Holga Series: Mind Cruisin’

It’s been a year since I last saw the ocean so when Chad told me we’re going to La Union, I agreed without hesitation. I haven’t been to La Union but I do know it’s a famous surf spot, and I understand why. It’s clean and the waves as well as the locals are very pleasant. I initially wanted to try surfing again, like I did last year, but we didn’t get to bring nor rent a longboard so I learned skimboarding instead.

This is me smiling after bruising my knee and thigh, getting a swollen ankle, and landing on my butt after sliding countless times. I have low pain tolerance, but when it comes to learning how to surf and skim, I’m willing to endure a few injuries. Those injuries pale in comparison to that certain high you get after successfully riding the board, that feeling of being stoked. I’m not really an excitable person, but beach and water activities (or even the lack thereof) often delight me.

And no, I did not wear these while learning how to skimboard. That would be difficult, not to mention ridiculous. I would topple down even before I get to the board. Lol. This is 1 of the 3 looks I wore in the Beach Bunny video Chad and I made. Please watch if you haven’t. 🙂

Making the sailor salute because I’m wearing a sailor top. Don’t judge. 😛

Beach Bunny

If you’re following me on Twitter (or Facebook), you’ve probably known that I came to La Union with the boyfriend for a little vacation. Chad’s just arrived from Florida, while I’ve been dying to see the ocean for months. So this week’s the perfect time for travel.

Now below is a video we made during our 3-day stay in La Union. We called it a video lookbook as it shows three of my favorite, if not usual, looks. Chad only used a holga for this video and no manipulations were made, except cutting unnecessary scenes. We had so much fun making this so we hope you will enjoy watching it, too.

Beach Bunny (video lookbook) from chad verzosa on Vimeo.

I’ve prepared individual posts for each look and will share them in the coming days so watch out for them if you want to see photos and the list of brands I wore in this vid.

If it’s not too much, give us some love over at Facebook by liking our video and sharing it on your wall–just follow this link. Thank you so much! Bye bye <3

Feline

I love cats. They are the sweetest creatures from the animal kingdom, and are perhaps the most tamed. I’ve been a cat owner since I was a child as cats aren’t really that hard to maintain. They clean themselves and know where to poop.  However, when I had to leave my hometown to pursue a job in Manila, I had to leave my cat Miming behind. He’s old and was frequently gone to god-knows-where. I was saddened by the fact that I won’t be getting late-night surprise visits from Miming anymore. He’s my stress-reliever.

Fast forward to August 2012, my housemate found this poor kitten at the park, soaking wet. Being a cat lover as well, she brought this precious creature home and we adopted it and called it Kitty. Kitty can be very sweet, but most of the time playful and naughty. She likes to play with my hair, keys, cables, and walking feet. Whenever she sees one of those, Kitty gets very excited that her eyes would look so big.

What I love most about her is that she’s very smart. It only took me one day to teach her how to use the makeshift potty Dodon, my other housemate, made for her. She learned really fast; the next day I didn’t have to direct her to the potty. And last week, she learned how to properly cover her poop. Yay! 😀

Studded

Thursday was such a busy and exhausting day. I and the boyfriend who has recently arrived from Florida (Yihee! :D) had to travel from Quezon City to Pasay to get our Bench Universe Fashion Show tickets at the SM Mall of Asia Arena (the show was absolutely stunning by the way; will post a separate  entry about it). Since MOA is miles away from my place, I had to wear an outfit in which I could freely move so I opted for this look.

Oversized studded knit dress from F-STOP| Bench shorts| Sling bag from Dushbag| Flats from Farmer’s Bazaar

Excuse my chubby self 😛 I know it’s been ages since I last shared an outfit post, but I am elated to tell you that I’m back and will be sharing more looks in the coming days! 🙂 This outfit is not that special I know, but comfort is always my top priority in deciding what to wear.

Also, I just couldn’t get over how comfortable this studded top is. Studs and knits aren’t really my style but I feel amazing in this! I think my look could have looked boring without the studs as well. ‘Wore shorts and flats with it so I don’t end up torturing my legs and feet, and I’m glad I did. 🙂

Of course, headphones and music are a must for travel.

It’s blurry but I like it. 🙂

Thank you, Chad, for taking my photos! <3

Don’t forget to hype this look on lookbook and and chictopia! 🙂

Wrangler Fall/Winter Collection Launch

Wrangler is one of the biggest denim brands with hundred years of denim heritage. Founded in 1904, Wrangler was originally named Blue Bell, and rooted as a work wear company specializing in Overalls. In 1947, the name Wrangler was born, which means “working cowboy”. Since then, Wrangler has delivered denim innovation and authentic craftsmanship, and stayed true to its devotion to denim history.

Wrangler is known for its trademark design called the 7 Icons, which speaks of impeccable form and function. I’m not really particular with pants, most especially the designs, but looking at Wrangler’s presentation below, you would actually see how much thought was poured in creating a pair of jeans that are both stylish and functional.

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to be invited to Wrangler’s Fall/Winter Collection Launch at Robinsons Manila. The event was hosted by the bubbly Kim Jones (below). I love her shoes.

The fall/winter collection is a story of two people who travel and explore places, inspired by the thrill of discovery. Every destination is represented in Wrangler clothing pieces–colorful tops are inspired by the sunrise, which signals the beginning of the journey.

The above photos are just a few of the pieces you’ll be seeing in Wrangler stores, but let me show you more through this short clip I made. The video contains some footage and photos from the fashion show.

I also managed to take some photos of the denim bar:

But what I loved the most are the displays! I’m in love with photos like the ones below. I love traveling as well, it does good things to the soul.

I wish Wrangler would also sell these luggages! Haha. I wanted to nick them and take them home. Thank god I was able to restrain myself. Haha.

And those are just some of the good things you can expect from your favorite Wrangler branch. But of course, I need to thank Melai of Style and Soul for inviting me. It’s been a while since my last fashion show so I’m extremely grateful. I had a great time. Thanks, Melai!

Meet Jay and Sophia. Yay for new friends!

I’m leaving you with this awesome ad by Wrangler. It makes me want to hop on a car (though I can’t drive haha) and go somewhere.  It’s nice to be spontaneous sometimes.

Be Confident by Anya Sarre

Shoes, apparel, and accessories should make us feel good about ourselves and should be an expression of our inner beauty. It can be very frustrating when we are looking for an outfit for a special event and end up getting that awkward feeling in the dressing room because of the way something fits or looks.  Fret no more—even celebrities need confidence boosters, which help their glow for all to see! There are many steps you can take to avoid this situation leading to a boost in self-confidence and more happy occasions!

Shop Your Favorite but Dare to Try New Things

Of course we all fall into our comfort zones, but don’t fall victim to the ease of your systematic routine. Try something new—new colors, new prints, new textures, new style. There is a way for everyone to pull off the hottest summer red carpet styles with their own sense of style and flair! Let your inner fashionista shine brighter than the sun and leave others admiring your style.

Try Out Body Conscious Trends

Fashion should make you exude your confidence. Body-conscious dresses and bandage skirts have been a big trend in the recent seasons because they seem to favor any body type, height, and size. Maxi dresses and pastel colored skinny jeans also seem to look good on everyone. Silk and chiffon blouses are a practical and versatile staple that will flatter any figure. Pair a striped maxi, with vintage accent jewelry and a pair of sunshades to look cool, calm, and glamorous this summer.

Wear the Right Shoes

Shoes make a huge difference on how the outfit looks on you. If you think that reflection in the mirror is unattractive, it might be because you are wearing a cocktail dress with shoes meant for the beach. Wear some trendy wedges or take your night out heels on shopping trips so you can get a glimpse of what your outfit will really look like. Let your inner fashionista shine and fall into your own chic style!

Spice Up Your Life: Spice Girls Olympic Performance

6:00 AM Philippine time is officially the highlight of my month. Spice Girls, the 1990s girl group who made ‘Girl Power’ possible, performed during the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic games in London. I seriously didn’t sleep just to see them again and it was all worth it. I loved them when I was a child (I wanted to be Baby Spice aka Emma Bunton) and you could imagine my excitement when I saw them again, all five of them, since they disbanded around a decade ago. Below are some highlights of the performance:

Posh, Ginger, Baby, Sporty, and Scary werrrking it! Yes, they absolutely still got it; they look better than ever!

Melanie Chisholm or Mel C, in all her sporty glory (pun definitely intended), wears JD Sports. Performance level pa rin! She has always been the best performer (and singer) in the group.

And Melanie Brown (Mel B/Scary Spice) looking feisty in a Zuhair Murad bodysuit. She was the queen of catsuits back in the day so this is just perfect!

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, wearing Giles Deacon. It’s nice to see her have fun again! I wish I’ll look as hot as that when I’m 38.

Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, wearing Suzanne Neville. Her Union Jack dress got an upgrade. Fabulous!

My favorite, Emma Bunton also Baby Spice, wearing Maggie Cooke. She still looks lovely and adorable. Talk about aging gracefully! She’s 36. 🙂

This was the Spice Girls during the 1997 BRIT Awards, where Ginger made headlines with her Union Jack dress, making it one of the most iconic moments in pop culture. Later on, the Union Jack was seen in every clothing piece.

Here’s a video of their whole performance during the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony:

And their  awesome Pepsi commercial in 1996. Remember when those shoes were the fad? I was heartbroken when my mom couldn’t buy a pair for me. Haha

Metamorphosis

As you have noticed, I have changed my blog name from Zeros and Fives to Metamorphosis. For one, I am no longer a size zero kid like I was when I started this blog. Haha. Yes, I got, er, chubby. I don’t really mind though, as I have been trying to look healthier since forever. And two, my feet have amazingly grown from size five to six. Didn’t think it’s still possible, given that I’m nearing quarter life.

This blog was initially created to document my style progress, and true to that I shared photo shoots that I have attended where I styled myself (except for the Nivea Face Affair shoot). I do not have an exceptional style, I’m quite aware of that, but through this blog I have witnessed my fashion sense improve.

I was a scrawny kid with an awful fashion sense. That’s me at the far right, with friends. If I remember correctly, I was 11 in this photo, which was taken while we were at a youth camp in Iriga, Camarines Sur. Saling pusa lang ako sa camp na ito, the guys I’m with were my siblings’ friends and org mates. You can already see, however, my fascination with hats, belts, and colors, albeit I wasn’t aware yet how to mix and match properly. Talk about disaster. Haha

This photo on the left was taken when I was 18 years old. I and my sister (right) were big fans of black, you see.

I was 20 in the next photo—a few months after my graduation. I designed that white dress by the way and picked the textiles myself. I’ve always known what I want since I was a kid, but my family’s state at that time prevented me from pursuing them, particularly when it came to clothes.

My first ‘matinong’ photo taken in 2010

Only when I started earning my own money did I manage to buy some things that I fancy. And so I began experimenting and taking risks, some of which did not actually look okay. But hey, at least I tried.

And this is me two years after (and around 13 years after the youth camp above):

Obviously, I still love hats and colors. I’d like to think that my style has improved. I sometimes incorporate trends in my outfit, but I don’t forget to include something that’s ‘me’. My love for hats and comfortable clothes, that is.

So I think I’m going to use ‘Metamorphosis’ for a long while. It just hits home. My boyfriend can definitely vouch for that, as he has practically known me for almost a decade now.  He always tells me that I changed quite a lot, at least in physical appearance. A number of my schoolmates didn’t even recognize me when I chatted them up on Facebook. It made me a bit sad, but at least they know this is me now. Hahaha. It’s just amazing isn’t it, what a few years can do to a person. 🙂

School Boy

ForMe Top, shorts, and necklace, Forever 21 hat and purse, Asianvogue heels

When I was a kid, I didn’t have much friends. I only had two in elementary whom I could consider good friends, although I did hang out with a bunch of girls who were ‘popular’ at school. They’re popular mainly because they had ‘boyfriends’ from the upper year levels and are relatively from well-off families. For some reason, however, those girls seemed to develop particular hatred towards me, especially when I’m running for positions in school organizations. I never really gave it much thought back then. I had my two best friends anyway. But it’s funny, if you think of it now, how kids view relationships.

Fast forward to high school. I was very intimidated by the fact that I’m in a school full of geniuses. Yes, I was the top student of my batch in elementary, but later on I realized my skills were no match compared to my batch mates in Naga City Science High School. The first days of classes proved to be very difficult; I never understood any word my teachers were saying while my classmates could, especially in Math. How ironic, I thought, that I was awarded the Best in Mathematics medal when I was younger. Haha. Bibo kid lang ako siguro masyado.

I did meet new friends, a couple of them became my best buddies. I was extremely awkward and unpleasant looking back then. I was very skinny and I had ugly teeth (lol). I clearly remember one classmate of mine suggesting that I should comb my hair sometimes, dahil mukha daw akong na-rape lagi. Hahaha. That was in sophomore year. Did I start fixing myself after that? No. All that mattered to me was to study and graduate and eventually find a scholarship so that I could go to college. I did have my crushes, however, but unfortunately all of them were too busy ogling and courting the popular and pretty girls. I was just an ordinary student then, I’m not even sure if people knew I existed. I always carried a huge backpack where I put all my books and an encyclopedia (yes, ENCYCLOPEDIA), which I often used when my school books cannot provide me answers for my homework (Ah, so that’s probably why I have scoliosis now.). Yes, I was aware that the internet already existed at that time, but we didn’t have a computer at home; we didn’t even have electricity sometimes. I have experienced studying by candlelight—too many times that it became ordinary to me. Going to school was always a challenge for me. I won’t mention why anymore, but I used the hardships to rise above the situation.

I received a full scholarship (which I am thankful for) and was able to finish college with flying colors. I may not have taken my dream course in my dream school, but I still consider myself very lucky. Many people don’t even get the chance to study, not that I am taking comfort in their misfortune. All I’m saying is we should not be discouraged to pursue our goals just because we’re having setbacks. Be glad that we have them, because our triumphs won’t be as meaningful if we do not experience hurdles.

School has a very special place in my heart, hence the title of this post. Without it, I won’t be where I am now. I have not achieved all my goals yet, but I’m proud to say that I am at a better situation. It only took me a bit of time, lots of perseverance, and a tough heart to surpass all difficult challenges.

I love how this look reminds me so much of my childhood (cue My Daddy Long Legs, Judy Abbott song haha). It’s very comfortable, most especially the top and shorts. I commute and move around a lot so I appreciate chic pieces that do not compromise function.

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re stuck and you’re struggling to emerge from it? I’m beginning to wonder if the things I’m currently doing are indeed worth the effort, and if my hard work will bear any fruit at all. Before, I was so certain of what to do with my life that I have even drafted a ten-year plan. Slowly, albeit not entirely and exactly as planned, I achieved some of them bit by bit, despite the fact that I only came from a humble family. And I know that that is something to be proud of.  But what if all the hard work will amount to nothing? What if what you want isn’t really meant for you to have? How would you know?

I feel like escaping sometimes so I could free myself from my own questions, go somewhere sequestered and stay hidden for a while. Oftentimes when I need to contemplate on things, I detach myself from everything and go somewhere calming, like the woods. I know escaping is not the best way of facing one’s own demons but for some reason, I feel very at ease with nature. It helps me rediscover and rework myself, so this shoot with Jashen was very cathartic for me. Although I have not completely won over my battles, I’m beginning to see a glimmer of hope.

I am thankful to the people who never give up on me and to those I’ve met recently. For ForMe clothing to take a chance on me, despite the crisis I am going through, is very humbling. Maybe, just maybe, all the effort could be worth it after all.

Mulberry-inspired bag from Satchella

Forever 21 heels

I’m sorry I’ve been neglecting my blog again. I’ve been having an emotionally challenging week, but I’m slowly recovering though—thanks to 9gag, music, and loved ones. It’s great to have things and people you can always turn to during hard times. In most girls’ cases though, aside from the previously mentioned ones, shopping and make up are surefire ways to brighten their days. So yesterday, I dragged my ass out of bed and decided to make a post related to school fashion and make up. And above and below are what I came up with.

A lot of female students, most especially those who are in college, would prefer to look made up before heading to school. Below is one of my favorite looks (aside from the everyday make-up look)—it’s not too thick and flashy so it’s definitely appropriate for school.

I only have a limited palette, so I used my pink blush as the base instead. I like pink  because it brightens the eyes, much like when we put blush on our cheeks. And then I placed a gold eyeshadow from Majolica Majorca on top and blended it with the pink “eyeshadow” at the middle.  I also used a brown liquid eyeliner for a more natural effect.

See? It looks so natural. And then dab a bit of pink blush on the cheeks for a healthier look.

Lastly, put some pink lip gloss and you’re ready to go.

I hope you like the whole look! If you do, hype this look on lookbook and chictopia. 🙂

Big Jet Plane

How do you like my new blog layout? I hope you’re viewing this on a desktop or a laptop with a wide screen. I’m not sure if the layout is compatible with netbooks, as the balloons might cover some of the texts. As you know, my website was hacked by some phishing site yesterday. My web developer, Jehz, advised me to change my blog theme and delete the plug-ins, since they’re prolly the reason why my website was easily hacked. I realized it’s the most opportune time to put into action some thoughts that bugged me recently. And so I have, beginning with a new blog layout. 🙂

Paris Dreams MiuMiu-inspired bag

I bought the bag a few days before my trip to Bicol last month. I wanted something where I can fit all my clothes and shoes. I was on a budget and I didn’t want to pay additional airport baggage fees. Good thing Paris Dreams carries a line of MiuMiu-inspired bags in different colors, and at the same time, with enough space. It’s perfect.

Speaking of trips:

Someone shared this on Facebook some days ago and I fell in love with it right away. Take You Higher is actually a remix version of Angus & Julia Stone‘s Big Jet Plane. My boyfriend is a big Angus fan, but he liked this version as well, especially the video. We both love traveling, and any song that reminds us of it is instantly a favorite. Ah, I can’t wait for August.

SPOTLIGHT: Allison Harvard

I’ve been an avid fan of America’s Next Top Model since its first cycle, but I have not fangirl-ed over the contestants as much as I did with Allison Harvard and Ann Ward. In fact, I have already written about Allison, or Allicat as she fondly calls herself as well as her fans. Before ANTM, however, she was already quite popular. Her photos, which many found weirdly adorable, made rounds in the internet, most especially in the site Know Your Meme and 4chan, where she is dubbed as Creepy Chan. This is probably the reason why she was the most popular among ANTM‘s Cycle 12 contestants, aside from her strange fascination with blood and her huge eyes. And she returned in Cycle 17, and I was quite hopeful she’d win this time. Unfortunately, just like Cycle 12, she ended up bagging the second place. Izalright though, as Allison became more popular and received more modeling jobs after that last Cycle.

Below is a gallery of my favorite photos of Allison—from her Cycle 12 days to her artworks. Yes, she is an artist and paints really well. Click the photos for a larger version and to see more of Allicat. 🙂

Allison tweeted earlier this year that she’s participating in New York Fashion Week. Below are the two out of three shows she walked for:

Summer Love Giveaway (CLOSED)

It feels like it’s been ages since my last giveaway so I decided to post one today. Apart from that, I’d like to announce that I’ll be including brand new, authentic designer and American items in Zeros and Fives online shop‘s next collection. I personally feel that there is a lack of shops in the Philippines that carry varied American products. Mine will sell perfume, bags, footwear, and jewelry that are GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC, shipped directly from Florida, USA.

Now to launch that collection, dubbed Like a Lady, as most of them would certainly make anyone very lady-like, I am giving away these three items to one lucky reader:

Polka dots pants personally bought by me some months ago, brand new and unused.

Lace collar blouse from my June Days Collection (more cute items for sale!)

And these gorgeous 24KT gold over sterling silver earrings from Macy’s, one item from my new Like a Lady collection.

HOW TO JOIN:

1. Like Zeros and Fives’ Facebook page.

2. Post this on your Facebook wall (make sure it’s public). Tag Zeros and Fives Facebook page:

“Win a pair of pants and gold earrings, and cute top from Zeros and Fives! Go to http://daphneverzosa.com/?p=2416 for the mechanics.”

3. Follow Zeros and Fives on Twitter.

4. Tweet this (make sure it’s public, no need to tag me):

“Win a pair of pants and gold earrings, and cute top from Zeros and Fives! Go to http://daphneverzosa.com/?p=2416 for the mechanics. #summerlovegiveaway”

OPTIONAL: Double your chance of winning by adding Zeros and Fives on Multiply as contact. 🙂

5. Comment on this entry with your full name and Twitter name (and Multiply name if you did the “optional”).

NOTE: If your Facebook and Twitter are on private mode, please make sure to include the link to your Facebook and Twitter status. For Facebook, all you have to do is to click the time below your name (e.g., 8 hours ago) and copy the link/URL. For Twitter, click Expand then Details, then copy the link/URL. You don’t have to do this if your accounts are public. Or better yet, you may want to change your account settings to public until the promo is over. *wink*

It’s that easy! Strictly no double entries and please follow mechanics religiously. You have to make sure that Zeros and  Fives can find your Facebook and Twitter posts,  otherwise your entry will be forfeited. Promo ends on June 30, 2012. This is open to Philippine residents only. Good luck! <3

P.S. Blog giveaway winner will be announced via Twitter OR Facebook, like what I did last time. So make sure you’re INDEED following me on both accounts. I just have to say this to prevent people from accusing bloggers of picking ghost winners. I read it somewhere and that is just rubbish, although the post was not targeted towards me (hopefully). As for me, I am not using my computer all the time and I do have a life aside from maintaining the site, which my phone cannot handle. Okie?

Clothes, purse and shoes from Forever 21, Ode to Her ring, 1721 hair clip

I wore this outfit to ZALORA’s official launch last week. The dress code was “dress to impress” but I chose to wear the most comfortable items I could sport. In the past, I would wear outfits that are beyond my comfort zone, and I’d end up exhausted and displeased after. I know that we should sometimes experiment, but I’ve always believed that when it comes to fashion, comfort is key. Speaking of which, these shoes (which remind me of Jeffrey Campbell Litas–they look the same, no?) may look heavy but they are the most comfortable! New shoes often give me blisters, but these didn’t. Spell relief.  Aside from that, I looked tall. HAHA. It’s not everyday that I’m 5’5″, you know. Lol. Better grab the chance while I still can. 😛

ZALORA Official Launch (Photos)

On May 9, ZALORA invited the metro’s fashion-savvy bloggers and personalities to their official launch, and I was lucky enough to be invited thru Nuffnang. The beautiful Sara Meier was the night’s host. One rare thing about the launch is that ZALORA used a different kind of product presentation. Instead of walking the runway, the models who were wearing white garments just stood at the stage while the designs are projected onto their bodies. So techie. 😛

If you haven’t heard about ZALORA, below is a description of what they provide:

Zalora.com.ph aims to bring you womens shoes, mens footwear and a large variety of clothes from a huge range of well known and emerging hot brands with ease, simplicity, fast home delivery and an amazing customer support experience. You can quickly peruse our well known brands such as Folded & Hung, Crocs, Cole Vintage, DC, Dolce & Gabanna, Europak, Gucci, Holster, Jansport, Kipling and Bayo. Whether you are a daring fashionista, a conservative dresser or looking for sports workout gear, you can shop online. We ensure you’ll always discover fashion that compliments your style and needs perfectly. With free shipping right to your doorstep, why bother attempting those EDSA traffic jams or the MRT crunch to get to those crowded shopping malls?

Coming up: What I wore for this event 🙂 Ciao!

Chad gave me this really cute camera early this year. He takes great pictures and we agreed that he’d teach me photography when he comes back to the country this summer, and we’ll start with this Diana Mini. I’m quite excited of the new things I’ll learn and do this year. And you’ll definitely be the first ones to know what they are. I’ve just begun drawing again—it used to be my pastime when I was younger, but, well, I had to prioritize other things later on. It feels great actually, doing the things I used to love as a child. You know what, I might actually start buying canvases again and do a bit of—er—painting. I’m not good though, but I’ve always believed that there’s no craft that can’t be learned.

I watched The Avengers with friends twice this week. I wasn’t crazy with the picture the first time I saw the movie–sometimes 3D pictures can ruin a film. So last night, I and my friends decided to watch it (again), in 2D this time. And I was glad we did because I got to revisit some scenes that seemed confusing to me. May I just say the Hulk and Iron Man were totally hilarious in the film? I’ve been a fan of Tony Stark since I watched the first Iron Man movie. He’s extremely funny, and the role suits Robert Downey Jr. well.

I didn’t wear this outfit last night though. It’s so hot in Manila right now and there’s no way you could wear something like this.

I recently opened my small online shop, Zeros and Fives on Multiply and Facebook. I’ve always been fascinated with clothes and I’m very much aware of styles that would suit me by just looking at certain photos. I fancy clothes that are wearable and comfortable, things that one could actually wear outside of the house without feeling too self-conscious and awkward.

These photos were taken at around 3 pm at a park in Alabang Hills. There were lots of people during that time, but I didn’t feel any shyness at all. Echosera lang haha. I  felt great wearing the clothes and they actually gave me some confidence. It’s amazing what good clothes can do to a person.

I couldn’t think of a name for the post so I used the photographer’s title instead. How lazy of me, I know. Looking at these photos I initially thought of Sunkist (90s kids know this). I look so orange-y I want to drink myself. Haha. Ugh, awkward statement.

Miss Sartorial detachable collar

Orange has always been my favorite color since high school. My friends can attest to that. One time during our Christmas party at school, I wore a full orange+white outfit—top, bottoms, and slippers. I looked hideous. Lol. But seriously though, for me, orange looks very fresh and soothing to the eyes. It always reminds me of summer, and we know what summer usually means, right?—FUN!

I lost a number of stuff during the shoot, more due to my clumsiness and carelessness, which I tweeted about here. Nevertheless, I tremendously enjoyed this shoot with Antonio Aguila, who I met during the Philippine Fashion Week last year. This guy is so talented he does not alter his photographs and posts them on his blog as is, except of course this collaboration of ours. He did a bit of color-grading, but it’s obvious no alterations were made on my face and body. I can actually spot the teensy flabs hahaha 🙂

Thanks again, Anton, for the wonderful photos! ‘Will be posting more pictures from this set soon.

Have a TOMATO Summer!

Now who is in summer mode? Tomato is!

One thing I love about this year’s trend is the comeback of the  1960s fashion–polka dots and vibrant colors ahoy.

Now Tomato has infused all those in their summer collection! Just look at these pieces!

What I love about them is that the pieces, the top especially, just show the right amount of skin–not too itsy bitsy *cue Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini song*–but still great for a beach trip. I’m definitely gonna grab one. Hee~

Tomato says:

CLASSIC CAN BE SEXY IN TOMATO’S 2012 SUMMER COLLECTION

Tomato Summer has the vibe of retro 60’s goldern age with a modern sexy twist of the 2000!  The country’s premier stylists Pam Quinones and Rey Ilagan teamed up with in demand Make-up and Hair stylists Robi Pinera and Raymond Santiago in this Modern Classic Marc Nicdao photoshoot that gives you the Elegance and sexy vibe of the 60’s with a very fresh, young and modern twist.

Tomato channeled the legendary sex appeal of  Brigitte Bardo with a hint of that Cindy Crawford style.  It’s Hollywood royalty meets Fashion Icon!  Big hair and pop of colors in swimsuits and summer wear in muted and high contrast shades of green, tangerine, earth tone shades of browns and blues dominate the 2012 Tomato’s Summer Collection .  High waist cut swimsuits with sexy peek a boo details will make every woman feel like a siren while leaving the men gasping for more.  Summer beads in various colorful shades of yellow, orange, teal, green etc. are perfect accessories for the day on the beach.

For Tomato Green, it’s the 60’s clean sexy and mysterious look that’s rendered in fresh youthful contemporary style.  Brooding bad boy-good boy vibe will tingle your summer senses with Tomato Green’s 2012 Summer Collection.  It’s all about bringing out that sexy in you in comfortable clothes that are made to fit any type of body while enhancing your best features.  Above the knee thin shorts that fit close to the body with solid contrast color details are simply scene stealers, cuff shorts are most comfortable and stylish while colored chinos in green, blue, rust and red will definitely give you a fashion statement that spells confidence and style!

So hit your summer destination in Tomato’s 2012 Summer Collection!  Complete you stylish looks by wearing Tomato’s over sized summer eyewear and you are ready to go!

So if that isn’t enough to convince you to hit TOMATO stores right now, maybe this would:

HOTTT.

Blue

I know summer is supposed to be fun and pink and all, but this week has been unbelievably stressful that I didn’t get as much sleep. Fortunately, I was done with my final project and was able to submit it to my professor 10 minutes before the deadline. Imagine my relief when I thought I was late!

So my face says it all. But I feel a looot better now though. I hit the sack yesterday at around 6PM (yesss, that early!) and woke up at around 5AM today. Awesome sleep is awesome. I feel like a newly freed prisoner. Haha.

Peek-a-boo! I really love this top I bought at Forever 21. Blogger Domz spotted it when she styled me for the Face Affair. This didn’t make the cut though so I purchased it instead. Isn’t it gooorgeous? Tops or dresses with “sexy backs” can still look decent if the front has a modest cut, see?

I’ve always believed that less is more (not in clothing though, heh). I can go out of the house sans jewelry, you never even see me overaccessorize. If I’m wearing rings, I seldom wear bracelets. I’m quite small so I think too much accessories would make me look more like a dwarf. To compensate for the lack of height though, I wear heels. Would you believe that I have more pairs of heels than flats? 😛

Models I Stalk

When I was kid, if I’m not watching foreign TV series or animes, I ogle at the models taking the catwalk at FashionTV (FTV). I clearly remember how envious I was of their lean bodies and legs that go on forever (for obvious reasons). From that same TV show I first saw Gemma Ward, who at the time was only a mere 16-year-old.

Gemma Ward

Ward in San Francisco, 15 March 2007

Ward debuted in Australia fashion week when she was only 15, and after a year, found herself walking in Prada, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, and Calvin Klein. Her baby doll features inspired the fashion world so much, helping her become the youngest model to ever appear on Vogue alongside 2004 supermodels.

Currently, Gemma Ward, now 24, has taken an indefinite leave in the modeling scene and began pursuing an acting career. Three years ago, she became the talk of the town when she gained weight, which probably caused her to leave. I still love her, nonetheless.

Coco Rocha

I first heard of Coco Rocha when she modeled a Project Runway contestant’s winning jumpsuit. I was completely in awe at her poses as I have never actually seen anyone do those stuff in action. Her shots were featured in a Marie Claire billboard on Time Square:

Just look at those poses and faces, I mean, who does that? Apparently, Rocha, 23, does this quite often, which probably explains why she is so in demand at the moment. The industry refers to her as “The Queen of Poses.”

Sasha Pivovarova

When I first saw her, my initial thought was: “Gemma’s back!”

Apparently not, although Sasha and Gemma are always talked about online for looking like twins almost. Sasha, now 27, began her career about five years ago. Upon signing with IMG models, Prada immediately presented her with a three-year contract.

Along with Coco Rocha, Chanel Iman, and other models, this Russian model was featured in Vogue magazine cover titled “The World’s Next Top Models.”

Karlie Kloss

On the runway for Diane von Furstenberg, Spring 2009

Karlie Kloss became a legit model when she was only 14 years old (O.O). I know right. Currently 19 years old, Karlie has already walked for hundreds of high-fashion labels, among which are Givenchy, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Valentino, etc.

I like her for her quirky, fun attitude most especially when she walked for Victoria’s Secret last year. I didn’t exactly expect to see her there, but it was nice.

84th Annual Academy Awards Best Dressed List

One of the most anticipated parts of the Awards season is the red carpet parade, where viewers get to see fashion hits and misses by Hollywood celebrities. When I started this blog, giving my top red carpet picks (in the Golden Globes and Oscars events specifically) became sort of a vow. And now, here I am presenting you my top choices despite my very tight schedule. (I’m sorry if I’ve been MIA for the past weeks, work and school stuff are taking way too much of my time at the moment.) Below are my top 5 in ascending order.

My fifth choice would be this spectacular Alexander McQueen gown worn by Jessica Chastain who’s a Best Suporting Actress nominee for her role in The Help. What I particularly love about this dress are the intricate gold details. It somewhat reminds me of autumn, which kind of gives off a somber vibe.

Delicate, soft garments attract me so much. I am in love with this Givenchy Couture gown donned by Rooney Mara, who definitely made her mark in Hollywood for her performance in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I’m still yet to watch the film (bummer, I know) but basing on the trailer, Mara absolutely deserves to be nominated as Best Actress for her role. Talk about how drastic the changes were in her appearance (I digress). Now her dress would have been impeccable, I think, if it fit well on the waist part.

Oh yes, the top trending topic on Twitter—Angie’s right leg. I’m pretty sure she did that for comedic purposes, posing like that on every picture, even onstage. But then again, minus the leg-baring stunt she pulled, she must be credited for choosing a velvet-y Atelier Versace gown. Scene stealer, I must say—the dress complemented her glowing skin.

Kristen Wiig’s look wasn’t everyone’s favorite, but it’s my top 2 choice. I love nude. It’s refreshing to the eyes, plus it complements almost everyone’s skin. Although, I think, Wiig of the Bridesmaids would have looked more sophisticated with this J. Mendel gown if she pulled her hair up, like a bun or something.

And my top look for the Oscars would be this Maria Lucia Hoha chiffon dress worn by Maria Menounos, a host of Access Hollywood. I told you I’m a sucker for soft thingies! 🙂 Menounos has such a great body, this dress suited her really well.

So those are my top picks. I don’t usually include men as I don’t know any thing about their fashion. Come back next year to see my top red carpet picks! 🙂

How I Wear My Man’s Shirt

I’ve been wearing this shirt almost every week since I bought it last year.

One thing I love about oversized garments, in this case a shirt from Bench’s men’s department (yes, with glitters), is they are very easy to wear. I don’t have to worry about my tummy protruding whenever I overeat.

Men’s shirt from Bench| Connector ring from Stylebreak| Fabre necklace from Antler| Hair tie from Quirkyfinds

Despite this shirt being tailored for men, it does not mean one cannot make it suitable for ladies as well. This shirt could easily be mistaken for a woman’s though, perhaps due to the color and the glitters. But then again, the cut and proportions are meant for medium-built boys, so I often tuck this in or wear it with daisy dukes or skirts. Hello, Gadybee glasses and beanie!

Jeffrey Campbell Foxy-Inspired Platforms from Asianvogue

And of course, heels always make every look more ladylike.

My new job has literally changed my sleeping habits, I was up all night yesterday. Sad to say, I have noticed my eyes are looking duller. My ultimate solution for this problem, aside from eye creams and what not, is liquid eyeliner. For some reason, it always makes the eyes look livelier. I painted the upper contours of my eyes with thick black liner and voila!—no more dead eyes. I do not like putting pencil liners on my lower lids, it makes my eyes look droopy, which is obviously not gonna help with my situation at the moment.

Patterns + Dots (and a Few Unrelated Stuff)

For the past couple of days, I’ve been watching documentaries about the horrific shooting rampage in Columbine High School and Virginia Tech University, both in the United States. I know they’re old news but it still bothers me why those young kids resorted to those crimes. I’ve learned from research and documentaries that these kids, namely Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (Columbine), and Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech) were most probably “bullied” and depressed children, who took revenge by killing their schoolmates. Cho, however, was a stuggling writer. He’s so passionate about the craft but never accepted that he still had a lot of things to improve on. He also had selective mutism, a disorder that prevents a person to speak in some situations but is normally capable of speech. He only had one friend throughout his college life, excluding his English mentor, Lucinda Roy, who painstakingly tutored him on his writing. It struck me when Roy noted how disturbing it is that Cho, a very anti-social person, is desperate to be noticed though his work. I guess that’s really how some people think. It’s just that, maybe, Cho’s psychological state worsened, the same thing holds true for Eric and Dylan. His anxiety disorder and depression mutated into something more dangerous that lead him to commit a gruesome act.

Depression is something that should not be ignored, bullying included. I’ve seen the effect of it on people a lot times, one was firsthand. I could be pretty depressed at times too, but it is always good to have a support system—friends, loved ones—who are willing to divert your attention to something else. I’m quite thankful actually that I’m always busy. I barely have the time to wallow in self-pity. I have my friends, the boyfriend, my blog, and many fun activities to focus on—e.g., outfit shooting! (HAHA. Segue!)

Okay, so I will stop bombarding you with my thoughts. Anyway, one thing I do before I wear a risky garment outside of the house is I take pictures. No kidding. I don’t trust my mirror, so I turn to the camera for a second opinion.

These trousers could be easily mistaken for a table cloth! Trololol. If not worn right.

I’ve always believed that trousers like these, a.k.a harem pants, are not meant for short people to wear. It makes people look a bit wider and shorter, and midget ones like me can’t afford to look like a dwarf. Please, all we want in life is grow a few inches more. Hahaha. But then again, I don’t want to be limited just because of my lack of height, so I turned to my nude heels to see if I could rock these pants.

What do you think?

Added a few more edginess to the look by wearing this winged skull connector ring and animal print bangles.

Adorned the whole looked with humongous nerd glasses and bow headband for some quirky touch.

I don’t know how to make that sexy bed hair. Would anyone like to teach me?

Cheap Thrills

Perhaps one of the fears of shoppers when buying affordable items is that they might look as cheap as the ones they bought. That could happen though, that is if you’re not very careful of what you’re buying. Accessories and clothes that are priced Php 200 and below could be very tempting, especially if the design appeals to your taste. I am a sucker for cheap things and I must admit I’ve bought some that do not “live” long unfortunately. This happened many times and I have learned my lesson.

Would you believe that this whole outfit, including the accessories, only cost me Php 300? No kidding. 🙂

Cheap stuff with adorable designs are rare. When I go to bazaars, I would usually roam around the whole place and rummage through pile of clothes and hanged items. Great finds are oftentimes hidden, hence the term ‘finds’.

I always keep in mind the following when purchasing:

1. When I find the design that I want, I check the seams, e.g, armpits, edges, shoulders, neck, etc. They have to be at least properly sewn or can be easily repaired.

2. Look for discolorations, tears, and other damages. Items with damages are not worth your money.

3. Fit them. It is a must to try on the items before paying for them to prevent you from feeling any regret. There are some clothes that only look nice in mannequins or models. Sadly, most people do not possess the same physique.

All things bought from bazaars

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia!

Lastly, make sure you are comfortable in them. Sometimes, no matter how gorgeous an item is, if you don’t feel good in it, it’ll show. For me, comfort is always a must. It does not only make you feel at ease, but it also helps you think of other ways to style/wear it.

To sum this post up, always keep in mind the following, aside from price and design: textile quality, fit, and comfort. Ciao! 🙂

2012 Golden Globe Awards Best Dressed List

Indeed, time flies so fast. It was only last year since I started this blog and vowed to give you guys an update of the Golden Globe Awards. And now, the 2012 Golden Globe Awards has concluded and the winners have been revealed. Check out the list of winners at the bottom of this post.

On to my main subject—the Best Dressed list. I only picked out my top 5 choices though, as there were only a few good ones to choose from. It puzzles me how some Hollywood celebrities make awful choices when it comes to their wardrobe. I mean, hey, they are like the highest paid celebrities in the world and they can’t hire a decent stylist? Not that I’m a good dresser myself, but you understand what I mean, right?

The fifth spot would go to Kate Beckinsale. She chose a Roberto Cavalli gown and matched her look with diamond bracelets and earrings.

My fourth choice would be this Basil Soda dress worn by E! personality and Fashion Police panelist Giuliana Rancic. I’m digging the torso details, which give a conservative yet sophisticated vibe.

This is my third. Oh viva Versace! Haha. Aside from Nicole Kidman looking sexxxay in this dress, I also love how the torso details were constructed. It looks so structured, prolly because of the diagonal bodice cuts you see. I’m not sure though about the gold detailing/studs(?)—they look a bit over-the-top to me, which could be the reason why she kept her accessories minimal. Balance is key.

Second, one perfect example of a celebrity who always gets it right is Angelina Jolie. If you watched last year’s GGAs, then you could recall her looking so stunning in a sparkly green dress. This look of hers is no different. She was jaw-dropping in this year’s Golden Globes, thanks to this Atelier Versace gown. I’m not really a fan of satin or any glossy fabric, but the pop of red won me over.

And my top best dressed gal is no other than my forever girl crush Charlize Theron, who graced the red carpet in Dior Haute Couture gown and vintage Cartier jewels. The way her hair was styled is impeccable. Truly, she looked like a real Grecian or Greek goddess, if I may say.

So there are my best dressed ladies. But I think though there’s one girl who deserves a special mention. I’ve never really seen her as a fashion icon, but her look at last night’s GGAs is refreshing:

Yep, it’s indeed Zooey Deschanel! I loved how she showed her quirky and unique sense of style. This Prada dress complete with black and green embellishments stayed true to her personality.

Cutting-edge

My addiction to everything Leighton Meester has translated into my pictures and styling lately. The first instance I saw her on TV, that is the House, MD episode where she played a blonde teenage girl obsessed with Dr. House, she reminded me of my all-time girl crush Alicia Silverstone. Since then, I have discreetly followed Leighton’s career. ‘Til she became the very popular Blair Waldorf in the series Gossip Girl. I must say, her brunette locks suit her better.

I’m so loving these beauty shots of her for Marie Claire that I used them as peg for my shoot with Sam Lim at Hinge Inquirer Publications’ studio a couple of weeks ago.

So, below is our version.

My hair looks pretty long now, but I didn’t realize I’d still be needing extensions to exactly imitate Leighton’s hair. /FAIL. Nonetheless, I love how the make up complements my outfit.

It’s amazing how two opposite fabrics can make an edgy yet fun statement. The feminine touch given by lace tones down the boldness exuded by snakeskin print.

I’m posting the colored version of the photos above for you to see what the dress actually looks like. 🙂

You can buy this dress at House of Cocco‘s boutiques in SM and Trinoma. Aside from their faux fur collection, they have also released pieces in varied animal prints. Just perfect for the chilly weather, don’t you think?

Music and Prints

I am writing this entry while Pumped Up Kicks is playing. I just cannot work with silence screaming in my ears, you know. Music brings me to my element.

Sam wanted movement shots when we took this layout, but I was too shy (haha!) to move around so he had to play some dance music in the background.

This animal print dress-looking thing is actually a faux fur coat from House of Cocco. The first time I set my eyes on it, I instantly fell in love. The mannequin, which was elevated from the floor, was wearing it when I came in the store, so I had to ask the kind people from Cocco to get it for me.

It truly frustrates me how we can’t wear fur coats, don layers, and wear boots in our country. We’re missing out A LOOOOOOOOOOOT.

Adorable, isn’t it? What’s great about this coat is that it’s not too cozy, just enough to shield the cold, so we can definitely wear this here in the tropics. Besides, it’s December already and it’s the only month we Pinoys can get away with this kind of garment. Cocco has recently released their December/cold season collection so you might want to check out their stores in SM and Trinoma. Gora na!

So what do you think?

Leighton Meester meets Solenn Heussaff

Yesterday was a crazzzy day. I “modeled” and styled for my photographer friend, Sam Lim at Hinge Inquirer Publications office. Plus, I got to see what an actual magazine publication office looks like. I scanned the whole office and I thought, “this is my dream job, my dream workplace.” We’ll see. Maybe next year? 🙂

Going back, I styled for an Esquire-inspired shoot yesterday. It’s actually quite sexy for my taste, but heck, sexy can still look classy when styled the right way. I considered it a challenge. And I do hope the photos will come out looking classy. HAHA. Sam, the pressure is on you, mate!

The peg for Princesz, the model, was Solenn Heussaff’s photos found on Esquire:

I wanted to tone down the sexiness a bit so I chose a nude oversized sweater instead and made the model wear accessories to add some style. Elaine Silva did a great imitation of the make up. Below is a behind-the-scene photo I was able to take while Sam was doing his thing. 😀

After Princesz’s shoot was done, it was my turn. Dun dun dun. I chose a more daring make up, which was inspired by Leighton Meester’s beauty shoot for Marie Claire:

Leighton, why so gorgeoussss!

Below is an outtake of what the make-up artist, Ms. Wilma Esturco, came up with:

I can’t wait to show you, guys, the actual photos! Come back soon . 🙂

One Hyundai Club: Life in Style

Before I started working, I made a list of things I want to acquire in 10 years–a decent SLR and laptop, tons of shoes, piles of make up, my own a house and lot… you know, the typical ones. I also dream of having a car and I’m pretty sure you also have that somewhere in your list. I mean, who doesn’t want want a car?

But of course, we don’t want just a typical, easy-on-the-pocket set of wheels. A conscious buyer would always research first and weigh his options.

One of the fastest-growing automobile distributors here in the Philippines is Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI). From the four dealers HARI started with in 2001, it has expanded its dealership network by appointing 32 more all over the country. To date, HARI has 36 dealers nationwide which help them reach out to more consumers and maintain the honor of being the third best automobile distributor in the country. After almost a decade of carving milestones, HARI launched its One Hyundai Club (OHC), an exclusive club specially established for Hyundai car owners, in December 2010. Next month, OHC is going to celebrate its first year anniversary, and in appreciation of the OHC members’ support, HARI invites all the OHC members, Hyundai automobile owners, and guests (READ: guests!) to a whole day of premium lifestyle experiences on January 14, 2012.

Dubbed as One Hyundai Club: Life in Style, the event will launch the One Hyundai Club Life in Style 2012 Journal, which will contain a preview of the 2012 activities and promos lined up for OHC members. Seeing the line up of activities HARI has in store made me excited for the loyal Hyundai owners (kahit hindi naman ako kasali. epal lang. haha.)!

In the event, guests will get to participate in various activities, such as wardrobe consultation for men and women, makeover session, skin consultation, fashion show, cooking demos, wall climbing, arcade games, and many more—all in one day! Aside from that, there will be hourly raffle draws and grand prizes for OHC club members! How awesome is that. HARI truly knows how to value their customers. 🙂

Admission is FREE but you have to register by logging in at http://ohclifeinstyle.com.ph. When you’re registered, the OHC Life in Style team will send you a printable event pass.

However, the registration application in the OHC microsite is still in the works, so in the meantime, like their Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/onehyundaiclublifeinstyle to get updates regarding the event.

America’s Next Top Model All-Star (Cycle 17) Bits

I have been a fan of America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) since it’s first cycle in 2003. And now that the show has reached its 17th cycle, it thought of bringing the hottest and most controversial contestants it had in the past cycles. I was really excited when I found out that my favorite Allison Harvard has returned. She truly stood out during the show’s 12th cycle. For those who aren’t watching ANTM, Allison is also known as Creepy Chan of Know Your Meme. She first became popular there primarily because of her humongous doe eyes and fascination with blood. Unfortunately, she lost to Teyona Anderson. Now that she’s back, I’m really hoping she’d win this time.

She registers really well in photos. Just look at these:

Last week, she received the first call out for her amazing (somewhat creepy) music video. In the episode, they were tasked to write a song and sing it themselves:

Her song was titled Underwater, which talked about her father’s recent passing.

In other news, Georgina Wilson, one of the Philippines’ most popular models, is set to appear on ANTM’s episode this week. According to her, she will “join as a guest model/stylist” for the show in Greece, wherein the remaining six contestants will be wearing Bench (you heard it right, as in Bench from the Philippines!) Body apparels.

Below are some photos (source):

L-R: Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco, America's Next Top Model coach Jay Manuel, Bench CEO Ben Chan, and Bench Architect Miguel Pastor

Michael Cinco, also a Filipino, seems to be a favorite of the show as ANTM already showcased his work during the previous cycle’s couture episode, which I blogged about here.

Enjoying Greece, eh?

VANS x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

Last week, Connect Agency provided me passes to VANS’ fashion show. I was quite surprised that a brand like VANS will participate in an event such as PFW, blame it on my ignorance. I figured later on that despite its popularity with extreme/action sports, VANS is still categorized under ready-to-wear. Though it is associated with active lifestyle, this does not necessarily mean that brands like VANS cannot be runway worthy. The photos below are proof.

During the penultimate day of the Philippine Fashion Week, VANS Philippines showcased its OTW (Off The Wall) collection.

What I love about the show production is that it stayed true to VANS’ character. The runway was a skate ramp and there were actual skaters and BMX riders displaying crazy stunts! How awesome is that.

Now on to the collection. Below are some photos I was able to shoot. Get ready for some color feast. Hehe. I was on front seat yo! 🙂

VANS Girls

Brent Javier!!! *faints*

I want Dianna Menezes’ abs!

Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero, the host of the night, with their adorable kid, Hunter

And who could best represent VANS? Jhong Hilario. Just look at those moves!

VANS is all about checks and solid colors this season, which are perfect not just for the summer but for the whole year! One awesome thing with apparels like VANS is that anyone can use them at any season. Talk about convenience.

And speaking of convenience, look at what VANS treated us with. Thank you, VANS!

Oxygen x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

I was one of the 50 (55?) bloggers invited by Oxygen to witness their spring/summer 2012 collection. Upon entering the hall, I was amazed at how organized everything was. There is a seat for everyone! Yay!

However, since I was late, I had to situate myself in the farthest corner. It was alright though; people were on their seats so I was still able to take some photos.

Oxygen’s spring/summer collection featured androgynous cuts, lots of blue and green hues, and graphic tees using Marcela Gutierrez’s artwork. I’ve noticed that artworks are becoming a fashion fad.

This one-piece I like!

IMHO, Pauline Prieto, one of my favorite local models, best carries the androgynous look but still manages to look classy.

Danica Magpantay, 2010’s Ford Supermodel of the World, begins and closes the show. She looks way younger in person.

Very wearable! This is one of the reasons why I adore Oxygen. I am a sucker for anything that’s edgy, trendy, but at the same time, wearable. Oxygen gives me all.

Since Oxygen is all about edge, I decided to wear the following for the show:

Top from Oxygen | Ripped leggings from Cocco | Heels from Tiffany

Scarf from Shopaholic at SM Department Store | Gold flower ring from Zeros and Fives | Connector ring from Stylebreak

GUESS x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

I was fortunate enough to receive an invite for Guess’ fashion show. This month’s fashion week is actually featuring all the spring/summer collections, but since it’s Guess’ first time to join PFW, they also included their fall/winter collections.

My camera was a total failure during the show, so I was only able to take a few passable photos for blogging.

A number of celebrity endorsers walked the runway for Guess. Wasn’t able to take photos of them though. Sad 😐 I just hoped EVERYONE was seated throughout the event. But no :s However, I was able to shoot a short video, which I will upload in this post in a bit.

After the event, I had the opportunity of taking a picture with my favorite veejay Sanya Smith, who was the dj of the show (IKR, siya na talaga!). She’s incredibly tall and nice, while I, once again, looked like a hobbit.

Thanks, Katt, for the photo! 😀

And yep, you GUESSED it right! An event like this should not end without taking photos at the photo booth.

Katt, the kaladkarin. She has always been supportive of my fashion endeavors. Thanks, bakla! 🙂

And now on to what I wore to the event:

Thank you, Cocco, for the the lovely dress and biker jacket! Love love!

Styling Your Basic Tee

One of the rules fashionphiles live by is to have the basics–that is, a basic v-neck tee, an LBD, a pair of heels, among others. When you got them, the only things you will need next are creativity and boldness. I used to be the t-shirt-and-jeans kind of girl; I was too scared of trying out new things and experimenting because the last thing I wanted was to solicit stares from people. But I eventually got over it, prolly because I want to be different.  With my petite figure, it’s very difficult to stand out from a crowd, so the only way to be noticed (papansin lang. haha!) is to be slightly deviant. However, I still make sure that I don’t go overboard. That’s when a mixing of the basics and a few statement pieces come into play. With this post, my basic apparel is a basic tee and I’m gonna show you the stuff I styled it with to make it less basic but, at the same time, look effortless.

Was going out to get my Philippine Fashion Week invites in Makati when Dodon and I thought of shooting outfit photos

Basic v-neck shirt from Folded and Hung | Printed skirt from NY Square at SM Department Store

STEP 1: Decide which basic piece to use. In my case, since I was commuting I decided to wear something I can easily move in, like this basic blue tee from Folded and Hung. F&H has the most comfortable but stylish shirts, I must say.

STEP 2: Pair it with a skirt (or your favorite jeans). You can go plain or be more adventurous by choosing printed ones. In this photo, since I’m already wearing a plain-colored top, I decided to break the monotony by going for an animal print skirt. Unfortunately, I’m not anymore a big fan of jeans as I have not found yet the perfect ones. Would you believe I only own a couple of pairs? *crickets crickets*

OPTIONAL: Add a little twist by using a floral printed belt. Print on print!

Fringe necklace from Antler | Bracelets from Landmark

STEP 3: Pile on statement pieces, such as the fringe necklace, to add more edge to your simple look. What are statement pieces? For me, these are accessories that a person never wears on a daily basis. Oftentimes, they come in funky shapes and from odd materials.

Connector ring from Stylebreak | Winged heart and purple bell ring from Zeros and Fives | Feather earrings from St. Francis Square

STEP 4: Last but not the least, wear heels. Heeled shoes or slip-ons always make a look less casual (well, that is if you’re going for a more feminine look). Since I am short, heels always help me look taller, longer, and more sophisticated. Not that I’m saying short girls aren’t sophisticated! I mean, short girls, and even boys, are often labeled as ‘cute.’ No one would like to be stuck in that category! 🙂

Heels from Tiffany (these are obviously my favorite!)

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia

So there you go, you can always look fabulous even if you’re just wearing a t-shirt. All you need is some accessories to spice up your look. The same thing also applies when you’re wearing old or thrifted clothes from bargain shops and ukay-ukay. Styling can make any clothing look expensive if you know what to do or if you are willing to take a risk.

A few years back connector rings or fringe necklaces were nowhere to be found. The first time I saw them I thought they were weird-looking, but eventually when you develop an eye for things unconventional, you’ll find yourself treating these statement pieces like diamonds. They are not only eye-catchers, but also additives. 🙂

Rewind to January, I told myself in a post that I should be able to score invites for the Philippine Fashion Week. And I did! Hurray!  Thanks to Connect Agencie for these fab invites!

Freeway X Manansala Special Tribute and Collection Launch

When I was kid, I dreamt of becoming an artist and fill a whole gallery of my paintings.

I still want to pursue that dream. In fact, what I’m currently interested in is very much related to the arts. Only this time, instead on a canvas, the masterpiece is “painted” on clothes, “painted” being a metaphorical word.

However, not until yesterday, I have never considered using real artworks as clothes. I mean I know it’s possible, but quite honestly it never crossed my mind.

But Freeway thought about it. For years, Freeway has been celebrating the Filipino’s creative talent by featuring the Philippine’s national artists, such as Nick Joaquin (Literature), Ang Kiukok (Visual Arts), Jose Garcia Villa (Literature), Ramon Valera (Fashion Design) and F. Sionil Jose, in their designs and collection. A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail from Freeway, inviting me to attend their collection launch and tribute to Vicente Manansala, a neo-realist artist who was recognized as national artist for visual arts in 1982.

“Manansala consistently worked in the figurative mode, with the exception of a few abstract works. Shunning Amorsolo’s rural idylls, he developed a new imagery based on the postwar urban experience. The city of Manila, through the vision of the artist, assumed a strong folk character. He painted an innovative mother and child, Madonna of the Slums, 1950, which reflected the poverty in postwar Manila. Besides the mother-and child, his subjects included jeepneys, barong-barong, cockfighters, families gathering for a modest meal, and Quiapo women vendors of various goods. The cubist aspect of Manansala’s work rests largely on the geometric facetting of forms and in the shifting and overlapping of planes. But his facets and planes are broader than in original cubism as they bring out larger rhythms. Here and there, he incorporates linear decorative patterns, as in the ironwork curlicues of gates and windows. In his work, he developed the style of transparent cubism which was generally shared by his fellow neo-realists Cesar Legaspi and Romeo Tabuena. Unlike analytical cubism, which arbitrarily fragments and dissects the figure into complex abstract compositions with only clues of the subject remaining, Manansala stayed close to the figure which he simplified to its basic geometric shape. He went through the black-and-white phase of crucifixions and madonna-and-child paintings, but, on the whole, he used color in all its folk vibrancy, sensuous appeal, and evocative power. As a whole, Manansala reinterpreted or indigenized cubism as he drew his themes from the familiar Filipino environment.”

The collection featured 22 designs, including graphic tees and dresses and as well as Manansala watches and bags, some of which I was able to take photos.

Goodies for the Mind x The 32nd Manila International Book Fair

One of the perks of working in a publishing company is you get to attend book fairs. Yay! I’ve always loved books since grade school (thanks to my father) to the point that I plan to build a library in my own house someday. Don’t you just love the smell and feel of book leaves–some are worn out due to over-browsing, while some are crisp and clean. And there’s nothing more beautiful than organized shelves. Oh I sound so geeky.

Anyhoo, yesterday I went to The 32nd Manila International Book Fair held at the SMX, Mall of Asia in Pasay. All the country’s publishing companies participated and you can just imagine my excitement at the sight of on-sale books and magazines! The following are the stuff I got and bought. Just sharing:

I got Discovery Channel Magazine, Newsweek, and Reader’s Digest for free yo! And yes, that is The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I have this affinity to classics so I figured it was high time to buy and catch up on my lit. And hey, I’m studying Anglo-American Literature so it’s pretty much justifiable. I don’t mind being nerdy at all though. 😛

One of the publishing companies I went straight to during the fair is dun dun dun — SUMMIT! There’s gotta be Preview magazines on sale. And lo and behold, meron! 😀 Right then and there, I grabbed three recent issues I missed buying at a very, very low price! *wide grin*~~

Nope, that is not a book or book case (if there is such a thing :P). Sorry, I couldn’t resist this adorable floral pouch/purse from EGG (Exciting Gifts + Goodies) when I passed by their store at the main mall. I think I’m gonna go back, they have the cutest design. Some are quite pricey but we’ll see. I’ll let you guys know. 🙂

Well that’s it for tonight. Happy fiesta to Naga! Viva la Virgen!

MANGO F/W 2011 Fashion Show

Last night, I was invited by Connect Agencie to attend the MANGO Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show at Resorts World, Pasay City.

Prior to the event, I had apprehensions  about going. For one, Resorts World is miles away from Diliman. Second, I dunno how to get there. And lastly, I have no companion. I am yet to overcome my shyness in crowds (especially when surrounded by fashion people), so it’s a must that I bring one or few with me. Thankfully, Katt and Paolo were more than willing to accompany me to the event.  Thanks, guys! Hee~

Paolo, whose Eiffel tower bag amused everyone, and Katt, wearing a striped knit top from House of Cocco (have to say it. Haha)

The dress code for the event was luxe grunge. I didn’t know what luxe grunge is until two days ago. When I first read the invitation, I thought it was luke grunge and tried googling it and nothing came up. I tried deciphering the low-resolution invi and found out that it’s actually ‘luxe’ not ‘luke.’ Kalurkey. Haha. Below is the peg I used and my modified take on it:

Hello me! Sheer top from House of Cocco| Blue bandeau underneath| Cross necklace| Rayon knit skirt from Forever 21| Gladiator heels from Parisian

I didn’t wanna go all dark and too grungy so I decided to don a cream sheer top from House of Cocco  and gold wallet from Prada , and piled on some accessories:

Now on to the fashion show. It was hosted by model and make-up artist Bianca Valerio, whose hair and style we so loved that night:

MANGO launched their Fall/ Winter Collection for 2011, which was styled by the country’s best up-and-coming stylists — Myrr Lao To, Patrick Galang, Teej Nepomuceno, Bianca Santiago-Reinoso of Maven Magazine, and Anna Canlas of Preview Magazine. In no particular order, the following were the styles that I was able to take shots of. Pardon me for the heads peeking at the sides. 🙂

Bloggers at work 🙂

I especially adore this collection.

Animal print galore

One thing I realized from the show is that all you need to look trendy are basic pieces, such as shorts and a white top, and creativity. If you look closely at the collection, most of them can be found in any store but were given more attitude and character by creative styling. With this, I take my hat off to  all the personalities who styled the models for producing a really mind-blowing show.

Speaking of mind-blowing, I was finally able to meet Camille Co of Coexist whom I interviewed last summer. She’s really nice and sweet, and incredibly tall! I swear I looked like a hobbit. Ehe~

Aside from meeting and seeing my favorite fashion bloggers and media personalities, MANGO also gave away some goodies! Yay! Who does not want a free MANGO animal print pouch and Pond’s x Nivea items?? 😀

I am one happy blogger. Hee~

And of course, we cannot leave the venue without any remembrance, celebrity style. 😛

Congratulations Connect Agencie for organizing an awesommmmme show! Thank you for making my first fashion event coverage memorable. Until the next one! 🙂

P.S.

How do you like my fresh-from-the-beach tan? 😀

Florals + Stripes = Happiness

Hiiii! 😀

Spamming your screen with lots of florals and stripes. The top is actually a crop top. Bought this somewhere outside Divisoria Mall. I couldn’t resist the cuteness of the heart patch so I bought it. Who would like to guess how much this costs? 😛

Boater hat and lace bag from Cocco

The maxi skirt is actually a maxi dress. I wanted a different top so I just folded it inward and fastened it with a handwoven belt to hold the dress and make it look like a real maxi skirt. Cool huh? 🙂

I was trying to make my hair look messy here. FAIL. :-/

Thanks to Haydee Suarez for editing the last two photos!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the love and support before I am denied the chance. Recent events made me realize how precious life is, and how short it is to waste it on hatred and regret. I may have not gotten everything I wanted , wished, and prayed to God every night, little blessings still manage to find me and I am grateful for that. But somehow it also makes me sad not having to properly recognize those kind people who, in their own ways, lent their hands when I needed one. I hope I’m not too late. Thank you. 🙂

I’m planning on a new blog giveaway so stay tuned. Follow me on Twitter for the announcement!

Peace x Love

BOLD

I’d like to share my view today on photography and modeling professionalism. I know I’m not a member of any professional organization of both fields, but I think being a free person entitles me to my own opinion.

Photography is rapidly becoming a worldwide hobby, and so is modeling for these hobbyists or soon-to-be photographers. That’s good because photography is an art, above all else. The sad thing is many photographers and models are not fully aware of their responsibilities  as a photographer/subject and the value of professionalism. I am practically new in photography modeling, been doing it for exactly a year now, but I always try giving my best in every shoot. I bring extra outfits, pairs of shoes, makeup kit, accessories, flat iron, and other essential things, even if the organizer says that there is a designated HMUA (hair and makeup artist) and wardrobe stylist. So that in case the HMUA or the stylist doesn’t arrive, the show will still go on. I learned this from watching modeling shows, and this trait, according to the show, is what makes a professional model, aside from arriving on time of course (which I sometimes fail at, forgive me).

Hat from Cocco| Dress from Mint

Unfortunately, there are many photographers, pros and aspirants alike, are unprofessional. They take joy at taking pictures of others and yet when asked for the product, they fail to give you anything. Or sometimes they give two or three shots, and they vanish. It’s slightly discouraging, especially when the model has done her part of the deal. I believe that when you made a commitment, even if it’s an unpaid gig or the model is unpleasant, it is your job to make it happen regardless of how busy you are. That’s professionalism.

Pardon me if the words above are not the usual blythe and jolly me. I just felt the need of pointing it out because apparently, many have already forgotten the value of commitment and professionalism.  Traditionally, the photographer should give a copy of photos taken (inclusive of the raw and edited files) to the model, especially if the shoot is done on an ex-deal or TFCD/TFP basis, thru print, CD, or e-mail as soon as the photographer is done post-processing the photos. And by soon, I mean soon, not months, or years!

PRADA wallet| Multi-colored bracelet from Cocco|Floral ring from Quirky Finds| Vintage ring

I was finally able to use the Prada wallet I won from AVA! 😛

Now going back to happy me, these lovely photos were taken by Sam Lim, whom I met a couple of weeks ago. He is a photographer (obviously) for Hinge Inquirer Publications, a lifestyle magazine. Like his Facebook page and visit/follow his website to see his other works. If I were a client, I would highly recommend this dude. He knows his stuff and is very professional. 🙂

The biggest surprise of all was the MUA. Boy, was she uber young! Ana Patricia has been a makeup artist since she was 17. Imagine that! And she hasn’t had any professional training; she learned every thing from Youtube. Thank God for technology! Like her Facebook page to see her other works. 🙂

Who Says Cosplay Is Just for Teens?

Last week, I was invited to a uniquely themed birthday party. I was told that it would be a kiddie party generally. I know, I know– it’s a bit unlikely that I covered a seven-year-old gal’s party, but hey, not every couple organizes a cosplay-inspired birthday party! For one, it’s very timely. Otaku–a Japanese term referring to people with interests in anime, manga, and video games– are rapidly becoming prominent today, hence the frequent cosplay events we see here and there. They have also greatly influenced the present fashion; the most popular of which is the lolita fashion, albeit inspired by Victorian clothing. Secondly, I was told there will be a fashion show of the guests in costume. As soon as I heard the word ‘fashion,’ I instantly agreed. HAHAHA.

The party was held at Celebrity Sports Club in Capitol Hills. The whole party was organized (costume and set design included) by a whole team of professional theater practitioners and students from the University of the Philippines. Just look at how they transformed the place and event, and you’ll know rightaway how skillful they are. 🙂

Meet Nina, the birthday girl, in her Tinker Bell costume. Happy 7th birthday! 🙂

The doting parents in their maid and butler costumes. Cuuute! 🙂

The decorations look nice, don’t you think? Aside from the tasty food served to the guests, they also got to enjoy the following:

NAIL ART!!! I so wanted one, but I was so busy roaming around. 😛

Face and body paint. This kid is brave! 🙂

Nina’s birthday had two fashion shows–one for the kids and another for the young-at-hearts. Check out their outfits:

Isn’t she adorable? It’s not obvious in the photo but she’s wearing violet gladiator flats.

If I remember it right, this girl won the best in poses award. 🙂

The kid from The Incredibles, which I haven’t watched yet. Haha

Ninjas from the Akatsuki group in the anime series Naruto 🙂 They won the best in costume award for the boys category.

The new dynamic duo–Batman and Harry. LOL. Batman won the best in poses (boys category) by the way. 🙂

And of course, the birthday girl closes the first show.

The most interesting thing about this birthday party is that the parents actively participated in the fashion show:

The sister as Eucliwood Hellscythe.

Nina as Zelda

Adorable 🙂

Summer Girl

I just had the most stressful day of my life. Three days from now is the book launching of the hardest manuscript I ever handled, and we were only able to transmit the proofs for printing today. Oh, the joys of being an editor!

I’m a little relieved though that the printing office will start working on it as as early as tonight. I’m crossing my fingers that everything will work out fine. Maybe it’s time to avail that massage in New Manila, yes?

I’m glad the sky stopped pouring its heart out. Aside from my workload, this past week’s weather was so gloomy and irritating. Who wouldn’t feel that way when you’re living on the fourth floor but the flat is  flooded! Amazy crazy! Besides, I only like the rain when I’m about to sleep. 🙂 I’m a summer girl, you know. I’ve always loved the sun and the trends for that season, like there’s always a reason to smile and be happy, hence the photo below:

Bring Me to the Woods

It was about to rain when we took these photos in Tagaytay. I’ve been dying to wear corsets because they’re so Victorian and I happened to have fascination with British royalties, hence the course I’m taking at University of the Philippines-Diliman. Imagine my delight when I learned that I passed their admission exams for a master’s degree in English Studies: Anglo-American Literature! After six years of waiting, I am finally enrolled in my dream school. My dad so wanted to be an Isko as well (Isko/Iska, I learned, is a name for students enrolled in U.P.) but due to inevitable circumstances, he was forced to study in Ateneo de Naga (also my alma mater). Nevertheless, I can still say my college experience was not mediocre.

The above photo was taken just by the side of the road. Nonoy had this wonderful idea of using only a chair and the nature as the props for the photo. The result is quite nice don’t you think?

Rainbow Fun

The rainy month has arrived but it doesn’t mean we won’t have any more sunny days and beach adventures. And what could be the most perfect outfit for those but a colorful maxi dress!

Since I discovered here that maxi dresses are not just for the statuesque ones, I began to confidently pull them off (or I’d like to think so).
