84th Annual Academy Awards Best Dressed List

One of the most anticipated parts of the Awards season is the red carpet parade, where viewers get to see fashion hits and misses by Hollywood celebrities. When I started this blog, giving my top red carpet picks (in the Golden Globes and Oscars events specifically) became sort of a vow. And now, here I am presenting you my top choices despite my very tight schedule. (I’m sorry if I’ve been MIA for the past weeks, work and school stuff are taking way too much of my time at the moment.) Below are my top 5 in ascending order.

My fifth choice would be this spectacular Alexander McQueen gown worn by Jessica Chastain who’s a Best Suporting Actress nominee for her role in The Help. What I particularly love about this dress are the intricate gold details. It somewhat reminds me of autumn, which kind of gives off a somber vibe.

Delicate, soft garments attract me so much. I am in love with this Givenchy Couture gown donned by Rooney Mara, who definitely made her mark in Hollywood for her performance in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I’m still yet to watch the film (bummer, I know) but basing on the trailer, Mara absolutely deserves to be nominated as Best Actress for her role. Talk about how drastic the changes were in her appearance (I digress). Now her dress would have been impeccable, I think, if it fit well on the waist part.

Oh yes, the top trending topic on Twitter—Angie’s right leg. I’m pretty sure she did that for comedic purposes, posing like that on every picture, even onstage. But then again, minus the leg-baring stunt she pulled, she must be credited for choosing a velvet-y Atelier Versace gown. Scene stealer, I must say—the dress complemented her glowing skin.

Kristen Wiig’s look wasn’t everyone’s favorite, but it’s my top 2 choice. I love nude. It’s refreshing to the eyes, plus it complements almost everyone’s skin. Although, I think, Wiig of the Bridesmaids would have looked more sophisticated with this J. Mendel gown if she pulled her hair up, like a bun or something.

And my top look for the Oscars would be this Maria Lucia Hoha chiffon dress worn by Maria Menounos, a host of Access Hollywood. I told you I’m a sucker for soft thingies! 🙂 Menounos has such a great body, this dress suited her really well.

So those are my top picks. I don’t usually include men as I don’t know any thing about their fashion. Come back next year to see my top red carpet picks! 🙂

How I Wear My Man’s Shirt

I’ve been wearing this shirt almost every week since I bought it last year.

One thing I love about oversized garments, in this case a shirt from Bench’s men’s department (yes, with glitters), is they are very easy to wear. I don’t have to worry about my tummy protruding whenever I overeat.

Despite this shirt being tailored for men, it does not mean one cannot make it suitable for ladies as well. This shirt could easily be mistaken for a woman’s though, perhaps due to the color and the glitters. But then again, the cut and proportions are meant for medium-built boys, so I often tuck this in or wear it with daisy dukes or skirts. Hello, Gadybee glasses and beanie!

And of course, heels always make every look more ladylike.

My new job has literally changed my sleeping habits, I was up all night yesterday. Sad to say, I have noticed my eyes are looking duller. My ultimate solution for this problem, aside from eye creams and what not, is liquid eyeliner. For some reason, it always makes the eyes look livelier. I painted the upper contours of my eyes with thick black liner and voila!—no more dead eyes. I do not like putting pencil liners on my lower lids, it makes my eyes look droopy, which is obviously not gonna help with my situation at the moment.

Grazie Mille Giveaway! :)

As you know, I recently won Nivea Philippines’s Face Affair contest. Part of my winnings, aside from a makeover shoot (that will happen really soon) and Forever 21 and Majolica Majorca goodies, are thousands of pesos worth of NIVEA products. How awesome is that?

It’s my first time having boxes (literally) of skincare products, that they would actually cover one whole year of my skincare needs. But then again, I got these items by luck and the only way to show my gratefulness for all the blessings I’m constantly receiving is to share them with family, friends, and co-workers. 🙂

I just finished making my list, and I don’t know to whom I could give these last few items:

Can you help me? 😀

NIVEA Philippines has just released some of these items. I have been using NIVEA for years and I am more than satisfied. Now one lucky reader will receive the following: 100 g  NVS Sparkling White Acne Oil Control, 125 mL NVS Sparkling White Toner, 4 pcs. of 8 mL NVS Sparkling Whitening Day Cream, and 100 g NIVEA Pearl & beauty Soap.

Also, I am giving this cute denim purse directly from my closet. Haha. I noticed I have bags that I bought but never used.

How to join? Follow these simple steps:

1. Like Zeros and Fives on Facebook.

2. Post this on your Facebook wall (make sure its public, and Zeros and Fives’ Facebook page is tagged) and tag three friends:

Ode to the 40s

One dilemma of a girl who does not have too many clothes (like me) is how to make much out of what she has. Fortunately, clothing items nowadays are quite versatile, which allow people to create multiple styles.

When I buy stuff, I would always think of at least two ways on how I can wear it. If it’s not possible, then it’s not worth the buck.

Upon seeing this striped sheer top in a bazaar three weeks ago, I immediately thought of a preppy, geek chick look.

When I was a kid, I was really fond of watching the Saved by the Bell series, and that was the first time I got  introduced to nerds and geeks. I particularly liked Mr. Screech. I’ve always thought since then that the nerds’ fashion sense are not all that bad. In this look, I recreated Mr. Screech by buttoning my top all the way to the collar and attached a floral bow from Quirkyfinds (thank you!). Collars and bowties are surefire ways to make one look instantly nerdy, but cute. Then I secured the top using a pink floral belt from Genevieve Gozum because I didn’t want the top hanging loosely on my waist.

Look 1: Ms. Smarty-pants in spring

 Look 2: Ms. Laidback Chick

The nerd look, however, does not fit well when the weather’s too hot (for obvious reasons), or you’re going to a picnic or window shopping with friends. For these occasions, you might want to ditch the bow tie. Unbutton your top all the way to your ribs, then tie both ends. Wear a fun accessory to replace the bow tie, like this Eiffel tower necklace from Ling Dacudao.

For some reason, this kind of look reminds me of the 40s (hence the title of this post), when women used to wear striped maillots or tied sleeveless tops, such as I what did above, and frolic around the neighborhood in ther lovers’ bikes. Okay, I think I watched too many war era movies. Haha.

To end this post, do not forget to hype this look on chictopia and lookbook! 🙂
