Pullover

Have you noticed that the weather’s becoming a little chilly? I can’t complain though because that only means I can finally start layering and wearing pullovers, aside from the obvious fact that Christmas is just two months away.

I mean, who doesn’t love pullovers? They’re very comfortable and easy to wear, you don’t even have to put anything over it. They always make me feel like I can lie around all day, drink hot chocolate, and maybe snuggle with my boyfriend while watching TV—except that well, my boyfriend’s no longer in the country. Him coming home to me is still so vivid, I can’t believe a year has passed since then. Oh the woes of being in a long-distance relationship, but I do not regret anything. True love should never be fazed by distance.
blog 005Another thing I love about this look is that it can also be a nice school outfit. It reminds me so much of the 80s and 90s teen flicks I used to watch when I was a kid. I think you’d agree with me that today’s teen flicks suck. Sometimes I’d wonder if the human race is slowly degenerating. Case in point, Fifty Shades of Grey is a bestseller and very popular—are you kidding me? No offense to the fans of the book but I tried reading that crap and I couldn’t even get past the first chapter. That’s how bad it is.

I believe this puzzling phenomenon has something to do with the influence of social media. Decades ago, writers, filmmakers, musicians, artists, and consumers alike used to rely on reviews to propel their projects. It’s not even the case today anymore. Even though reviews are still available, a project’s success depends on its virality and popularity on say Facebook and Twitter, which is really tragic to be honest. Sometimes I come across really good films, and it makes me sad when I research them and find that they did not even surpass their budget, while movies like Twilight earn millions of dollars in the box office despite the awful storyline. I hope we can fix this before it’s too late.

Fiigirl: Très Chic

As you know I turned 25 two months ago, and since then I’ve been thinking a lot about how difficult fashion can be sometimes. I’ve always gravitated towards pink and super girly things, which are unfortunately not always befitting older women. Worse, I have very few clothes that are appropriate for my age. A week ago I was scheduled to go to a book launch of my favorite fashion blogger, Tricia Gosingtian, and I was worried about what to wear to the event. Tricia has easily transitioned from being cute to sophisticated, and I wish I was that successful. I just can’t seem to let go of my affinity for anything young and girly.

Luckily, Fiigirl–an online shopping site based in China–sent me a really nice black dress, which arrived a day before the event. Talk about timing.

The transaction was actually made in August, so it took about a month for the package to arrive at my place. This was the dress I was expecting to receive, according to the website:

A2784

Product description (taken from the website):

Features:
* Sleek popular design
* High class standout quality
* Very soft and comfortable to the touch
* Material: Cotton
* Pattern: Solid pattern
* Color: Black/rosy
* Size: M, L

I picked this style because I thought it looked so chic and definitely office-appropriate. Here’s the actual dress, I got the medium-sized one:

Online shopping is quite tricky because you won’t see the item until it arrives at your doorstep. I’ve heard (and experienced) a lot of horror stories about online shopping–from clothes not looking the same as posted, too small or too big, etc. Thankfully the dress I got from Fiigirl is almost similar to the one posted on the website.

It’s not as cottony and stretchy as I hoped it would be, but that’s fine because the dress fits–although it’s a little tight around the armpits and a little loose at the shoulders. I’m not broad-shouldered so I understand that part. I just hope the sleeves were a tad shorter and the asymmetrical v-neck was more prominent like what is shown in the website. I think that’s the most interesting part of the design and the dress could have been more awesome if it was more noticeable.

Nonetheless the dress still looks chic to me. LBDs are a woman’s must-have and I’m glad I finally got one that’s appropriate for my age but still fashionable. The best part is, it looks great with any shoe color.  Zalora sent me these gorgeous heels a week ago and I’m so glad it went well with the dress. They’re very comfortable too!

I wore very minimal accessories because I wanted the dress to be the key piece of this look. Tricia took a photo of me during the launch, I just hope I didn’t look fat in it, hehe. Overall, I’m satisfied with dress. It’s pretty and very affordable so I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars.

triciaTricia + Me at her book launch. Thanks to Candy Magazine for the photo! I gave her a subtle cat ears headband which I made the night before the event. I was so happy she liked it! She’s the nicest, I swear. Be sure to check out her book, 150 STYLE ESSENTIALS FOR EVERY GIRL! #fangirling

Matrix

I promised last week that I will be showing you how my DIY faux leather crop top looks when worn, so here are some pictures.

IMG_3086

This whole look reminded me of the movie The Matrix, what with the leather and the shades I’m sporting. I had to tuck the top in though because the skater skirt is too high-waisted, but I think it worked well.

IMG_3091The back is my favorite part of the design because it’s sexy without being overboard. I intentionally made the front part look modest to offer balance, and to provide a bit of mystery *wink*.

Is it obvious that I’m having too much fun creating my own clothes? I don’t think I’d be stopping soon, so you’ll definitely see lots of DIYs in the coming months.

IMG_3092

I know I’ve shown you how I make my skater skirts, but I have a soft spot for polka dots; I had to buy this skirt immediately when I saw it online. It’s very affordable too and very well-made. It makes me glad knowing that there are still online shops that offer great stuff at a very affordable price.

Take for example these pair of high-heeled shoes I bought last year from Zalora. Normally shoes don’t last me a year but these babies are still good as new, which is amazing because I’ve used them countless times already. Woot! I was actually quite hesitant to purchase from them at first because I’ve had horrible experiences with several OL shops in the past; however, Zalora proved to be different. I remember receiving my order the next day in a carefully wrapped box and having no trouble with my credit card payment.

Christmas is just around the corner and I usually make a mental list of trustworthy stores where I can shop for presents. Christmas… How time flies! Last year I was spending every waking moment with my significant other and now we’re spending the holidays apart again. I feel more secured now with our relationship though, we’ve been through tough times and those only made our relationship stronger than ever.

A lot of people do not believe in long-distance relationships. It’s difficult, I agree–but with the right mindset coupled with commitment and communication, it won’t be as hard.
