth of Forever 21 gift certificates and 6k worth of Majolica Majorca make up. I’m a happy girl indeed.

Part of my prize is a makeover and a photo shoot. Dominique Tiu styled me; Marj Sia did the make up; Val Chua fixed my hair; Crissey Si provided skin care tips; and Shai Lagarde gave points on confidence and personal development.

Pioneer Studio, the location, has lots of interesting decorations. I was particularly interested with these B/W photographs of what look like women from tribes.

Photograb: With Marj Sia, the makeup artist. She has amazing hands, I tell you!

Took a photo after wearing the items that Dominique Tiu personally hand-picked for me.

With my favorite blogger/graphic designer, Crissey. I only became fully acquainted with fashion blogging around 2010, I kid you not. And her blog and Tricia Gosingtian’s were the first ones I discovered. I followed them since then, and their blogs became my daily newspaper. So you could imagine my excitement when I found out I won and that I’ll be meeting her. <3 Thank you, Miro for the photo. I owe you big time.

And so the finished product has arrived. The Face Affair was just recently published in Chalk Magazine June 2012 issue, with the pogi Zac Efron on the cover:

And on the Chalk Bulletin’s bottom half, you’ll find my big face, with the wonderful bloggers who helped me look good that day.  I’m forever grateful to them. They, as well as the people from NIVEA (esp. Mikki Galang), have made my year unforgettable.

For a girl like me who grew up in Naga, a small city in the Camarines Sur province, seeing one’s own face in a national magazine is priceless. I was only a collector of teen magazines before, and everytime I buy an issue, I always wished to be in its pages. So I included it in my life goals, and now it’s here. It’s always great to dream and create goals–they motivate you, and drive you to achieve things you’re not even aware you can achieve.

Lastly, thanks to those who have supported and congratulated me. It’s not really a big ad, but your support definitely made me feel like I’m a supermodel. Haha. Thanks, guys! <3

Videos will be released online soon. Like NIVEA Philippines’ Facebook page and click the Face Affair tab to know and see more about the event.

SPOTLIGHT: Allison Harvard

I’ve been an avid fan of America’s Next Top Model since its first cycle, but I have not fangirl-ed over the contestants as much as I did with Allison Harvard and Ann Ward. In fact, I have already written about Allison, or Allicat as she fondly calls herself as well as her fans. Before ANTM, however, she was already quite popular. Her photos, which many found weirdly adorable, made rounds in the internet, most especially in the site Know Your Meme and 4chan, where she is dubbed as Creepy Chan. This is probably the reason why she was the most popular among ANTM‘s Cycle 12 contestants, aside from her strange fascination with blood and her huge eyes. And she returned in Cycle 17, and I was quite hopeful she’d win this time. Unfortunately, just like Cycle 12, she ended up bagging the second place. Izalright though, as Allison became more popular and received more modeling jobs after that last Cycle.

Below is a gallery of my favorite photos of Allison—from her Cycle 12 days to her artworks. Yes, she is an artist and paints really well. Click the photos for a larger version and to see more of Allicat. 🙂

Allison tweeted earlier this year that she’s participating in New York Fashion Week. Below are the two out of three shows she walked for:

Gemma Kahng Fall 2012

UPDATE: Allison recently walked for Michael Cinco x Bench during the Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012. Below is the motion editorial featuring Allicat 🙂 :

Paperdoll

I couldn’t think of a name for the post so I used the photographer’s title instead. How lazy of me, I know. Looking at these photos I initially thought of Sunkist (90s kids know this). I look so orange-y I want to drink myself. Haha. Ugh, awkward statement.

H&M Dress from Shop Class, Asianvogue heels

Miss Sartorial detachable collar

Orange has always been my favorite color since high school. My friends can attest to that. One time during our Christmas party at school, I wore a full orange+white outfit—top, bottoms, and slippers. I looked hideous. Lol. But seriously though, for me, orange looks very fresh and soothing to the eyes. It always reminds me of summer, and we know what summer usually means, right?—FUN!

Bag from Landmark, The Little Things She Needs connector ring

Cocco boater hat

I lost a number of stuff during the shoot, more due to my clumsiness and carelessness, which I tweeted about here. Nevertheless, I tremendously enjoyed this shoot with Antonio Aguila, who I met during the Philippine Fashion Week last year. This guy is so talented he does not alter his photographs and posts them on his blog as is, except of course this collaboration of ours. He did a bit of color-grading, but it’s obvious no alterations were made on my face and body. I can actually spot the teensy flabs hahaha 🙂

If you like my OOTD, hype this look on lookbook and chictopia!

Thanks again, Anton, for the wonderful photos! ‘Will be posting more pictures from this set soon.

Models I Stalk

When I was kid, if I’m not watching foreign TV series or animes, I ogle at the models taking the catwalk at FashionTV (FTV). I clearly remember how envious I was of their lean bodies and legs that go on forever (for obvious reasons). From that same TV show I first saw Gemma Ward, who at the time was only a mere 16-year-old.

Gemma Ward

Ward in San Francisco, 15 March 2007

Ward debuted in Australia fashion week when she was only 15, and after a year, found herself walking in Prada, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, and Calvin Klein. Her baby doll features inspired the fashion world so much, helping her become the youngest model to ever appear on Vogue alongside 2004 supermodels.

Currently, Gemma Ward, now 24, has taken an indefinite leave in the modeling scene and began pursuing an acting career. Three years ago, she became the talk of the town when she gained weight, which probably caused her to leave. I still love her, nonetheless.

Coco Rocha

I first heard of Coco Rocha when she modeled a Project Runway contestant’s winning jumpsuit. I was completely in awe at her poses as I have never actually seen anyone do those stuff in action. Her shots were featured in a Marie Claire billboard on Time Square:

Just look at those poses and faces, I mean, who does that? Apparently, Rocha, 23, does this quite often, which probably explains why she is so in demand at the moment. The industry refers to her as “The Queen of Poses.”

Sasha Pivovarova

When I first saw her, my initial thought was: “Gemma’s back!”

Apparently not, although Sasha and Gemma are always talked about online for looking like twins almost. Sasha, now 27, began her career about five years ago. Upon signing with IMG models, Prada immediately presented her with a three-year contract.

Along with Coco Rocha, Chanel Iman, and other models, this Russian model was featured in Vogue magazine cover titled “The World’s Next Top Models.”

Karlie Kloss

On the runway for Diane von Furstenberg, Spring 2009

Karlie Kloss became a legit model when she was only 14 years old (O.O). I know right. Currently 19 years old, Karlie has already walked for hundreds of high-fashion labels, among which are Givenchy, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Valentino, etc.

I like her for her quirky, fun attitude most especially when she walked for Victoria’s Secret last year. I didn’t exactly expect to see her there, but it was nice.

P.S. I know I failed to update my blog again. I couldn’t fit this in my crazy schedule at the moment. I apologize. So I made this quick post just to let you guys know that I might be “off the radar” (sort of), until the end of the month. You can follow me on Twitter though, I sometimes type absurd things there. Hoho.

84th Annual Academy Awards Best Dressed List

One of the most anticipated parts of the Awards season is the red carpet parade, where viewers get to see fashion hits and misses by Hollywood celebrities. When I started this blog, giving my top red carpet picks (in the Golden Globes and Oscars events specifically) became sort of a vow. And now, here I am presenting you my top choices despite my very tight schedule. (I’m sorry if I’ve been MIA for the past weeks, work and school stuff are taking way too much of my time at the moment.) Below are my top 5 in ascending order.

My fifth choice would be this spectacular Alexander McQueen gown worn by Jessica Chastain who’s a Best Suporting Actress nominee for her role in The Help. What I particularly love about this dress are the intricate gold details. It somewhat reminds me of autumn, which kind of gives off a somber vibe.

Delicate, soft garments attract me so much. I am in love with this Givenchy Couture gown donned by Rooney Mara, who definitely made her mark in Hollywood for her performance in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I’m still yet to watch the film (bummer, I know) but basing on the trailer, Mara absolutely deserves to be nominated as Best Actress for her role. Talk about how drastic the changes were in her appearance (I digress). Now her dress would have been impeccable, I think, if it fit well on the waist part.

Oh yes, the top trending topic on Twitter—Angie’s right leg. I’m pretty sure she did that for comedic purposes, posing like that on every picture, even onstage. But then again, minus the leg-baring stunt she pulled, she must be credited for choosing a velvet-y Atelier Versace gown. Scene stealer, I must say—the dress complemented her glowing skin.

Kristen Wiig’s look wasn’t everyone’s favorite, but it’s my top 2 choice. I love nude. It’s refreshing to the eyes, plus it complements almost everyone’s skin. Although, I think, Wiig of the Bridesmaids would have looked more sophisticated with this J. Mendel gown if she pulled her hair up, like a bun or something.

And my top look for the Oscars would be this Maria Lucia Hoha chiffon dress worn by Maria Menounos, a host of Access Hollywood. I told you I’m a sucker for soft thingies! 🙂 Menounos has such a great body, this dress suited her really well.

So those are my top picks. I don’t usually include men as I don’t know any thing about their fashion. Come back next year to see my top red carpet picks! 🙂

2012 Golden Globe Awards Best Dressed List

Indeed, time flies so fast. It was only last year since I started this blog and vowed to give you guys an update of the Golden Globe Awards. And now, the 2012 Golden Globe Awards has concluded and the winners have been revealed. Check out the list of winners at the bottom of this post.

On to my main subject—the Best Dressed list. I only picked out my top 5 choices though, as there were only a few good ones to choose from. It puzzles me how some Hollywood celebrities make awful choices when it comes to their wardrobe. I mean, hey, they are like the highest paid celebrities in the world and they can’t hire a decent stylist? Not that I’m a good dresser myself, but you understand what I mean, right?

The fifth spot would go to Kate Beckinsale. She chose a Roberto Cavalli gown and matched her look with diamond bracelets and earrings.

My fourth choice would be this Basil Soda dress worn by E! personality and Fashion Police panelist Giuliana Rancic. I’m digging the torso details, which give a conservative yet sophisticated vibe.

This is my third. Oh viva Versace! Haha. Aside from Nicole Kidman looking sexxxay in this dress, I also love how the torso details were constructed. It looks so structured, prolly because of the diagonal bodice cuts you see. I’m not sure though about the gold detailing/studs(?)—they look a bit over-the-top to me, which could be the reason why she kept her accessories minimal. Balance is key.

Second, one perfect example of a celebrity who always gets it right is Angelina Jolie. If you watched last year’s GGAs, then you could recall her looking so stunning in a sparkly green dress. This look of hers is no different. She was jaw-dropping in this year’s Golden Globes, thanks to this Atelier Versace gown. I’m not really a fan of satin or any glossy fabric, but the pop of red won me over.

And my top best dressed gal is no other than my forever girl crush Charlize Theron, who graced the red carpet in Dior Haute Couture gown and vintage Cartier jewels. The way her hair was styled is impeccable. Truly, she looked like a real Grecian or Greek goddess, if I may say.

So there are my best dressed ladies. But I think though there’s one girl who deserves a special mention. I’ve never really seen her as a fashion icon, but her look at last night’s GGAs is refreshing:

Yep, it’s indeed Zooey Deschanel! I loved how she showed her quirky and unique sense of style. This Prada dress complete with black and green embellishments stayed true to her personality.

One Hyundai Club: Life in Style Bloggers Lunch

Last Saturday, I was invited by Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the third leading car distributor in the country, to attend their bloggers lunch at Hotel Celeste in Makati. At first, I was skeptical of attending because I couldn’t find any reason why an automobile company would invite a personal style blogger. As it turned out, HARI will be holding an awesome event for everyone! Click here to know more about the event.

Fourth person to arrive. HAHA!

With the other invited bloggers. Florals galore! I really had a fun time with these people. It’s always nice to meet other bloggers. 🙂

With everydaydoll.com and pinoyrunner.com

Han of everydaydoll.com and I wore matching outfits that day–floral dress+blazer 🙂

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia!

I wanted to look simple so I decided not to pile on some accessories. I’m usually like this when I’m off to places I’ve never been to. I’d rather walk than take a cab, and lots of accessories only make me irritable especially when I couldn’t find the building I’m searching for. Hehe. I’m moody like that 😛

P.S.

Thanks, Kraiganne and Precious of HARI for the photos! 🙂

America’s Next Top Model All-Star (Cycle 17) Bits

I have been a fan of America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) since it’s first cycle in 2003. And now that the show has reached its 17th cycle, it thought of bringing the hottest and most controversial contestants it had in the past cycles. I was really excited when I found out that my favorite Allison Harvard has returned. She truly stood out during the show’s 12th cycle. For those who aren’t watching ANTM, Allison is also known as Creepy Chan of Know Your Meme. She first became popular there primarily because of her humongous doe eyes and fascination with blood. Unfortunately, she lost to Teyona Anderson. Now that she’s back, I’m really hoping she’d win this time.

She registers really well in photos. Just look at these:

Last week, she received the first call out for her amazing (somewhat creepy) music video. In the episode, they were tasked to write a song and sing it themselves:

Her song was titled Underwater, which talked about her father’s recent passing.

In other news, Georgina Wilson, one of the Philippines’ most popular models, is set to appear on ANTM’s episode this week. According to her, she will “join as a guest model/stylist” for the show in Greece, wherein the remaining six contestants will be wearing Bench (you heard it right, as in Bench from the Philippines!) Body apparels.

Below are some photos (source):

L-R: Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco, America's Next Top Model coach Jay Manuel, Bench CEO Ben Chan, and Bench Architect Miguel Pastor

Michael Cinco, also a Filipino, seems to be a favorite of the show as ANTM already showcased his work during the previous cycle’s couture episode, which I blogged about here.

Model Georgina Wilson, Bench CEO Ben Chan, and stylist Noel Manapat

Enjoying Greece, eh?

GUESS x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

I was fortunate enough to receive an invite for Guess’ fashion show. This month’s fashion week is actually featuring all the spring/summer collections, but since it’s Guess’ first time to join PFW, they also included their fall/winter collections.

My camera was a total failure during the show, so I was only able to take a few passable photos for blogging.

A number of celebrity endorsers walked the runway for Guess. Wasn’t able to take photos of them though. Sad 😐 I just hoped EVERYONE was seated throughout the event. But no :s However, I was able to shoot a short video, which I will upload in this post in a bit.

After the event, I had the opportunity of taking a picture with my favorite veejay Sanya Smith, who was the dj of the show (IKR, siya na talaga!). She’s incredibly tall and nice, while I, once again, looked like a hobbit.

Thanks, Katt, for the photo! 😀

And yep, you GUESSED it right! An event like this should not end without taking photos at the photo booth.

Katt, the kaladkarin. She has always been supportive of my fashion endeavors. Thanks, bakla! 🙂

And now on to what I wore to the event:

Freeway X Manansala Special Tribute and Collection Launch

When I was kid, I dreamt of becoming an artist and fill a whole gallery of my paintings.

I still want to pursue that dream. In fact, what I’m currently interested in is very much related to the arts. Only this time, instead on a canvas, the masterpiece is “painted” on clothes, “painted” being a metaphorical word.

However, not until yesterday, I have never considered using real artworks as clothes. I mean I know it’s possible, but quite honestly it never crossed my mind.

But Freeway thought about it. For years, Freeway has been celebrating the Filipino’s creative talent by featuring the Philippine’s national artists, such as Nick Joaquin (Literature), Ang Kiukok (Visual Arts), Jose Garcia Villa (Literature), Ramon Valera (Fashion Design) and F. Sionil Jose, in their designs and collection. A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail from Freeway, inviting me to attend their collection launch and tribute to Vicente Manansala, a neo-realist artist who was recognized as national artist for visual arts in 1982.

“Manansala consistently worked in the figurative mode, with the exception of a few abstract works. Shunning Amorsolo’s rural idylls, he developed a new imagery based on the postwar urban experience. The city of Manila, through the vision of the artist, assumed a strong folk character. He painted an innovative mother and child, Madonna of the Slums, 1950, which reflected the poverty in postwar Manila. Besides the mother-and child, his subjects included jeepneys, barong-barong, cockfighters, families gathering for a modest meal, and Quiapo women vendors of various goods. The cubist aspect of Manansala’s work rests largely on the geometric facetting of forms and in the shifting and overlapping of planes. But his facets and planes are broader than in original cubism as they bring out larger rhythms. Here and there, he incorporates linear decorative patterns, as in the ironwork curlicues of gates and windows. In his work, he developed the style of transparent cubism which was generally shared by his fellow neo-realists Cesar Legaspi and Romeo Tabuena. Unlike analytical cubism, which arbitrarily fragments and dissects the figure into complex abstract compositions with only clues of the subject remaining, Manansala stayed close to the figure which he simplified to its basic geometric shape. He went through the black-and-white phase of crucifixions and madonna-and-child paintings, but, on the whole, he used color in all its folk vibrancy, sensuous appeal, and evocative power. As a whole, Manansala reinterpreted or indigenized cubism as he drew his themes from the familiar Filipino environment.”

The collection featured 22 designs, including graphic tees and dresses and as well as Manansala watches and bags, some of which I was able to take photos.

MANGO F/W 2011 Fashion Show

Last night, I was invited by Connect Agencie to attend the MANGO Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show at Resorts World, Pasay City.

Prior to the event, I had apprehensions  about going. For one, Resorts World is miles away from Diliman. Second, I dunno how to get there. And lastly, I have no companion. I am yet to overcome my shyness in crowds (especially when surrounded by fashion people), so it’s a must that I bring one or few with me. Thankfully, Katt and Paolo were more than willing to accompany me to the event.  Thanks, guys! Hee~

Paolo, whose Eiffel tower bag amused everyone, and Katt, wearing a striped knit top from House of Cocco (have to say it. Haha)

The dress code for the event was luxe grunge. I didn’t know what luxe grunge is until two days ago. When I first read the invitation, I thought it was luke grunge and tried googling it and nothing came up. I tried deciphering the low-resolution invi and found out that it’s actually ‘luxe’ not ‘luke.’ Kalurkey. Haha. Below is the peg I used and my modified take on it:

Hello me! Sheer top from House of Cocco| Blue bandeau underneath| Cross necklace| Rayon knit skirt from Forever 21| Gladiator heels from Parisian

I didn’t wanna go all dark and too grungy so I decided to don a cream sheer top from House of Cocco  and gold wallet from Prada , and piled on some accessories:

Now on to the fashion show. It was hosted by model and make-up artist Bianca Valerio, whose hair and style we so loved that night:

MANGO launched their Fall/ Winter Collection for 2011, which was styled by the country’s best up-and-coming stylists — Myrr Lao To, Patrick Galang, Teej Nepomuceno, Bianca Santiago-Reinoso of Maven Magazine, and Anna Canlas of Preview Magazine. In no particular order, the following were the styles that I was able to take shots of. Pardon me for the heads peeking at the sides. 🙂

Bloggers at work 🙂

I especially adore this collection.

Animal print galore

One thing I realized from the show is that all you need to look trendy are basic pieces, such as shorts and a white top, and creativity. If you look closely at the collection, most of them can be found in any store but were given more attitude and character by creative styling. With this, I take my hat off to  all the personalities who styled the models for producing a really mind-blowing show.

Speaking of mind-blowing, I was finally able to meet Camille Co of Coexist whom I interviewed last summer. She’s really nice and sweet, and incredibly tall! I swear I looked like a hobbit. Ehe~

Aside from meeting and seeing my favorite fashion bloggers and media personalities, MANGO also gave away some goodies! Yay! Who does not want a free MANGO animal print pouch and Pond’s x Nivea items?? 😀

I am one happy blogger. Hee~

And of course, we cannot leave the venue without any remembrance, celebrity style. 😛

Congratulations Connect Agencie for organizing an awesommmmme show! Thank you for making my first fashion event coverage memorable. Until the next one! 🙂

P.S.

How do you like my fresh-from-the-beach tan? 😀

Michael Cinco for America’s Next Top Model

Another feat for the Philippines! In episode 8 of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 16, a Filipino designer was featured. Michael Cinco, who is currently based in Dubai, was a guest designer for ANTM last week. The models used his creations for the photo shoot:

Alexandria Everett

Alexandria received the first call out and precedently won the episode challenge. I’m beginning to like her, though I’m not sure if her nicey-nicey attitude is  a facade or not. But at least she’s keeping her promise to Tyra.

Hannah Jones

Hannah poses really good, high-fashion style. I’m in love with he dress. Yay to Michael Cinco!

Molly O'Connell

Molly is developing a nasty attitude lately and sad to say that it’s affecting her performance, especially in between photo shoots and challenges. However, when she’s in front of the camera, she always delivers. ‘Love the corset!

So those are my top 3 picks for the episode. Unfortunately, the sweetest girl of the bunch got eliminated, Jaclyn Poole, because she sometimes have trouble controlling her face especially her mouth.

Kudos to her for getting the best photo in episode 7 though!

Jaclyn Poole

It’s finally out: Ann Ward for Vogue Italia!

Ann Ward, the extremely thin-waisted gal of ANTM Cycle 15’s controversial promo video, can be finally brought home! This stunner who stands 6 feet and 2 inches is currently gracing Beauty in Vogue’s March cover photographed by Ellen von Unwerth, the fashion photographer well known for her playful and high contrast style [source].

Having won five consecutive best photo during the cycle, it is a no-brainer that she totally deserved to be declared as America’s next top model.  She may be very shy, yes, but that trait could be mended. And by being on Vogue’s cover and pages, who wouldn’t gain confidence right? I’m pretty sure Ann’s timidness has diminished.

Styled by Shiela Single, Ann has definitely transformed from an awkward girl to a high-fashion model. Check out the behind-the-scenes video:

Someday I’ll Be Alice and Fall Through the Rabbit Hole

I have loved Alice in Wonderland since I was a kid. The original novel, Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, is the first English novel I read. I still remember how I endured the holes and dust that ailed that book (because I only found it at our old mini-library at home) and how it tickled my imagination. Yes, even at such a young age I already wondered what Alice wore when she fell through that rabbit hole. It wasn’t ordinary of course. The best thing about fiction is that it’s open to many possibilities; even the most hideous and ridiculous images are allowed.

Going back to Alice, I was so thrilled when I saw that America’s Next Top Model have done an Alice-in-Wonderland-inspired shoot for their 3rd episode. They shot in groups of two (which is very hard to do). But the best part is, they wore couture dresses from Chanel, Galliano, among others. Perfect!

Below are the top 3 group shots which also happened to be my top 3 choices.

3rd: Brittani Kline and Hannah Jones

2nd: Kasia Pilewicz and Molly O'Connell

1st: Monique Weingart and Alexandria Everett

I specifically love Brittani’s, Kasia’s, and Alexandria’s looks and dresses. I want a photo shoot like this one (ANNOUNCING… lulz). Better keep these as pegs.

Alexandria is most of the time bitchy and bossy to everyone on the show, but she definitely delivers during photo shoots. She resembles Cameron Diaz like A LOT. I’m rooting for Brittani to win though. 🙂

Styled by Lori Goldstein (I adore her aesthetic!)

Maria Aragon’s Cover of Born This Way Brought Lady Gaga to Tears

I awfully wished I had pipes as good as this young lass. But I got a man’s voice instead. Haha. And I’m a girl. Horrible.

Anyway, Maria Aragon is a 10-year-old Fil-Canadian who made a cover of Lady Gaga’s newest hit, Born This Way. The child’s rendition of the song brought Gaga to tears saying that she “Can’t stop crying over this. This is why I make music. She is the future.” on her Twitter account. After posting this tweet, the video of Maria got an overwhelming 10 million hits. Pretty amazing, huh?

What can I say? The child indeed has talent. No wonder Lady Gaga would like to sing with her.

Meanwhile, check this Grammy Awards performance by The Fame Monster:

Extra Extra! :)

Hey, guys. Have you seen the February 2011 issue of Meg magazine?

The Feb issue presents the spring 2011 trends–from prints, florals, colors, and grays. The best thing about Meg is that their pages cover lots of tips, information, and updates on fashion, events, and blogging and bloggers (my fave portion). Fashion-wise, the mag’s styles are very easy to imitate; the clothes’, accessories’, and shoes’ designs that they show are very easy to find in malls. AND…

I was in it! On page 28. Hohoho. Yesss I’m proud even if I was only an extra and I my head looked big. Lulz.

I happened to be one of the top 40 candidates of Meg magazine’s Face Search and that night was the announcement of the top 10. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it because I didn’t know that I was one of the top 40.Sigh. Anyway, read here to know more about the event.

Voting ended in December 2010. Who do you think won? Let’s just wait for the March cover to find out. 🙂

UPDATE:

Phoebe Rutaquio won the search. Congrats, Phoebe! 🙂

Victoria Beckham’s Allure Cover Shoot BTS for March

When I was a kid, I thought of Victoria Beckham as very sexy but snotty. It’s a relief to know (based on this BTS video of her Allure cover shoot) that she is actually quite funny and kids and smiles a lot–a complete opposite of what the media try to show.

And she reveals that she eats a lot! Hmmm.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

I was so busy lately and I didn’t find out until yesterday that the Grammys had concluded. Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now won Record of the Year. I couldn’t agree more, you know. It is indeed one hell of a song.  There is a lot of buzz arising regarding Eminem losing over The Suburbs for Album of the Year, and Justin Bieber over Esperanza Spalding (I know what you’re thinking, I don’t know her either.) for Best New Artist.

To know the complete list of winners, check here.

Of course, awards night is never complete without the display of gowns and tuxedos. I don’t know much about men’s fashion, so I’d rather talk about the ladies. Below are my top 5 picks:

5th: Kathy Griffith. Yellow is a lovely color. Suits her.

4th: Selma Blair. I would want to wear that dress even if I'm not pregnant.

3rd: Heidi Klum looking chic and poised in Julien Macdonald

2nd: Jennifer Hudson. Oh Versace, you never fail to impress me!

1st: Nicole Kidman gets my vote. Wearing a floral Jean Paul Gaultier, she is definitely ready for spring. I particularly adore its fade effect.

Musicians, I think, are the most creative people in the entertainment industry. They come up with seriously hilarious stunts and surprises. And this won me hands down:

Do you recognize her? It's Snooki Polizzi of Jersey Shore! Her antics annoy me, but when she graced the red carpet at yesterday's Grammy's, I was in utter shock. The girl can definitely pull off a sophisticated look, yo.

But yeah, even Snooki was no match for The Fame Monster:

Where on earth is she?

Lady Gaga was inside that giant translucent egg. Reminded me of The Emperor’s New Clothes only that she wasn’t naked. It was reported she didn’t come out of the egg until her performance. Grand entrance, eh? This is what you call thinking out of the box.

Taking Off the Intellectual Hat

Today was unlike any other day. Being the risk-taker that I am (or so I thought), I, along with a friend, signed up for an acting workshop with no less than Ms. Laurice Guillen. She is one of the best directors in the country, so you could imagine my fear when I saw her. She has this very powerful aura, you know, and all you can do is give what you can, even if it falls short most of the time.

The Venue: Pixelgrain, Inc.

I struggled in most of the exercises. Ms. Laurice and her daughter Ina were right. I tend to intellectualize and analyze things to the point that they prevent me to freely feel and express myself. I was overly conscious of how stupid I would look and what my audience would think of me. Slowly though, I let go, but not totally. I still had qualms and, at some point, returned to that urge I had at the beginning to construct complete, meaningful sentences. It was difficult and excruciating, really. I cried lots of times, but I certainly learned a lot–to think that the workshop was only 5 hours.

And did I mention that my co-participants are already actors on TV? Unbelievable, so when I saw them, the fear I had tripled. Dun dun dun dun!

L-R:(first row) Renan, Ms. Ina, Ivan; (second row) Miles, Osai, Gaby, Direk Laurice, Me, Ali, Sheena, Renz

I personally liked Miles Ocampo and Osai. They smiled at and talked to me lots of times. They were so nice. I was dying to have a photo op with Gaby dela Marced though but to no avail.

L-R: Osai, Me, and Miles

Thanks to all the people who were instrumental to my learning today. It was such an honor to share the floor with the best director in the country and these awesome actors. My friend and I will definitely be back. I will learn and improve, I promise that. 🙂

Forever 21 + St. Francis Square = A Must-Love

Ali and I usually have lazy weekends together. We just normally eat, sleep, watch movies, and surf the net on those days. So today, to spice things up a bit, we decided to go outside Quezon City. She’d been urging me for weeks to visit St. Francis Square for there are lots of goodies there. And since it was just right behind Megamall, I asked her that we pass by Forever 21.

Whenever I go to Megamall, I always make sure to visit Forever 21 even if I do not have intentions of buying. Just looking at the store and its incredibly fashionable items makes me blissful!

Forever 21 has the most amazing pairs of shoes 🙂

Yep, that’s me trying on some nude wedges. I know what I want next time. Hee.

Modeling 101: Who is a Fashion Model?

When we think of a fashion model, we imagine statuesque, thin-framed individuals. That’s understandable because that’s what we usually see in magazines and catwalks. We have to consider though that fashion modeling is not just about magazines and catwalks, although they are both means of advertising products.

A model is a person who poses or displays for purposes of art, fashion, or other products and advertising. These cover commercial, runway, painting and such. Therefore, models can be classified into two types:

Whitney Thompson, ANTM winner, plus size

  1. High fashion models. These are the people you often see walking the runway and gracing the magazines. They are usually 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet in height, and 0 in size. (I know right. How can someone be that tall yet that small. Now we know why some models are anorexic. Being a high fashion model is a lot of stress.)
  2. Commercial models. I call them the normal people.  Commercial modeling is less restrictive than fashion modeling because it is where you can find both petite (5’7″ and below) and plus-sized persons (size 14 and higher). (Just imagine if all advertisements you see on TV are sky-high gals. That won’t be very realistic.)

So there is really truth in the saying that fashion is for everyone. Or shall I say, modeling is for everyone. If you are an aspiring model, you just have to know which department you and your statistics fit better and take it from there. It is definitely a plus if you can act and photograph well.

October Target: Score an Invite for the 2011 Philippine Fashion Week

I have never seen a single show of the Philippine Fashion Week. I could say I’m a lot more “adept” in foreign collections. The Philippines is a rich country, not just in values and agriculture, but also in aesthetics. We’ve seen and heard about Filipinos taking the fashion industry by storm, such as Danica Magpantay who was recently crowned as Ford Supermodel of the World, besting approx 70 other contestants from all over the world, and Rajo Laurel whose cobweb dress landed the cover of  Womens Wear Daily, the fashion industry’s bible, on February 9, 2010 :

17-year-old Danica outshines over 70 models, winning $250,000 modeling contract with Ford Models.

Vanessa Hudgens for Candie’s 2011 Spring Campaign

Move over Britney, Vanessa is now that new star of Candie’s. It was just recently confirmed and announced by Candie’s that Vanessa Hudgens of  the epic High School Musical will be their ambassador for their 2011 campaign. Below are the ads for the campaign:

Candie’s sells junior-sized clothing (teen wear). Although Vanessa’s not a teen anymore, her petite figure makes her a believable endorser for teen wear.

But do you think she’ll attract more buyers than Britney? And what can you say about the Candie’s 2011 spring collection?

Preview No. 3: Liz Uy

Hurray! I was able to grab a copy of the Jan/Feb 2011 issue with no less than Liz Uy on the cover yesterday.

What is so special about her that made her land the cover of the No. 1 local fashion magazine? First of all, Liz Uy is just one of the most popular or, shall I say, best stylist in the country; she is a presidential and celebrity stylist. Moreover, she is also the fashion editor of the magazine  she posed for. Although some people raised their eyebrows upon seeing her on the cover (because it’s like a rule that magazine editors and staff should avoid featuring themselves), I think it’s quite a great idea having her. For one, Liz’s style is prodigious yet smooth. It’s like natural for her to look fashionable. Second, the buzz she unintentionally created last year is definitely something worth featuring. Aside from that, she handled all the rumors like how a real fashionista should handle them–with grace and poise. And third, as one reader said, it’s probably high time that magazines stop featuring actors. and instead present those people who helped those actors look beautiful.

Well that’s just about the cover, you haven’t seen anything yet. Unlike other magazines, Preview always comes up with creative ideas in every issue. Last December, they launched the augmented reality with Solenn Heussaff. In this month’s issue, Preview presents the best of S/S 2011 trends “in tune” with the greatest musical compilations:

Gimme That Trophy: The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards

“A Golden Globe Award is an accolade presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to recognize excellence in filmtelevision (and probably music) both domestic and foreign. The annual formal ceremony and dinner at which the awards are presented is a major part of the film industry’s awards season, which culminates each year with the Academy Awards.”  ~Wikipedia, 2011
Do not confuse the Golden Globe with the Oscars fellas. Oscars (a.k.a Academy Awards) recognizes films alone. Now, The Golden Globe Awards are being held as we speak at Beverly Hills, California. While waiting for the results, take a peak at the video and red carpet photos below all from Yahoo regarding the nominations:

What’s Up with Royal Fashion?

Every woman in the world has dreamt of being a princess. We imagined ourselves wearing sparkling gowns, diamond-encrusted tiaras and crowns, overflowing food, unlimited riches, and a handsome prince, not knowing that there is more to being a princess. In the real world, royal people are nothing different from celebrities. Their lives are open to the public, paparazzis swarm around them and take photos during their most unguarded moments.

THE ROYAL COUPLE: Prince William looks a lot like Princess Diana. Gee. Kate is so stunning!
