Tampa Bay Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017

While browsing the web a couple of weeks ago, I found out that cities in the US like Tampa and Orlando have their own fashion week. I used to cover Philippine Fashion Week so discovering that was pretty exciting. I hurriedly emailed the organizers of Tampa Bay Fashion Week about the possibility of gaining access to this exclusive event. Luckily, they still got two seats left for the September 23 runway show so Chad and I got to see the new designs to be released in spring/summer 2017 (Thanks, Nancy!).

Every year since 2008, proceeds from the shows go to charity. This year, the beneficiary of #TBFW2016 is PACE Center for Girls, an organization that helps girls and young women build a better future through education, training, and counseling.

Quite a number of well-known brands and designers participated in last week’s show. Check out the galleries down below to view their spring/summer offering!

Trend Clothes Co: Tampa’s Newest Fashion Boutique

Moving to Tampa, I knew I had to work double-time to establish my name as a life + style blogger. Unlike Manila where partnering with bloggers has become the norm, companies in Tampa lay their money down more on traditional advertising like television and print. So when I received an invitation from Trend Clothes Co — an up-and-coming fashion boutique in Tampa, I was really excited. The launch featured a runway show of this month’s current line and pop-up shop which also included a showcase from Chloe and Isabel, a lifestyle and jewelry brand.

Louis Vuitton Launches First Perfume Collection

A couple of weeks ago, I finally reached the peak of cabin fever. When I was living in Manila I was always out and about so I’m not used to being stuck at home 7 days a week. Fortunately while lurking the interwebs, I met Cristina, a fellow Filipina whose parents are coincidentally from Bicol–my hometown. Because of that and our mutual admiration for a Filipina celebrity, we clicked right away and she invited me to Louis Vuitton’s perfume collection launch.

Earn & Travel with OLX Summer #Naksperience Promo

As a lifestyle blogger, I receive quite a number of gifts from PR companies, shops, and what not. But trends  come and go, and sometimes I don’t get to use those gifts anymore. I’m not the type of person who throws away things easily so they usually just rack up more space in my closet. I’m the most disorganized person on the planet and it could get quite frustrating sometimes combing through piles and piles of unused clothes just to find that one shirt I wanted to wear. So what’s a person like me to do? I sell these clothes online.

Recently I sold half of my used and unused tops, skirts, and dresses through various online platforms. Aside from Facebook and Instagram, I use websites like OLX to sell my stuff. They’re easy to use and less chances of being duped by bogus buyers and sellers because the staff verifies each account/item being sold. If you are not registered with OLX yet, you’re in luck because you might be one of the people who could win a shopping spree or a trip to Philippines’ top tourist destinations through OLX’s the ultimate #NAKSPERIENCE summer promo. Old users can join, too!

Get Intensely Close at Closeup Forever Summer 2016

Just one month more and it’s the most exciting season of the year again! Aside from spontaneous road trips with friends and wearing your fave bikinis, summer is also a time for colorful music festivals. No Pinoy on social media has probably not heard of Closeup Forever Summer, one of the most anticipated events during summer. It is also the first and biggest social-media powered music festival in the country, having brought EDM kings Martin Garrix and Alesso, and Aussie indie pop duo Julia & Angus Stone (my fave!!!) in the past.

It was a short event. We just ate mostly. Haha!

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. During the media launch, Closeup revealed that this year is going to be Closeup Forever Summer’s last year. But of course, they won’t say goodbye without a bang. For the last time, they are bringing in the number 1 DJ in the world, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike to give you an experience that you won’t forget.

The rest of the lineup will be revealed one by one through social media so make sure to follow @CloseupPHL on Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter to stay in the loop. Early bird VIP tickets can be purchased for only P2,000 each until March 15 at SMtickets.com. Starting March 16 though, VIP tickets will be sold at the original price of P4,000. For SVIP table reservations, you may contact Kim at 09176898888.

Have you bought your tickets yet? Share with us how you plan to make this #CloseupForeverSummer the best one yet using the hashtag #NoworNever!

#LuxNights with Solenn Heussaff

I love being a woman at this point in our history because there’s no limit to what we can achieve. We can vote, dress however we want, and get careers that fit our skills. I know we still have a long way to go, but looking back I can’t help but feel proud of the progress we’ve made.

7

Balancing our career with our personal life can be quite exhausting sometimes though. That is why it is important for us women to take a breather once in a while. Otherwise, we’d turn into a monster, especially if you are a moody person like me lol. Sometimes, getting a much-needed pampering after all that hard work is just what we need to calm our nerves. You don’t even have to go that far–you can turn your bathroom into a relaxing sanctuary by stocking on scented candles and bath essentials, like LUX.

8

Last week, I was invited by LUX Philippines to join them for a night with Solenn Heussaff. I haven’t seen her in person but I am a fan of her art so I couldn’t say no. Plus, LUX was launching Solenn’s online film, which demonstrates how busy women can bathe with perfume by using LUX’s line of body wash.

9

The collection is composed of four scents–White Impress, Magical Spell, Soft Touch, and Love Forever. During the interview, Solenn and another guest, international model Kelsey Merritt, revealed they love Magical  Spell. The great thing about this line is that it has something for every mood. Maybe I was feeling girly that day that’s why I prefer Soft Touch.

10

Bathing with LUX is very easy to do. After choosing your preferred scent, you can indulge by following this ritual:

With the new LUX Perfumed Bath Collection, every busy day will now be celebrated with an indulgent #LUXnight that every woman deserves. Check out Solenn’s film here:

Shop Your Way to the UK with Marks & Spencer

Ever since finishing my English degree, London has always been my dream destination. I know how horrible their weather is based on what I’ve read and saw in films, but I want to go there to experience the culture. There’s just so many things to see and so much to learn. So imagine my envy when I found out that Marks & Spencer is actually sending two lucky people to the UK! *tears*

DSC_0658

Unfortunately I found out about it too late. Last week, I was invited instead to witness the grand draw of Marks & Spencer’s Shop Your Way to the UK at Greenbelt. Apparently this promo has been going on for months already. On November 5, they chose two M&S Loyalty Members who will get two roundtrip tickets plus cash allowance. I would honestly give everything to be in the winner’s shoes:

1st Prize: 1 winner of Round Trip tickets for two via Philippine Airlines Business Class plus $2,000 pocket money

2nd Prize: 1 winner of Round Trip tickets for two via Philippine Airlines Economy Class plus $1,000 pocket money

DSC_0657

Before the winners were announced, we were treated to a wonderful performance of the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir. They sang beautiful Christmas songs, which excited me so much. I always get teary-eyed when I hear Christmas carols, especially the Tagalog ones. It reminds me of home and love. I always look forward to the holidays because that’s when I get to spend a lot of time with my family. 🙂

IMG_4335

After their soulful renditions of classic Christmas songs came the announcement of the winners. The first prize went to Nathaniel Caballero while Anita Oranga bagged the second prize. Such lucky people! Hopefully soon I’d get to visit the country as well. Congratulations, guys! Enjoy the UK! 🙂

Nu Skin Philippines ageLOC Expo: A New, Beautiful You Awaits

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and wished that you won’t age? I do, sometimes. Being young has a lot of benefits, otherwise we won’t have a bevy of anti-aging products lined up in department stores. There’d be also no need for makeup. Unfortunately, we do not live in Utopia. Each day, our cells age, causing fine lines and other unsightly skin conditions to appear. This is further exacerbated by pollution, poor lifestyle, and unhealthy eating habits. This is why skin care companies keep on creating products that help slow down the aging process.

IMG_3781

Last week, I was invited by Nu Skin Philippines to check out their ageLOC Expo in Ortigas. You might remember that I once did a review of their facial scrub and toner in 2011, and I loved those products. During that time, Nu Skin is a pretty young direct selling company so supplies were scarce, prompting me to use other cleansers when the ones I had ran out. Unlike other direct selling companies operating in the country, Nu Skin focuses on health and wellness. They regularly collaborate with more than 75 scientists in order to come up with effective products.

DSC_0526

Recently, Nu Skin has introduced their newest line of products. Called ageLOC Transformation, this complete skin care system cleanses, purifies, renews, moisturizes, and reveals younger looking skin in eight ways. The lineup is composed of the ageLOC Gentle Cleanse & Tone, ageLOC Radiant Day SPF 22, ageLOC Future Serum, and ageLOC Transforming Night, which I was able to test. I must say I was really impressed with their Cleanse & Tone product. The staff told me that it is water-based, which means you do not have to wash your face with water when using it. Yes, it’s that convenient!

DSC_0523

Aside from the Transformation system, I also got to try their ageLOC Edition Galvanic Spa System II. Nu Skin also carries the ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa and the Tru Face products. The Galvanic Spa System is an at-home spa that is small, smart and powerful. Since every part of our body is different, the device features different application settings for the face, scalp, and body. It has patented self-adjusting currents and interchangeable conductors to enable the user to alter the settings. For best results and optimal performance, Nu Skin highly recommends that you use their specially formulated products with the device to facilitate the transport of the products’ key ingredients to your skin. The ageLOC Galvanic Spa Facial Gels helps remove impurities, restoring the skin’s natural vibrancy. After experiencing the Galvanic Spa System, my skin has never felt so rejuvenated and supple. Results, however, may vary so the staff told me that they recommend using Galvanic Spa twice a week.

grid

Me trying out the ageLOC Edition Galvanic Spa System II

On the other hand, the Tru Face Line Corrector helps smoothen fine lines and wrinkles. The Galvanic Spa Body Shaping Gel helps reduce the appearance of cellulite, and the Nutriol Hair Fitness Treatment promotes healthy, abundant-looking hair. I felt I was in a real spa when I tested the products. As expected, they were gentle on the skin and smelled really good.

IMG_3772

After the “royal” treatment, I proceeded to the main hall and did more tests. This time I wanted to know my body age as well as the number of skin caratenoids in my body. Apparently, I am a very unhealthy woman based on the results, which means I have to take my vitamins and supplements seriously. Haha! It was quite depressing, but the bright side is I now know what to do to improve my health.

IMG_3777

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Nu Skin Philippines by following them on Facebook (/nuskinpils) and Twitter (@nuskinph) or visit www.nuskin.com.ph. Have you tried any of their products? Share your experience in the comments section below! 🙂

Feminine Hygiene 101

Perhaps one of the most avoided topics women are so ‘careful’ of talking about is feminine hygiene. No wonder a lot of people are misinformed. It is only through dialogues and right research we get to learn things, so why be ashamed?

IMGP2635

That’s why I’m usually thankful when I’m invited to events that raise awareness about body care. A few days ago, I was invited by ADP Pharma Corporation to the naFlora Feminine Wash event. An Ob-Gyne was invited to talk to us regarding some myths and questions about feminine care that we dare not ask our friends. Through her, I learned that the secretions females experience–when clear–are perfectly normal and that it’s actually the body’s way of maintaining the V’s normal pH. However, as we grow older the pH level changes and using just a single kind of feminine wash for all stages of womanhood can actually do more harm than good. Irritation can occur, especially if you’re fond of wearing tight-fitting clothes.

IMGP2644

To cater to these changes, ADP Pharma Corporation has formulated 3 variants of naFlora feminine wash specifically for everyday use, postpartum care, and menopausal women. These variants are named the following:
1. naFlora protect – This variant has a pH level of 3.5 to 4.5 that is perfect for everyday use and those having their period. naFlora protect contains lactic acid and tea tree extract that prevent vaginal irritations. Girls in their puberty stage/teens do not produce much lactic acid so this is perfect.
2. naFlora restore – Women who have delivered their little bundle of joys would often experience pain and swelling in the area down there, which could lead to infection. naFlora restore prevents this by bringing back the natural acidic environment and help relieve irritation usually experienced during vaginal infections.
3. naFlora moisture – Last but not the least, ADP is the only company that offers a wash for menopause. It contains lactic acid, chamomile extract and additional moisturizers that help soothe and protect the feminine area against dryness and irritation. It has a pH level of 6.o to 7.5. This particular product is endorsed by Ms. Boots Anson-Roa.

IMGP2662

During the event, the Ob-Gyne debunked an old myth that menstrual blood is dirty. I was quite surprised with this revelation as I grew up believing that myth. However, according to her, our period can cause the natural flora to be less acidic, making it prone to bad bacteria and infection. I decided to use naFlora protect during my period to see how my body would react to it. True to its promise, the product is very mild and I never felt uneasy after use, which is my body’s usual reaction whenever I use products it doesn’t like.

Tip: Sanitary napkins should be changed every 2 hours; pantyliners every 4 hours.

image007

After the informative talk, I and the rest of the bloggers were treated to snacks and a mani-pedi. While having ourselves pampered, we had a game and I won a gift certificate! Yipee! I’m not the luckiest person when it comes to contests so I was really surprised when they called my name. Such a happy day! Thank you, naFlora and ADP!  🙂

IMGP2656

You can find naFlora feminine wash and its variants in all Mercury Drugstores nationwide. If you have inquiries regarding the product/s, do not hesitate to contact them by email: naflorafemwash(at)gmail(dot)com or naflorafemwash(at)yahoo(dot)com 🙂

Bicol’s First Art x Fashion Magazine, AGORA, Is Launching Soon!

I lived in Naga City, Bicol for almost two decades. In all those years I’ve seen and met many people who are not only intelligent but are also very creative. Although Naga is one of the most prosperous cities in the region, there seemed to be a lack of venues for the thriving art community to showcase their work. Restaurants and bars have appeared like mushrooms in different parts of the city the last time I visited, but not once did I see a cafe filled with books, films, art pieces, or anything educational that the youth can actually learn from. Most people are either online or at a crowded place like Starbucks-Magsaysay, while only a handful of people would visit the art show at Avenue Square or attend the book launch of a nationally recognized Bicolano poet.

I’ve always had this dream for my hometown about a platform which my fellow Bicolanos could utilize to show their work. So when an old classmate of mine who is so passionate in promoting FIlipino culture and fashion pushed through with the idea, I was glad that finally that dream can now be realized.

10602982_10202837340874812_205889600_n

A Greek word meaning ‘a public place’, AGORA “was formed with the desire to showcase the best of Bikol and cultivate a sense of panache and a forward-thinking taste among homegrown talents with a local and global audience. AGORA Magazine is a non-profit online magazine dedicated to become a platform for up-and-coming Bikolano artists in the fields of Photography, Fashion, Beauty, Music, Literature, Film, Visual Arts such as Painting and Illustration, Theatre, Industrial and Interior Design and other fields of creativity.”

Here are a few of my favorites among the teasers posted on the magazine’s Facebook page:

The maiden release, called ‘The Paper Issue’, “looks into the paper as a weapon, as a tool, as a means for expressing creativity; and as the translated ‘papel’, we look into the roles we play in cultivating Bikol Art into a global, social community of acquired tastes.”

The best thing about AGORA magazine is it’s crowdsourced. If you are a Bicolano artist dying to show your talent to the online public, shoot the team an email at agoramagazinebikol(at)gmail(dot)com. AGORA Magazine is a tri-monthly magazine and accepts contributions in the form of Feature Articles, Fashion and Beauty Editorials, Photo Journals, Illustrations and Art Installations, Essays and Critiques

Take Me to The Brow Studio

Perhaps one of the most important parts of our face is the eyebrows. They frame our face and can make us look young or old, depending on the shape. So, it is a must that we groom them properly. Unfortunately a lot of us do not know how to do it that we sometimes tend to get tweezer-happy. We have to be very careful with overplucking our brows because it can cause them not to grow again.

IMGP2609

I was born with thick, black brows. While I never had any difficulty shaping them since they looked fine as they are, my main problem is they can get pretty bushy if not maintained. When this happens, I let professionals do it for me. So when a friend of mine invited me to try out The Brow Studio’s services at the SM North The Block branch, I agreed without hesitation.

Brow Studio (2)

IMGP2634

When I got there, I was greeted by the lovely interiors. Yellow and violet are two of my favorite colors–they remind me so much of ice cream hehe (mango + ube, anyone?). I’ve always been curious how threading works so while waiting, I watched some of the staff do it on a few bloggers.

IMGP2615

The Brow Studio is owned by Kristine Rochelle “Teng” Tobillo (pictured above), who opened her first branch in Eastwood on November 10, 2010. The Brow Studio now has 10 branches nationwide. It is the first FIlipino specialty salon to cater to eyebrow grooming needs, according to Ms. Teng. She sat with us to discuss some tidbits about her salon and what makes her salon different from the others–one of which is the Brow Rx. It was fascinating to me because I have visited several salons that offer eyebrow threading services and they do not have this.

Discussing the Brow RX

Before the threading process, the skilled staff at The Brow Studio would assess what eyebrow shape is suitable for the client’s facial structure and features. Afterwards, they would show the client’s perfect brow and which one needs rehabilitation. Fortunately, my brows did not need much shaping because apparently, according to one of the staff, I’ve shapen them correctly already. Yay for me! The only things they needed to fix are the small stray hairs and the point where my brows should begin, so yeah–threading time!

IMGP2621

Did I mention that The Brow Studio only uses 100% imported anti-bacterial cotton thread? Also they would always check up on the clients to see if the pain is manageable. Luckily for me, I’m quite used to waxing and threading so the pain was tolerable.

IMGP2616a

See the difference? My brows are now more defined and less ‘sabog’. It felt like my whole face lit up after the procedure. What do you think? Afterwards, the staff showed me how to care for my eyebrows and which side I should maintain using the Brow Rx.

IMGP2628

Thank you, Tin! She advised me not to wet the threaded area for at least 4 hours after the procedure. It’s easy to see growing hair after so it’s best to pluck them to maintain the shape.

IMGP2629

We also had a small chat with Ms. Teng after the event. I was really curious about the yellow stick she held out earlier so she told us more about it. Seeing that her customers’ main complaint is their thin brows, Ms. Teng decided to create this product called Brow Vitamins that help grow thicker brows.

Brow Vitamins

While I do not need it, my relatives and friends have genetically thin brows and they always had to use pencils to make them look thicker. I’ve seen so many hair-grower products but some of them don’t seem to really work. However, Ms. Teng’s customers at The Brow Studio swore to the effectiveness of the product. She even showed us before and after pictures that her clients posted on Facebook! You can get the Brow Vitamins for only P425.

If you are interested to try their service, here is menu:

They also offer tattoo, waxing, and IPL services. Afford na afford, yes? And here’s a list of branches you can go to if you need a quick eyebrow fix:

Look Good, Feel Great: My Happy Spa Day with Watsons

How many of us never made a stop at Watsons? Watsons practically has everything our body needs—from personal grooming to health essentials—that it’s impossible not to frequent the place. I buy my face and body care necessities from Watsons most of the time, so naturally when they invited me to a spa party at Ki Neo Day Spa, BGC I immediately said yes.

1

Last Thursday, I and a few handpicked bloggers were chosen to attend the Bath to Basics campaign event wherein we were treated with a full body scrub, massage, and shopping challenge later in the day. Prior to the main affair, former model and image consultant Olen Lim gave us some tips on how to care for one’s body by following the correct bath regimen. The highlight of the talk is the bath rituals and myths we have heard (and followed). Ms. Lim provided scientific reasons for some of the myths, which our mothers and grandmas couldn’t. Everything made sense to me afterwards.

2

Filipinos are such shower-happy people, many of us even take a bath twice a day. On top of that, we have these rituals we can’t seem to un-follow. But why is that? According to Watsons, this habit of pampering our bodies helps set our mood for the day: A good morning shower activates our brains and relaxes our bodies. Archimedes’ eureka moment is a perfect example.

With this in mind, Watsons launched the Bath to Basics campaign, which “aims to educate people about the importance of maintaining or boosting their bathing habits to achieve better health and skin”. Because we never grow any younger, Ms. Lim suggested that it is better to have good grooming habits when we’re in our twenties, so that when we reach our forties, the stresses of the past years would not take a toll on our skin.

3

The most-awaited part came after the talk—SPA PARTY! It was my first time to experience a full body scrub in all honesty, so I was a bit nervous because I did not know what to expect. Plus having another female person see me in all my naked glory scared me. Lol, sounds silly I know. But I survived! I was partnered with the very pretty Angel Nepomuceno of Lush Angel. We were treated with a massage, full body scrub, shower and some delicious tea afterwards. I wish I can show you a spa selfie but alas, I do not have one since I tremendously enjoyed the experience, I almost fell asleep!

4

Next was a shopping challenge. This thrilled me the most because who doesn’t love shopping? The challenge was to use a Php 1000 worth of gift certificate at a Watsons store, and the person who gets to buy the most number of items will win a prize. Being the competitive person that I am, I bought everything that I could fit in a 1k GC. I was able to buy 15 units of Watsons products. Not bad eh? Unfortunately, someone was able to buy 20 units so I lost. Haha #sadface #tears #betterlucknexttime.

5

It’s been a couple of years since my last event but I am so happy I attended this one. I have been a customer of Watsons for a really long time now, it’s nice to go and write about something I truly believe in. The best thing about this store is the customer-friendly prices of the products. Moreover, they offer promos frequently to customers so customers can maximize the benefits of caring for their bodies. Today Watsons is giving away FREE 750 mL Limited Edition Hand Soap when you buy any combined bath products (bodywash, deo, body scrub and body soap) worth Php 500. SM Advantage card holders like me can get more discounts by just presenting our cards. With just Php 400 worth of products, we can already get the Hand Soap for free! Promo is available at any SM Store Beauty Section.

More deals and offers are available at the following Bath to Basics activation booths: SM Fairview (July 17-22), Festival Mall (July 24-29), SM North Edsa (July 31-August 6), and SM Manila (August 14-19).

Our body is our sanctuary so it is a must that we care for it. Having a bath regimen only means that you love your body. It’s not about being vain, rather it’s about appreciating and loving yourself. After all, they say you cannot give love if you cannot give it to yourself. Charing!

Selfie Your Way to Japan with KATE Tokyo’s #kateselfietojapan

Last month, I was invited by Kanebo Philippines to witness the launch of their KATE Tokyo line of products in the Philippines. Kanebo has been in the Philippines for more than 7 years. Their best sellers include their no-smell lipsticks made with the best kind of wax, eyebrow palettes, and Freshel skin care line, which I absolutely love.

BeFunky_IMGP2250.jpg

Kanebo’s BB Creams have sold over 10 million units in Japan alone, so it’s not a surprise that they are hailed as the #1 brand in BB creams and that their relatively new line KATE Tokyo has been met with the same reaction. Since its launch in 1997, KATE has been constantly regarded as the #1 makeup brand in Japan.

IMGP2251

Makeup products can be quite scary and overwhelming for non-professionals and newbies. KATE Tokyo has made it its mission to reach out to all makeup aficionados, so they created the concept of “no more rules” enabling people to enjoy their products without hesitation. Eye makeup has always been my waterloo and I’m especially thankful for KATE Tokyo products, like the spotlighting shadow (see above), that make the work easier–details of which can be seen in my next post. For now, check out some of the pictures from the event after the jump:

ZALORA to Launch Marketplace (Press Release)

The online fashion retailer to offer independent fashion designers and sellers access to their millions of customers

ZALORA, Asia’s leading online fashion destination, has announced it will be launching ZALORA Marketplace in the first half of this year. With over 15 million visits per month to ZALORA, Marketplace will give independent fashion designers and sellers the opportunity to instantly expand their business to ZALORA’s massive customer base and will greatly increase the product assortment available to customers.

ZALORA Marketplace will allow vendors from all over Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to create their own branded storefront within the ZALORA site, which will be run and maintained by the seller with support from a dedicated ZALORA account manager. They will also benefit from a huge increase in brand exposure through free online marketing and advertising that will be part of ZALORA’s overall marketing campaigns.

zalora

Set to be one of the most beneficial fashion Marketplaces in Southeast Asia for independent fashion designers and sellers, customers across the region will also benefit from hundreds to potentially thousands of new products and brands available online without having to visit different shopping portals.

“The upcoming launch of ZALORA Marketplace is an exciting development for the fashion industry in Southeast Asia as whole,’ said Paulo Campos, Managing Director, ZALORA Philippines. “We are launching a platform where up and coming brands, boutiques or designers can sell their products alongside our internationally renowned brands, to an already highly established and loyal customer base. We have over 15 million visits to our ZALORA sites per month; for an independent fashion seller to have instant access to this kind of audience is a previously unheard of opportunity.”

A dedicated and localized ZALORA Fashion Scout force is currently searching for and recruiting potential brands and designers to come on board for launch.

“We have found some incredible and exciting designers and sellers so far,” said Campos. “We are really looking forward to working with them, nurturing them at this stage of the journey and seeing how far their business can expand through Marketplace.

LittleBlackDress_0

There has never been a better time than now to bring fashion retail businesses online, especially throughout Asia Pacific where the internet population is already over 200 million people and growing steadily. According to research* around 11%-15% of total global retail sales will be conducted through online channels by 2020, with Asia Pacific accounting for a very large portion of that. For fashion designers and sellers looking to expand their sales and reach, online is the only place to be.”

ZALORA Marketplace is currently open to applications from potential sellers and details can be found here.

Chicken Charlie Press Launch + Giveaway! (CLOSED)

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited by Chicken Charlie to their third anniversary press launch. Since we are absolute chicken fanatics, we said we’ll go! And we didn’t regret that decision despite the venue being miles away.

05790017

When we arrived, they immediately served us their famous chicken drums and wings basket in both soy garlic and spicy. It was heaven! Plus the staff are very kind. 🙂

88920006

What I love about Chicken Charlie is that they support local products. I should also tell you that Chicken Charlie is proudly Pinoy. And what’s more admirable than Pinoy businesses supporting Pinoy products? Part of their menu is Bayani Brew, a tea drink made by the nanays (mothers) at Gawad Kalinga’s Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan. If you don’t know what Gawad Kalinga’s mission is, scroll down to the footer and click the Gawad Kalinga widget.

05790025

Bayani Brew is a very delicious (and nutritious) drink made from lemongrass, pandan leaves, and calamansi. And when you drink it with Chicken Charlie’s new Charlie’s Signature Burger, you’ll forget your name. I kid, but seriously, it’s mouthwatering, even Chad couldn’t stop telling me how heavenly the burger is.

05790023

We also had a chat with the Chicken Charlie owner, Ifore Yu, who is only 28 years old mind you! I didn’t actually expect him to be there so it’s a plus. He told us he didn’t have any cooking background, but he does know a lot about business management and according to him, the heart to work and improve–which is very important in any business.  And I personally think he’s doing a great job in managing the stores because if you check out the branches, you won’t even notice that Chicken Charlie has been around for only three years. The stores’ interior design is all done by Ifore Yu’s wife. They celebrated Chicken Charlie’s birthday on April 20.

Fashion for a Cause: CustomAid

Hi, everyone! Last week I told you about our experience with kids from the Smokey Mountain, a landfill in Metro Manila. We got to the place and met the people through our Norwegian friend-slash-model Marthe Olsen, who came to the Philippines to do volunteer charity work. I can’t help but admire this woman, who at 21 years old already knows what she wants to do in life. Aside from volunteering for Gawad Kalinga, she is also spearheading CustomAid, a lifestyle company focusing on fashion, health and HELP. Here’s what she wants to share to all of you fashionistas who want to do some good:

Right now, our aim is to start Yoga & Creative workshops at Gawad Kalingas livelihood center in Smokey Mountain—to help the less privileged children to get focused, creative and artistic. We had many kind souls donating us their fashion that were dusting down in their closet, so that the fashion can be passed on to someone else. Maybe that someone is YOU? All profits will go towards our charity project; each item we sell will go to a whole gym outfit, t-shirt and pants. So help a child to get dressed while getting new fashion for your closet, and supporting a good cause! Contact Marthe on marthe.olsen@customaid.org for more info, clothing donations or inquiries. Blessings to all of you!

Here are some of the awesome stuff CustomAid is selling, modelled by Marthe:

27102-da849124f21544f3a672865618b23f02

All the items cost Php150 each only. That’s very cheap right? I actually like the pink blazer! To purchase, go to www.customaid.org/products.

I am not paid to do this. It’s just that a lot of us are blessed with a good life and helping the less privileged can be a good way to share our blessings. Joanna Ladrido, one of the country’s first and most influential fashion blogger, supports CustomAid.

By shopping at CustomAid, you will not only look good, but you will also help out and do good. 🙂

Electric Dreams

A dream. It’s what fuels us to continuously live. I think, it would be the saddest thing if a person doesn’t dream at all. I created this blog because I knew this would be my gateway to fashion. When things didn’t go well as I had expected, I sank into depression and stopped blogging for a while. But then Chad encouraged me to keep on going, he knows how much I love fashion and that I would keep on doing it–blogging and sharing ideas–anyway. And he was right. When we dream, and we’re passionate about that dream, nothing can stop us from reaching it. This blog has been around for three years, and I don’t see any sign of stopping.

54250029

I guess some people noticed us, and how much work we put in our craft, that Ateneo de Naga University, our alma mater, invited us to talk about what we do on February 28’s Alternative Class Program. I talked about blogging, while Chad shared about photography. The experience was overwhelming and humbling at the same time. We’re quite aware we’re  not popular, but we do know we’re passionate about what we do, and that alone, I believe, makes us worthy of being speakers.

54250030

While a few students did not get the purpose of sending unpopular people to speak to them (which saddens me a bit quite honestly), a handful in my class told me how inspired they were upon hearing my lecture and personal struggles. What I appreciated most were their sincere questions, because that could have meant they related to me. And therefore my purpose was accomplished.

54250033

After my talk, we took pictures of Jamie and Danica, who have been both very helpful to me. Jamie Lou Borile is a quirky girl who currently administers the Bicol Fashion Bloggers group. She accepted my application to join the group late last year upon finding out that Bicol has finally began to form fashion-loving circles. Danica Salazar, on the other hand, was the topic head assigned to me. She was very kind and was very attentive to my needs; without her and her partner Alecxa, I wouldn’t have survived the day. I can totally see a bit of myself in Danica, as she was very enthusiastic and interested in learning more  about blogging. 🙂

54250036

Prior to the big day, Chad and I decided to visit the places we used to hang out in. We finally got to eat Cha Cely’s kinalas in Barlin after so many years. We visited Plaza Quince Martires, Chad’s place of solace when he was young. I like going to places Chad spent time in and having my photo taken there. We’ve been apart for way too long, I want to remember him in every way possible.

54250034

I forgot to bring a lot of my stuff with me so I had to borrow some of my sister’s things. This dress was a gift from me (lol) last year after winning Nivea’s Face Affair. This bag is hers as well. Now I miss my sister.

54250035

Forever 21 dress | Marikina-made wedges | Bag from Marinduque

Here’s a video Chad made about three years ago, which uses Lali Puna’s version of Phil Oakey’s Together in Electric Dreams–which also happened to be Ateneo de Naga University’s Alternative Class Program theme this semester. The sky and stars are a few of our favorite things, they remind us of our dreams and the infinite possibilities of life. I hope you’ll like it!

P.S. Thanks to Roe Ondis and the rest of the AdNU Supreme Student Government for having us! 🙂

New Glorietta Vibe Experience

As you know, I walked last week, November 29, for Plains & Prints during the New Glorietta Vibe event. I’m a very small girl, I admit, but it has never discouraged me from attaining a dream meant for statuesque ladies alone. Like I’ve said a million times in this blog, fashion is for everyone. And I’ve always held that belief.

I know when I came to the place for the rehearsals, I’d be seeing real models and that thought excited me rather than intimidated me. I was hoping to see my favorite Filipina models Ria Bolivar, Pauline Prieto, and Jasmine Maierhofer. And I did, actually I waved at Ria Bolivar like an excited kid. I was too shy to say hi to Pauline and Jasmine, but seeing them waiting for their turn to walk the runway just beside us was enough for me. Maybe next time. Onto the show…

I met Twinie (left) and Princess (right) during the fitting and we hit it off immediately. I’d say we were almost inseparable during the event proper. Here we are smiling for Princess‘ camera while waiting for our runway ID’s.

And I met my fellow bloggers outside our holding area. Meet Kaze, Jilliane, Are, and Matt. Thanks, Matt for the photo!

After 4 hours of waiting, we finally got our ID’s and fell in line, waiting for our turn. Meet my fellow Plains & Prints models. Thanks, KC, the girl in black skirt, for letting me grab this photo. 😀

Unfortunately, it never crossed my mind to take photos, I swear. That’s what insomnia can do to you. Haha. So I am yet to find (or receive) a clear shot of me walking the runway, but here’s a screen-grab I managed to snip while watching the video (below).

Yes, that’s me. I have poor screen-grabbing skills so don’t hate. LOL.

And of course, mandatory picture after the show at the Plains & Prints shop. Below is a video of us by Rafi Quisumbing. You can find me at the 19:44 mark, that is if you wanna see me. Haha.

Indeed, 2012 has been very good to me. I made it to magazines, a billboard, and this. Above all, I met new people and great friends. Special thanks goes to the boyfriend for being simply awesome, and to the people who voted for me during the selection process—without you guys, I wouldn’t be in the event.

***

Do not forget to join my two ongoing blog giveaways! Part 3 is now live and Part 4 will be posted soon so stay tuned for that as well! 😀

Good Friday

I know, I haven’t posted anything for almost a week and for that I apologize. The past week was so stressful I decided to take a small break, but that doesn’t matter anymore because I’m back. And I’m back with a bang!

I’ve always believed that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been through many hardships and emotional blows, but they’ve never tainted my outlook on life and discouraged me in pursuing my goals. They’re like accessoriesthey give more flavor to an outfit, and in this case, life. As Leslie Caron said, In order to have great happiness you have to have great pain and unhappiness—otherwise how would you know when you’re happy?

And speaking of happiness, yesterday was a very good day for me. I received two great newsthey’re not that huge, but again for a small town girl like me, they’re a great feat already.

1. Candy Magazine’s It Girl on the Web Style Feature

I was talking to someone online when that person told me she saw me on candymag.com’s Style Files. I was so surprised because I never thought I would get chosen for a number of reasons. One, Candy Magazine is a pre-teen/teen magazine and I’m already way beyond my teenage years. Two, I am not as adventurous as other fashion bloggers. I’m a dress/t-shirt and jeans (or shorts) kind of girl and I find it impractical wearing clothes I am not comfortable in. But hey, I got picked and I couldn’t be happier. Yeahboy, that’s one tick off my checklistEarlier this year I saw myself on Chalk Magazine and on a Dove billboard.

Oh hello there, Harry Styles! 😛

I see syntax errors. Lol, sorry about that. I was in a hurry answering the questions.

Click HERE to read the whole feature. Below are some lovely comments I’ve received from people. I’m so touched. Thanks, guys! 🙂

2. New Glorietta Vibe Modelling Opportunity

I only stand 5 feet but I never saw it as a hindrance to modelling, but I also do not deny the fact that tall girls look great, if not better, on the runway. I’ve always believed, however, that there’s room for everyone in the fashion industry. Case in point, Glorietta, one of the country’s premier shopping destination, in cooperation with AVA Philippines, is currently looking for models of all shapes and sizes who will walk the runway in an attempt to break the current Guinness record for most people on the runway, which is held by New York EXPRESS I think.

Seeing this as a great opportunity, I joined yesterday.

And before the day ended, I bagged the 3rd spot! Yay!

Thanks to everyone who supported and voted for me. I really appreciate it a lot. I couldn’t have made it without all your help yesterday.

See me walk the runway on November 29, 2012 via live-stream! Tweet me @dafnyduck with the hashtag #NewGloriettaVibe as well!

Again, thanks to everyone, especially to those who shared and retweeted the link to my photo. I love you all! xx

PFW SS2013: L’Oreal Paris PH Presents Albert Andrada and Ezra Santos

I was invited by L’Oreal Philippines to attend their fashion show featuring Albert Andrada and Ezra Santos. It was quite timely as I just had my hair fixed. My initial peg was Kimbra but I wanted to be bolder this time so I opted for a Sara Barthel-esque hair cut. You should definitely check her band Phantogram out! Aside from their good sound, Sara Barthel is extremely gorgeous!

Anyway, on to the show..

People taking their seats. The whole placed was packed with fashion editors, media personalities, socialites, and fashion enthusiasts like me.

The first designer to take the stage was Albert Andrada. His collection showed different designs using pastel colors and chiffon and lace textiles.

His dresses have really flattering silhouettes. I especially loved this dress modeled by Charo Ronquillo, a Filipino model who is now taking New York by storm. Look at those details at the back of the dress! So lovely 🙂

The next person to showcase his work is Ezra Santos—a very influential designer in Middle East. In contrast to Andrada’s collection, Santos’ work was more structured.

According to reports, his collection was inspired by Barcelona’s sunset, which explains why most of the pieces were in gold, but was intensified by the dramatic details and sculptural shoulders and collars.

Ezra Santos’ collection finale. This wowed everyone.

Below is a video of the final walk for both designers. Hmm, the vid was clearer while I was editing it, I wonder why it turned out like this. Oh well, no biggie. Philippine Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2013 is almost over. I hope you got to see at least one show!

Let us continue to promote Filipino vision and artistry! Thank you for the opportunity L’Oreal! 🙂

Gear4 Media Launch

Last week, I and the boyfriend went to Taguig to attend the Gear4 media launch.

Gear4 is owned and managed by Disruptive Limited, Inc., a UK-based company established in 2004. Disruptive Limited, Inc. was one of the first to launch a dedicated brand of iPod accessories, and Gear4 is currently the leading provider of both the docking audio and MP3s in Europe.

Below are just some of the many gadgets Gear4 provides the tech-savvy market.

Gear4 has partnered with the country’s leading distributor of IT consumer electronics, Iontech, Inc., to introduce their line of speakers and accessories. Now the Pinoys will finally get to experience these amazing products. Cool, huh?

Paragon

So here’s what I wore during the MANGO Touch and H.E. by MANGO store launch. The launch was in Makati, which is pretty far from where I live, so I opted for pieces that are both chic and comfortable.

Speaking of chic, I think there’s nothing more chic than this sweater from Kashieca. I love the pearl accents so much, hence the post title ‘Paragon’—which is a name for a big pearl. When I bought this sweater, I knew this would go well with my soft tulle skirt that has pearl accents as well.

If some people are doing their versions of the print-on-print trend, I’m creating my own—pearl-on-pearl. Lol

Of course, one can’t go to a MANGO event without wearing (or bringing) anything MANGO.

Excuse my awful hair. Fear not, I’m having it fixed next week. Haha

My favorite pair of heeled booties. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again—these are so comfortable despite the heel and platform height, I swear! I can actually run around in these.

Wore a headband to attain the collegiate/Blair Waldorf-esque look that I was going for. Have you seen the final season premiere of Gossip Girl? I missed Blair and Chuck so much. Dan Humphrey, as always, you’re a douche.

Kashieca sweater| Skirt from bazaar| Liz Claiborne watch| MANGO purse| Forever 21 heels

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia!

Thanks, MANGO for these wonderful items!

And to the boyfriend for being such a good sport. This was actually the first fashion event he attended. Hooray!

Don’t forget to join my Beach Bunny Blog Giveaway, which will end on Monday!

MANGO Touch and HE by MANGO Launch

Hi, Pauline Prieto *fangirl moment*

Too much glitters! I spazzed when I saw these! 😀

Yay booties! My fave 🙂

Outfit#2 for the gorgeous Maggie Wilson

Saw these guys inside the H.E. by MANGO store, waiting for their turn to walk the runway, so I asked for a photo. And they happily obliged. Model na model kahit photo op lang! Lol 😉 More photos after the jump!

Wrangler Fall/Winter Collection Launch

Wrangler is one of the biggest denim brands with hundred years of denim heritage. Founded in 1904, Wrangler was originally named Blue Bell, and rooted as a work wear company specializing in Overalls. In 1947, the name Wrangler was born, which means “working cowboy”. Since then, Wrangler has delivered denim innovation and authentic craftsmanship, and stayed true to its devotion to denim history.

Wrangler is known for its trademark design called the 7 Icons, which speaks of impeccable form and function. I’m not really particular with pants, most especially the designs, but looking at Wrangler’s presentation below, you would actually see how much thought was poured in creating a pair of jeans that are both stylish and functional.

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to be invited to Wrangler’s Fall/Winter Collection Launch at Robinsons Manila. The event was hosted by the bubbly Kim Jones (below). I love her shoes.

The fall/winter collection is a story of two people who travel and explore places, inspired by the thrill of discovery. Every destination is represented in Wrangler clothing pieces–colorful tops are inspired by the sunrise, which signals the beginning of the journey.

The above photos are just a few of the pieces you’ll be seeing in Wrangler stores, but let me show you more through this short clip I made. The video contains some footage and photos from the fashion show.

I also managed to take some photos of the denim bar:

But what I loved the most are the displays! I’m in love with photos like the ones below. I love traveling as well, it does good things to the soul.

I wish Wrangler would also sell these luggages! Haha. I wanted to nick them and take them home. Thank god I was able to restrain myself. Haha.

And those are just some of the good things you can expect from your favorite Wrangler branch. But of course, I need to thank Melai of Style and Soul for inviting me. It’s been a while since my last fashion show so I’m extremely grateful. I had a great time. Thanks, Melai!

Meet Jay and Sophia. Yay for new friends!

I’m leaving you with this awesome ad by Wrangler. It makes me want to hop on a car (though I can’t drive haha) and go somewhere.  It’s nice to be spontaneous sometimes.

ZALORA Official Launch (Photos)

On May 9, ZALORA invited the metro’s fashion-savvy bloggers and personalities to their official launch, and I was lucky enough to be invited thru Nuffnang. The beautiful Sara Meier was the night’s host. One rare thing about the launch is that ZALORA used a different kind of product presentation. Instead of walking the runway, the models who were wearing white garments just stood at the stage while the designs are projected onto their bodies. So techie. 😛

If you haven’t heard about ZALORA, below is a description of what they provide:

Zalora.com.ph aims to bring you womens shoes, mens footwear and a large variety of clothes from a huge range of well known and emerging hot brands with ease, simplicity, fast home delivery and an amazing customer support experience. You can quickly peruse our well known brands such as Folded & Hung, Crocs, Cole Vintage, DC, Dolce & Gabanna, Europak, Gucci, Holster, Jansport, Kipling and Bayo. Whether you are a daring fashionista, a conservative dresser or looking for sports workout gear, you can shop online. We ensure you’ll always discover fashion that compliments your style and needs perfectly. With free shipping right to your doorstep, why bother attempting those EDSA traffic jams or the MRT crunch to get to those crowded shopping malls?

Coming up: What I wore for this event 🙂 Ciao!

Have a TOMATO Summer!

Now who is in summer mode? Tomato is!

One thing I love about this year’s trend is the comeback of the  1960s fashion–polka dots and vibrant colors ahoy.

Now Tomato has infused all those in their summer collection! Just look at these pieces!

What I love about them is that the pieces, the top especially, just show the right amount of skin–not too itsy bitsy *cue Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini song*–but still great for a beach trip. I’m definitely gonna grab one. Hee~

Tomato says:

CLASSIC CAN BE SEXY IN TOMATO’S 2012 SUMMER COLLECTION

Tomato Summer has the vibe of retro 60’s goldern age with a modern sexy twist of the 2000!  The country’s premier stylists Pam Quinones and Rey Ilagan teamed up with in demand Make-up and Hair stylists Robi Pinera and Raymond Santiago in this Modern Classic Marc Nicdao photoshoot that gives you the Elegance and sexy vibe of the 60’s with a very fresh, young and modern twist.

Tomato channeled the legendary sex appeal of  Brigitte Bardo with a hint of that Cindy Crawford style.  It’s Hollywood royalty meets Fashion Icon!  Big hair and pop of colors in swimsuits and summer wear in muted and high contrast shades of green, tangerine, earth tone shades of browns and blues dominate the 2012 Tomato’s Summer Collection .  High waist cut swimsuits with sexy peek a boo details will make every woman feel like a siren while leaving the men gasping for more.  Summer beads in various colorful shades of yellow, orange, teal, green etc. are perfect accessories for the day on the beach.

So if that isn’t enough to convince you to hit TOMATO stores right now, maybe this would:

84th Annual Academy Awards Best Dressed List

One of the most anticipated parts of the Awards season is the red carpet parade, where viewers get to see fashion hits and misses by Hollywood celebrities. When I started this blog, giving my top red carpet picks (in the Golden Globes and Oscars events specifically) became sort of a vow. And now, here I am presenting you my top choices despite my very tight schedule. (I’m sorry if I’ve been MIA for the past weeks, work and school stuff are taking way too much of my time at the moment.) Below are my top 5 in ascending order.

My fifth choice would be this spectacular Alexander McQueen gown worn by Jessica Chastain who’s a Best Suporting Actress nominee for her role in The Help. What I particularly love about this dress are the intricate gold details. It somewhat reminds me of autumn, which kind of gives off a somber vibe.

Delicate, soft garments attract me so much. I am in love with this Givenchy Couture gown donned by Rooney Mara, who definitely made her mark in Hollywood for her performance in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I’m still yet to watch the film (bummer, I know) but basing on the trailer, Mara absolutely deserves to be nominated as Best Actress for her role. Talk about how drastic the changes were in her appearance (I digress). Now her dress would have been impeccable, I think, if it fit well on the waist part.

Oh yes, the top trending topic on Twitter—Angie’s right leg. I’m pretty sure she did that for comedic purposes, posing like that on every picture, even onstage. But then again, minus the leg-baring stunt she pulled, she must be credited for choosing a velvet-y Atelier Versace gown. Scene stealer, I must say—the dress complemented her glowing skin.

Kristen Wiig’s look wasn’t everyone’s favorite, but it’s my top 2 choice. I love nude. It’s refreshing to the eyes, plus it complements almost everyone’s skin. Although, I think, Wiig of the Bridesmaids would have looked more sophisticated with this J. Mendel gown if she pulled her hair up, like a bun or something.

And my top look for the Oscars would be this Maria Lucia Hoha chiffon dress worn by Maria Menounos, a host of Access Hollywood. I told you I’m a sucker for soft thingies! 🙂 Menounos has such a great body, this dress suited her really well.

So those are my top picks. I don’t usually include men as I don’t know any thing about their fashion. Come back next year to see my top red carpet picks! 🙂

2012 Golden Globe Awards Best Dressed List

Indeed, time flies so fast. It was only last year since I started this blog and vowed to give you guys an update of the Golden Globe Awards. And now, the 2012 Golden Globe Awards has concluded and the winners have been revealed. Check out the list of winners at the bottom of this post.

On to my main subject—the Best Dressed list. I only picked out my top 5 choices though, as there were only a few good ones to choose from. It puzzles me how some Hollywood celebrities make awful choices when it comes to their wardrobe. I mean, hey, they are like the highest paid celebrities in the world and they can’t hire a decent stylist? Not that I’m a good dresser myself, but you understand what I mean, right?

The fifth spot would go to Kate Beckinsale. She chose a Roberto Cavalli gown and matched her look with diamond bracelets and earrings.

My fourth choice would be this Basil Soda dress worn by E! personality and Fashion Police panelist Giuliana Rancic. I’m digging the torso details, which give a conservative yet sophisticated vibe.

This is my third. Oh viva Versace! Haha. Aside from Nicole Kidman looking sexxxay in this dress, I also love how the torso details were constructed. It looks so structured, prolly because of the diagonal bodice cuts you see. I’m not sure though about the gold detailing/studs(?)—they look a bit over-the-top to me, which could be the reason why she kept her accessories minimal. Balance is key.

Second, one perfect example of a celebrity who always gets it right is Angelina Jolie. If you watched last year’s GGAs, then you could recall her looking so stunning in a sparkly green dress. This look of hers is no different. She was jaw-dropping in this year’s Golden Globes, thanks to this Atelier Versace gown. I’m not really a fan of satin or any glossy fabric, but the pop of red won me over.

And my top best dressed gal is no other than my forever girl crush Charlize Theron, who graced the red carpet in Dior Haute Couture gown and vintage Cartier jewels. The way her hair was styled is impeccable. Truly, she looked like a real Grecian or Greek goddess, if I may say.

So there are my best dressed ladies. But I think though there’s one girl who deserves a special mention. I’ve never really seen her as a fashion icon, but her look at last night’s GGAs is refreshing:

Yep, it’s indeed Zooey Deschanel! I loved how she showed her quirky and unique sense of style. This Prada dress complete with black and green embellishments stayed true to her personality.

One Hyundai Club: Life in Style Bloggers Lunch

Last Saturday, I was invited by Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the third leading car distributor in the country, to attend their bloggers lunch at Hotel Celeste in Makati. At first, I was skeptical of attending because I couldn’t find any reason why an automobile company would invite a personal style blogger. As it turned out, HARI will be holding an awesome event for everyone! Click here to know more about the event.

Fourth person to arrive. HAHA!

With the other invited bloggers. Florals galore! I really had a fun time with these people. It’s always nice to meet other bloggers. 🙂

With everydaydoll.com and pinoyrunner.com

Han of everydaydoll.com and I wore matching outfits that day–floral dress+blazer 🙂

Blazer from Bossini | Dress from Cocco | Nude heels from Mario d Boro

I wanted to look simple so I decided not to pile on some accessories. I’m usually like this when I’m off to places I’ve never been to. I’d rather walk than take a cab, and lots of accessories only make me irritable especially when I couldn’t find the building I’m searching for. Hehe. I’m moody like that 😛

P.S.

Thanks, Kraiganne and Precious of HARI for the photos! 🙂

One Hyundai Club: Life in Style

Before I started working, I made a list of things I want to acquire in 10 years–a decent SLR and laptop, tons of shoes, piles of make up, my own a house and lot… you know, the typical ones. I also dream of having a car and I’m pretty sure you also have that somewhere in your list. I mean, who doesn’t want want a car?

But of course, we don’t want just a typical, easy-on-the-pocket set of wheels. A conscious buyer would always research first and weigh his options.

One of the fastest-growing automobile distributors here in the Philippines is Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI). From the four dealers HARI started with in 2001, it has expanded its dealership network by appointing 32 more all over the country. To date, HARI has 36 dealers nationwide which help them reach out to more consumers and maintain the honor of being the third best automobile distributor in the country. After almost a decade of carving milestones, HARI launched its One Hyundai Club (OHC), an exclusive club specially established for Hyundai car owners, in December 2010. Next month, OHC is going to celebrate its first year anniversary, and in appreciation of the OHC members’ support, HARI invites all the OHC members, Hyundai automobile owners, and guests (READ: guests!) to a whole day of premium lifestyle experiences on January 14, 2012.

Dubbed as One Hyundai Club: Life in Style, the event will launch the One Hyundai Club Life in Style 2012 Journal, which will contain a preview of the 2012 activities and promos lined up for OHC members. Seeing the line up of activities HARI has in store made me excited for the loyal Hyundai owners (kahit hindi naman ako kasali. epal lang. haha.)!

In the event, guests will get to participate in various activities, such as wardrobe consultation for men and women, makeover session, skin consultation, fashion show, cooking demos, wall climbing, arcade games, and many more—all in one day! Aside from that, there will be hourly raffle draws and grand prizes for OHC club members! How awesome is that. HARI truly knows how to value their customers. 🙂

Admission is FREE but you have to register by logging in at http://ohclifeinstyle.com.ph. When you’re registered, the OHC Life in Style team will send you a printable event pass.

However, the registration application in the OHC microsite is still in the works, so in the meantime, like their Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/onehyundaiclublifeinstyle to get updates regarding the event.

VANS x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

Last week, Connect Agency provided me passes to VANS’ fashion show. I was quite surprised that a brand like VANS will participate in an event such as PFW, blame it on my ignorance. I figured later on that despite its popularity with extreme/action sports, VANS is still categorized under ready-to-wear. Though it is associated with active lifestyle, this does not necessarily mean that brands like VANS cannot be runway worthy. The photos below are proof.

During the penultimate day of the Philippine Fashion Week, VANS Philippines showcased its OTW (Off The Wall) collection.

What I love about the show production is that it stayed true to VANS’ character. The runway was a skate ramp and there were actual skaters and BMX riders displaying crazy stunts! How awesome is that.

Now on to the collection. Below are some photos I was able to shoot. Get ready for some color feast. Hehe. I was on front seat yo! 🙂

VANS Girls

Brent Javier!!! *faints*

I want Dianna Menezes’ abs!

Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero, the host of the night, with their adorable kid, Hunter

And who could best represent VANS? Jhong Hilario. Just look at those moves!

VANS is all about checks and solid colors this season, which are perfect not just for the summer but for the whole year! One awesome thing with apparels like VANS is that anyone can use them at any season. Talk about convenience.

And speaking of convenience, look at what VANS treated us with. Thank you, VANS!

Oxygen x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

I was one of the 50 (55?) bloggers invited by Oxygen to witness their spring/summer 2012 collection. Upon entering the hall, I was amazed at how organized everything was. There is a seat for everyone! Yay!

However, since I was late, I had to situate myself in the farthest corner. It was alright though; people were on their seats so I was still able to take some photos.

Oxygen’s spring/summer collection featured androgynous cuts, lots of blue and green hues, and graphic tees using Marcela Gutierrez’s artwork. I’ve noticed that artworks are becoming a fashion fad.

This one-piece I like!

IMHO, Pauline Prieto, one of my favorite local models, best carries the androgynous look but still manages to look classy.

Danica Magpantay, 2010’s Ford Supermodel of the World, begins and closes the show. She looks way younger in person.

Very wearable! This is one of the reasons why I adore Oxygen. I am a sucker for anything that’s edgy, trendy, but at the same time, wearable. Oxygen gives me all.

Since Oxygen is all about edge, I decided to wear the following for the show:

Top from Oxygen | Ripped leggings from Cocco | Heels from Tiffany

Scarf from Shopaholic at SM Department Store | Gold flower ring from Zeros and Fives | Connector ring from Stylebreak

GUESS x Philippine Fashion Week S/S 2012

I was fortunate enough to receive an invite for Guess’ fashion show. This month’s fashion week is actually featuring all the spring/summer collections, but since it’s Guess’ first time to join PFW, they also included their fall/winter collections.

My camera was a total failure during the show, so I was only able to take a few passable photos for blogging.

A number of celebrity endorsers walked the runway for Guess. Wasn’t able to take photos of them though. Sad 😐 I just hoped EVERYONE was seated throughout the event. But no :s However, I was able to shoot a short video, which I will upload in this post in a bit.

After the event, I had the opportunity of taking a picture with my favorite veejay Sanya Smith, who was the dj of the show (IKR, siya na talaga!). She’s incredibly tall and nice, while I, once again, looked like a hobbit.

Thanks, Katt, for the photo! 😀

And yep, you GUESSED it right! An event like this should not end without taking photos at the photo booth.

Katt, the kaladkarin. She has always been supportive of my fashion endeavors. Thanks, bakla! 🙂

And now on to what I wore to the event:

Thank you, Cocco, for the the lovely dress and biker jacket! Love love!

Cross necklace and red suede heels from St. Francis Square | Connector ring from Stylebreak

Thank you, GUESS, for these freebies and Ed Lorenzo of  Connect Agencie for the invite!

See you, guys, on Friday for OXYGEN’s fashion show at SMX, MOA. 🙂

Styling Your Basic Tee

One of the rules fashionphiles live by is to have the basics–that is, a basic v-neck tee, an LBD, a pair of heels, among others. When you got them, the only things you will need next are creativity and boldness. I used to be the t-shirt-and-jeans kind of girl; I was too scared of trying out new things and experimenting because the last thing I wanted was to solicit stares from people. But I eventually got over it, prolly because I want to be different.  With my petite figure, it’s very difficult to stand out from a crowd, so the only way to be noticed (papansin lang. haha!) is to be slightly deviant. However, I still make sure that I don’t go overboard. That’s when a mixing of the basics and a few statement pieces come into play. With this post, my basic apparel is a basic tee and I’m gonna show you the stuff I styled it with to make it less basic but, at the same time, look effortless.

Was going out to get my Philippine Fashion Week invites in Makati when Dodon and I thought of shooting outfit photos

Basic v-neck shirt from Folded and Hung | Printed skirt from NY Square at SM Department Store

STEP 1: Decide which basic piece to use. In my case, since I was commuting I decided to wear something I can easily move in, like this basic blue tee from Folded and Hung. F&H has the most comfortable but stylish shirts, I must say.

STEP 2: Pair it with a skirt (or your favorite jeans). You can go plain or be more adventurous by choosing printed ones. In this photo, since I’m already wearing a plain-colored top, I decided to break the monotony by going for an animal print skirt. Unfortunately, I’m not anymore a big fan of jeans as I have not found yet the perfect ones. Would you believe I only own a couple of pairs? *crickets crickets*

OPTIONAL: Add a little twist by using a floral printed belt. Print on print!

Fringe necklace from Antler | Bracelets from Landmark

STEP 3: Pile on statement pieces, such as the fringe necklace, to add more edge to your simple look. What are statement pieces? For me, these are accessories that a person never wears on a daily basis. Oftentimes, they come in funky shapes and from odd materials.

Connector ring from Stylebreak | Winged heart and purple bell ring from Zeros and Fives | Feather earrings from St. Francis Square

STEP 4: Last but not the least, wear heels. Heeled shoes or slip-ons always make a look less casual (well, that is if you’re going for a more feminine look). Since I am short, heels always help me look taller, longer, and more sophisticated. Not that I’m saying short girls aren’t sophisticated! I mean, short girls, and even boys, are often labeled as ‘cute.’ No one would like to be stuck in that category! 🙂

Heels from Tiffany (these are obviously my favorite!)

Hype this look on lookbook and chictopia

So there you go, you can always look fabulous even if you’re just wearing a t-shirt. All you need is some accessories to spice up your look. The same thing also applies when you’re wearing old or thrifted clothes from bargain shops and ukay-ukay. Styling can make any clothing look expensive if you know what to do or if you are willing to take a risk.

A few years back connector rings or fringe necklaces were nowhere to be found. The first time I saw them I thought they were weird-looking, but eventually when you develop an eye for things unconventional, you’ll find yourself treating these statement pieces like diamonds. They are not only eye-catchers, but also additives. 🙂

Rewind to January, I told myself in a post that I should be able to score invites for the Philippine Fashion Week. And I did! Hurray!  Thanks to Connect Agencie for these fab invites!

Goodies for the Mind x The 32nd Manila International Book Fair

One of the perks of working in a publishing company is you get to attend book fairs. Yay! I’ve always loved books since grade school (thanks to my father) to the point that I plan to build a library in my own house someday. Don’t you just love the smell and feel of book leaves–some are worn out due to over-browsing, while some are crisp and clean. And there’s nothing more beautiful than organized shelves. Oh I sound so geeky.

Anyhoo, yesterday I went to The 32nd Manila International Book Fair held at the SMX, Mall of Asia in Pasay. All the country’s publishing companies participated and you can just imagine my excitement at the sight of on-sale books and magazines! The following are the stuff I got and bought. Just sharing:

I got Discovery Channel Magazine, Newsweek, and Reader’s Digest for free yo! And yes, that is The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I have this affinity to classics so I figured it was high time to buy and catch up on my lit. And hey, I’m studying Anglo-American Literature so it’s pretty much justifiable. I don’t mind being nerdy at all though. 😛

One of the publishing companies I went straight to during the fair is dun dun dun — SUMMIT! There’s gotta be Preview magazines on sale. And lo and behold, meron! 😀 Right then and there, I grabbed three recent issues I missed buying at a very, very low price! *wide grin*~~

Nope, that is not a book or book case (if there is such a thing :P). Sorry, I couldn’t resist this adorable floral pouch/purse from EGG (Exciting Gifts + Goodies) when I passed by their store at the main mall. I think I’m gonna go back, they have the cutest design. Some are quite pricey but we’ll see. I’ll let you guys know. 🙂

Well that’s it for tonight. Happy fiesta to Naga! Viva la Virgen!

MANGO F/W 2011 Fashion Show

Last night, I was invited by Connect Agencie to attend the MANGO Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show at Resorts World, Pasay City.

Prior to the event, I had apprehensions  about going. For one, Resorts World is miles away from Diliman. Second, I dunno how to get there. And lastly, I have no companion. I am yet to overcome my shyness in crowds (especially when surrounded by fashion people), so it’s a must that I bring one or few with me. Thankfully, Katt and Paolo were more than willing to accompany me to the event.  Thanks, guys! Hee~

Paolo, whose Eiffel tower bag amused everyone, and Katt, wearing a striped knit top from House of Cocco (have to say it. Haha)

The dress code for the event was luxe grunge. I didn’t know what luxe grunge is until two days ago. When I first read the invitation, I thought it was luke grunge and tried googling it and nothing came up. I tried deciphering the low-resolution invi and found out that it’s actually ‘luxe’ not ‘luke.’ Kalurkey. Haha. Below is the peg I used and my modified take on it:

Hello me! Sheer top from House of Cocco| Blue bandeau underneath| Cross necklace| Rayon knit skirt from Forever 21| Gladiator heels from Parisian

I didn’t wanna go all dark and too grungy so I decided to don a cream sheer top from House of Cocco  and gold wallet from Prada , and piled on some accessories:

Now on to the fashion show. It was hosted by model and make-up artist Bianca Valerio, whose hair and style we so loved that night:

MANGO launched their Fall/ Winter Collection for 2011, which was styled by the country’s best up-and-coming stylists — Myrr Lao To, Patrick Galang, Teej Nepomuceno, Bianca Santiago-Reinoso of Maven Magazine, and Anna Canlas of Preview Magazine. In no particular order, the following were the styles that I was able to take shots of. Pardon me for the heads peeking at the sides. 🙂

Bloggers at work 🙂

I especially adore this collection.

Animal print galore

One thing I realized from the show is that all you need to look trendy are basic pieces, such as shorts and a white top, and creativity. If you look closely at the collection, most of them can be found in any store but were given more attitude and character by creative styling. With this, I take my hat off to  all the personalities who styled the models for producing a really mind-blowing show.

Speaking of mind-blowing, I was finally able to meet Camille Co of Coexist whom I interviewed last summer. She’s really nice and sweet, and incredibly tall! I swear I looked like a hobbit. Ehe~

Aside from meeting and seeing my favorite fashion bloggers and media personalities, MANGO also gave away some goodies! Yay! Who does not want a free MANGO animal print pouch and Pond’s x Nivea items?? 😀

I am one happy blogger. Hee~

And of course, we cannot leave the venue without any remembrance, celebrity style. 😛

Congratulations Connect Agencie for organizing an awesommmmme show! Thank you for making my first fashion event coverage memorable. Until the next one! 🙂

P.S.

How do you like my fresh-from-the-beach tan? 😀

Ocean Child

I grew up traveling to and fro Tinambac, a small town in Camarines Sur where my mom was born. I always made sure I visit the place at least once a week when I was in high school and college, despite it being relatively underdeveloped. I dunno, there’s just something about the place that draws me to it, or perhaps because it’s situated in a coastal area. The ocean has been my place of refuge–its beach is the only place in the world where I can just practically sit all day and never get bored; its waters calm and give me the peace of mind I lack when I’m in the city. Yes, maybe you can call me an ocean child.

Kawaii, the surfer dog, toying with my hand

We live in a world where acquisition of material things is a priority. I also used to spend lots of my time thinking how I can get this and that; I never felt contented with my life afterwards. Not feeling any contentment is very exhausting quite honestly. However, my latest travels helped me find my old self. I’m quite thankful my boyfriend loves the ocean and other simple things in life as much as I do, and I can’t be more grateful that he brought me to the beaches of Zambales and Daet.

With Ate Mocha, Daet's best wahine surfer

While we were in Zambales, it felt like as if a huge baggage was lifted off my back. I didn’t have to worry if I look ghastly or trendy. I never wore make-up throughout my stay; I traded my heels and ballet flats for sneakers, even if the former ones were the more appropriate or, shall I say, more fashown. When you’re in one with nature, everything seems and feels normal and beautiful.

With Jong. He taught Chad how to surf; now he's teaching me. 🙂

We arrived n Zambales in time for the Big Z surfing and skimboarding competition. It’s amazing how surfers are able to ride waves. Being able to float in water is pretty difficult (for me at least) already, but the participants in the competition were still able to do aerials and stunts.

Well, here’s a video of the Big Z event by Marvin Conanan if you weren’t able to come! Find me, Chad, and the rest of the Daet surf team! 🙂

Big Z – Surf, Skate and Skim from Astron on Vimeo.

P.S.

All photos were taken by Chad (except the last one) using a Canon film camera. Visit his online journals to view his work (here and here)! He might not approve of me promoting his sites (hehe); I dunno if he’s being humble  or he’s just oblivious of how good he is. 😛 I always admired his photography skills even before we started dating (we’ve known each other for almost a decade <sorry, I just felt the need to say that. HOHOHO>). He prefers film cameras more than the digital ones and I perfectly understand why. Film cameras capture the natural beauty of things. Plus, he does not have to worry about corrupted memory cards. 🙂

Who Says Cosplay Is Just for Teens?

Last week, I was invited to a uniquely themed birthday party. I was told that it would be a kiddie party generally. I know, I know– it’s a bit unlikely that I covered a seven-year-old gal’s party, but hey, not every couple organizes a cosplay-inspired birthday party! For one, it’s very timely. Otaku–a Japanese term referring to people with interests in anime, manga, and video games– are rapidly becoming prominent today, hence the frequent cosplay events we see here and there. They have also greatly influenced the present fashion; the most popular of which is the lolita fashion, albeit inspired by Victorian clothing. Secondly, I was told there will be a fashion show of the guests in costume. As soon as I heard the word ‘fashion,’ I instantly agreed. HAHAHA.

The party was held at Celebrity Sports Club in Capitol Hills. The whole party was organized (costume and set design included) by a whole team of professional theater practitioners and students from the University of the Philippines. Just look at how they transformed the place and event, and you’ll know rightaway how skillful they are. 🙂

Meet Nina, the birthday girl, in her Tinker Bell costume. Happy 7th birthday! 🙂

The doting parents in their maid and butler costumes. Cuuute! 🙂

The decorations look nice, don’t you think? Aside from the tasty food served to the guests, they also got to enjoy the following:

NAIL ART!!! I so wanted one, but I was so busy roaming around. 😛

Face and body paint. This kid is brave! 🙂

Nina’s birthday had two fashion shows–one for the kids and another for the young-at-hearts. Check out their outfits:

Isn’t she adorable? It’s not obvious in the photo but she’s wearing violet gladiator flats.

If I remember it right, this girl won the best in poses award. 🙂

The kid from The Incredibles, which I haven’t watched yet. Haha

Ninjas from the Akatsuki group in the anime series Naruto 🙂 They won the best in costume award for the boys category.

The new dynamic duo–Batman and Harry. LOL. Batman won the best in poses (boys category) by the way. 🙂

And of course, the birthday girl closes the first show.

The most interesting thing about this birthday party is that the parents actively participated in the fashion show:

The sister as Eucliwood Hellscythe.

Nina as Zelda

Adorable 🙂
