Archives for December 2012

Profound Escape

Hello everyone! Below are some of the photos which made it to Madhouse Manila magazine’s vintage December issue. I styled 3 layouts, inspired by the medieval peasant life with hints of modern trends, of course. I teamed up with Chad (the photographer), Hennie Fortuin (the model), and Ms. Elle Lubigan (the hair and make-up artist). Chad used his Canon ae-1 film camera with a Kodak ColorPlus film.

Supposedly, the first layout is about a farmer’s daughter who is young, playful, and carefree—hence the flowers, braids, and lace—but we kind of forgot about that so we ended up with these shots. I like the first photo because it reminds me of a child who is hopeful of the future, plus the light on Hennie’s face is just gorgeous.

The second set represents the transition of the peasant’s child from innocence to maturity, that stage where children are introduced by their parents or by circumstance to the realities of life. So, I chose a a dark and checkered ensemble with a lace collar to add youth. Browns and maroons always remind me of farms.

The last, but certainly not the least, set is my absolute favorite—not just because the Anne Boleyn hairdo suited the model nicely, but also because all the elements meshed together. I only came up with this look during the last minute, as I wasn’t quite sure if the heavy skirt will complement the printed top. And it did! The Scandinavian cross matched the top too! It was actually Chad’s idea to buy and use the cross. I love the fact that he knows a lot about history and whatnot. 😛

This set represents a full-grown woman, who has been forced by unfortunate events to take care of her family. Innocence is now lost. However, I don’t really consider this as a sad ending to such a story. I’d like to call it ‘bravery’, instead. I deeply admire people who are driven, tough, and mature. A lot of us today do not like taking responsibilities, and people who do deserve so much respect.

So there you go. We really hope you liked the sets. Please check out Madhouse MNL, and you can find us on pages 137 to 149. Special thanks to ForMe clothing for providing the floral jacket and printed long-sleeves.

Also, I told you last week that Chad and I went to this Vinyl Dump store in Cubao Expo to interview Joel Devicais, the owner. Chad wrote an article about it and took photos too. Read about it on pages 108 to 111.

And apparently, Madhouse MNL decided to include the Feral Child pictures which I previously shared here. You can also see them in pages 128 to 135.

Thanks to everyone who supported us! Watch out for another Chad & Daphne collaboration! 😛

Chad and I had the busiest week of our lives. On Tuesday, immediately after work, we zoomed to this vintage store called Vinyl Dump in Cubao Expo to interview the owner regarding his collection of vinyl records, so excuse me if my face isn’t made up. I’m a very busy girl—emphasis on busy.

Vinyl Dump does not only sell vinyl records. They also have vintage cameras, watches, video tapes, books, etc. It was truly heaven. If you love vintage stuff, give them a visit!

Hello, there young Kuh Ledesma. I like her outfit here—so colorful. 🙂

Now onto my outfit. There’s nothing really special about it, except that the dress was a gift by my boyfriend’s Mom. I like wearing this animal print dress because it fits my body perfectly. It’s not too tight nor loose, just enough to give my body a nice shape. Full-on animal print dresses/clothing can make or break your whole look—meaning one can possibly look either trashy or bold, depending on the fit and styling.

I didn’t want to catch too much attention at work so I did a B/W look by choosing a sequined pair of flats which I bought for P150 ($3.75) from a woman selling shoes in the streets. I’m amazed how durable these are. Normally shoes with that price tag will only last me a month, provided that they don’t get wet. I’ve been using these flats for 3 months now, and no sequin has even fallen yet! What kind of sorcery is this? LOL.

Then I chose a black belt to cinch my waist and add more shape. I also brought with me my black biker jacket because it’s so freaking cold in the office. I usually end up looking very ghost-like after a long day’s work. I’m not complaining though. I consider myself very lucky to have a job, and this job in particular. Ciao!

Grand December Giveaway Part 4 is still ongoing! 🙂

When Jong and Chad taught me how to surf last year, we found out I was goofy-footed, meaning I use my right foot in front of the left when riding a board. Quite ironic, I thought, as the word is a complete opposite of my personality, according to many.

People think of me as a very serious person, even Chad before we dated. And I guess to a certain point, I am, but I can be really goofy when I’m really comfortable with the people I’m with.

I’m not afraid to look ugly as well. Hello, gummy face! Hahaha. A friend of mine calls me gummybears because I’d smile so wide my gums would always show. LOL. I like smiling, what can I do? I think it’s pointless to smile and act happy if you’re not genuinely happy.

And speaking of happiness, I was so excited when I saw these distressed studded high-waisted shorts and spike bracelet from Boutique De Reines in the mail last week. I knew they’d be perfect for my Baler beach trip with Chad. Of course, you’ll get the first dibs—I will be posting more photos of our trip here soon. 🙂

I love high-waisted shorts because they help emphasize the curves of my body. I gained a lot of weight recently, which went straight to my derriere  and thighs. My waist remained relatively small, so I knew these shorts are perfect for my body type. 🙂

Wore the spike bracelet with it for some added zest.
